Title: I Swear To God I Had A Witty Title All Thought Up
Description: ... but I lost it.
Amadeus Faulkner - August 12, 2008 08:04 PM (GMT)
Welcome to After Graduation! Why don't you tell us a little about yourself?
I'm Steph and I'm an eighteen year old from the US with a severe literature addiction. Seriously, I read like, three thousand pages a month during the summer. I need help. Aside from that, I suppose I like a good cappuccino at eight in the evening and the occasional concert of one sort or the other. More than anything else, however, I love that firefox spellchecks all of my posts. I don't know what I'd do without it... Does anyone else find it ironic that Mozilla's spellcheck registers "firefox" as a typo? I sure do.
We love you already. <3
But what If I'd said something like "Hi, my name is Mary Sue McSparklypoo Snape-Potter-Malfoy de bloodlust and I enjoy the taste of manflesh"? :D
Now that you've told us about yourself, why don't you tell us about your character? Here's a quick summary sheet to make it easy.
Describe your character in less than a paragraph.Amadeus is an ex-auror raised in the old pureblood dynasty struggling to balance his sense of filial duty which tells him to resist change and cling to the culture his ancestors all but worshipped and his conscience, which tells him that pureblood supremacy is morally abhorrent and should be avoided at all costs. Basically, he's just me having all sorts of fun exploring the psyche of an aging man who's doing all sorts of stupid things to drive himself half insane. He's really not that dark of a character, though, as he's far to proud to openly accept pity (even if it's from himself). If anything, he's a great big ole' walking mess of irony.
What's your posting style like?In case you haven't already guessed, I suffer from severe inability to shut up, so I tend to write rather long posts. As far as actually writing style is concerned, I love me a good (bad) joke, so you'll probably read a lot of things and think to yourself "eh, that's kind of funny. moving on, then...." I'm also a real whore for ironic twists and elegant plotlines, when I can get them.
What sort of plots or roleplays are you interested in? Serious or light? Long-term or short?I enjoy a healthy balance of Serious and light roleplays. Amadeus is probably better suited to serious threads, but I'm always willing to fit him into a funnier setting and there are a few other characters I'm mulling over at the moment who are definitely built for comedy.
As for actual length of plots, I'm a bit partial to shorter plots, only because I've seen a lot of longer plots get stale faster than unwrapped saltine crackers . As long as the plot has plenty of potential, though, I'd happily go for either.
Fantastic! Now I hope you've prepared yourself. You're about to be bombarded with welcomes and thread requests from many wonderful roleplayers.
Oh goodie!
Will Channing - August 12, 2008 08:31 PM (GMT)
Hiya Steph! I'm Spiv (Madame Everard, on RPG-D) and I think it's really awesome that you've joined! I think Amadeus is going to be a great addition to the site.
Hi ho template, awayyyyy!
Lucy Ballantine, age 28, is my first, my darling, who I've been playing for years now. She is a recent newlywed, her husband being Dermot Ballantine. She is Irish and a former Free Blood revolutionary who teaches Muggle Studies at Hogwarts. She is likely the character of mine you'll have the most contact with, at least for now. Like you said, Amadeus is "torn between his heritage and his conscious", so I think it'll be interesting to see him interact with my Muggle-born Lucy.
Logan Fletcher, age 26, is an Unspeakable, one of the ones working on the fourth unforgivable. He's going to get very screwed by the whole debacle, but will come out of it alright and as a changed man. Logan's pretty hard to get along with sometimes; he's too intelligent for his own good and it makes it hard for him to interact with most people.
Edward Garrow, age 29, is the Junior Undersecretary, and the bad guy behind the fourth unforgivable. He has a massive temper, is a raging alcoholic, and is obsessed with his wayward wife, Ivy Ballantine (long story there, but it involves the Irish Blood Revolution, which ended about five years back). Despite all that, he's a charming and well-liked politician, though his exterior is starting to fray a little bit. He employs Logan Fletcher, Astrella Snipe and Calixtus Ferox to work on the fourth unforgivable and other less-than-savory endeavors.
Will Channing, age 25, is the assistant to the Head of Magical Law Enforcement. He's basically a go-to guy for the Level Two kids, since he's pretty willing to help out anyone who needs it. He's a member of an unofficial "Boy's Club" featuring Wendell Darrow (criminal), Jasper Christie (black market criminal) and Apollo Sinistra (fashion guru). He's really just a lot of fun. As the Head's assistant, he tends to show his face just about everywhere on various Level Two errands. He’s currently investigating the murder of Judy Baines with E.B. Braun.
Constance Fallon, age 24, is a no-nonsense Auror. Her world view is very black and white and she has a rude and abrasive sense of humor. Her family was murdered in her seventh year, which is why she became an Auror. She’s currently sort-of dating E.B. Braun.
Patrick Everard, age 20, is pretty ambitious, but in more of a criminal fashion, and will probably be following in the footsteps of Jasper Christie. Regardless, he's very charismatic and a lot of fun, as long as it's playtime and not business time. He has a job at Dervish and Banges but is also sort of an unofficial curse breaker for the Russian Syndicate, a crime mob operating out of Knockturn Alley. He was sort of dragged into it.
Margot Blanchard, age 18, is a Muggle with the capabilities of a medium. She is calm, intelligent, and American (three things that don't often go together); she's traveled to England to pursue a photography career and also to develop her connection to the "spirit" realm. She’s currently employed by Atlas Caedmon as Rudolph’s translator and babysitter. She'll [eventually] hook up with paranormal investigator and wizard huntress Penny White.
Agatha Jarvey, dead, is a ghost who haunts Jarvey Estate. I don't think they'll interact, unless you goes to the estate very often.

So you're the one I have to thank! I've been wondering which one of the admins that was...
Oh boy... A thread between Lucy and Am would be full of all sorts of deep-seated awkward. We'll have to try that one out somethime, and it looks like you've got a couple of other characters that Am would love to meet as well... He's got a thing for aurors. It's sort of an instant respect coupon with him, so there could be plenty of fun threads there :D
Yoshi Takenaka - August 13, 2008 06:50 AM (GMT)
Let's see... My name is Reg, I've seen you on the cbox before. *gives you brownies* I'm the unofficial, self-appointed brownie giver to the new members. The brownies with chocolate, vanilla, cinnamon, and caramel in them. {Yum!}
And here are my lovely faces:
Mackenzie Dalton: 19 year old blind dude, half-blood (three-fourths blood, technically, xD). Thief and Radio Host. Ex-Gryffindor. Basically a petty jerk. He's impatient, stubborn, snarky, smart-aleck, a liar, and quick-tempered. He is, however, very nice to people he trusts and probably will protect someone to the death if he trusts them enough (not that anyone really has that honor at the moment, but it's there to be earned). He also has a tendency to beat people over the head with his cane if they annoy him enough. Yeah, I know he's a Gryffindor, and I made him this way for a reason. He probably was taught by Amadeus at school. I'm fairly sure he took DADA OWLs and NEWTs and passed with pretty decent grades (even if he's far from the best duelist due to being blind).
Scout Vinter: 32 year old Healer at St. Mungos. Ex-Ravenclaw. He's basically one of those really genius-esque people that are on the edge of being almost crazy most of the time. He is very clumsy and stutters a bunch. He also has little to no tact or common sense. He also has a four-year-old 'daughter' named Addie (who is really his niece, but that's for later... but it's just good to know she's a muggle). He also comes off as kinda childish and innocent despite his age and intelligence... and can sometimes hurt people by accident due to his lack of tact or common sense. I know he took DADA classes - OWLs and NEWTs - but I'm not sure if your Amadeus was teaching at Hogwarts at the time. Also, considering Amadeus' slight conflict with the pureblood supremacy, Scout is a muggleborn.
Yoshi Takenaka: Three ages for this guy. He died at age 23 about 54 years ago, so some could consider him to be 77-years-old, but Yoshi just claims that he is 54-years-dead. He was homeschooled by his parents as a child and came to England when he was around 20 years old. He's very shy as well as very curious. It is not uncommon for him to ask about a billion questions of someone - it can get a bit annoying. On top of that, he is a bit of a creative storyteller, and can get rather imaginative and animated when he is telling stories. I'm not sure how they would know each other, but it might be interesting if they did run into each other.
Kelsey Andersson - August 13, 2008 09:06 AM (GMT)
Hey I'm Jemma and welcome to AG...
I only have one charrie here at the moment
Kelsey Andersson: 25, former Hufflepuff. Kelsey was born to two Muggles, Laura and Matthew Andersson. They fell in love during High School, went to the same College and fibe years after graudating the two of them got married and had two beautiful children - Matilda (Mattie for short) and Kelsey. Mattie was one year older than Kelsey and at the age of 11 Kelsey received a letter from Hogwarts inviting her to study there. Her parents were proud to have another Wizard in the family. She became a Hufflepuff like her sister. At Hogwarts Kelsey made many friends; friends who would be there for her through thick and thin and would care for her very much...as she did for them. Laura thought that both Kelsey and her sister should get a Muggle education too, so at the some time as being at Hogwarts, the two of them were being sent Muggle school. Kelsey enjoyed this a lot, after finishing at Hogwarts Kelsey went to a Muggle university and studied Muggle History. This was when everything changed, another Magical war had broken out and Kelsey and her family were in the middle of it. Matthew sadly died that same year, due to being so proud of his daughters he joined the Muggle branch Magical police. He died in Leicester Square, London. Matthew was helping the Wizards fight againest the Dark Wzards. After the war had ended, Kelsey taught at Hogwarts for a few months but she was always reminded of her father; it did not also help that she felt like he was being watched everywhere she went, she decided to apply for other teaching posts. Kelsey hopes to return to Hogwarts someday, as that was where she felt safe and working at her best. Currently Kelsey is working in the Ministry of Magic, in the Magical Accidents & Catastrophes department. she is the specialist in Muggle Items. Kelsey is smart, nice, thoughtful, patient, sensitive, and likes to joke around. But when she get’s past her pressure point, she will explodeswith anger. She's ambitious, helpful and caring with it comes to toher people. By nature, Kelsey is an academic. She loves to learn. At times, Kelsey is reminded of her past and then becomes depressed; but this does not happen as much since she worked at Beauxbatons in France for over a year. When it comes to love and romance, she falls in and out of love very quickly, at her age she should be looking for a man to settle down with...but Mr Right has not yet arrived.
Calixtus Ferox - August 14, 2008 12:12 AM (GMT)
Pas encore posted here? What a shame. Considering I fully intend to RP you until you can't walk properly. ;) Anyway... I've got a few characters, but only two I play with any confidence and regularity...
Calixtus Ferox: Near and dear to my heart, but not so near and dear to others'. He's very spiky. Very brittle and bitter. He works as a potions researcher, he's a Squib and a Pureblood--American-Italian--and a doxy powder/cocaine addict, so half the time he sounds like James Joyce on crack, only less charmingly Irish. He has trouble with basic hygiene, remembering to wear pants, etc. I'm not entirely sure how they'd interact, but anything is possible. I hate that saying. But in RP it's true.
E.B. Braun: Very serious Auror, but also a goofy, fun-loving guy--and he botches every silly little assignment he's sent on. His heart is in the right place, but he wants to kick some Dark Wizard arse, not... clean up after illegal Clabbert dealers. He's sort-of dating Constance Fallon, and rather wants to fix her--or at least stop her being sad--he hates it when people are sad, cuts into his fun... She's got a Troubled Past. The most trouble in E.B.'s past is his slightly strict Jewish upbringing, against which he's rebelling.
Augustine Askew: Former Felix Felicis addict. Creature executioner for the Ministry. Underground duelist. Pureblood enthusiast, father died in the Irish Blood Revolution, on the... most would call it the wrong side--the side of the corrupt pro-Pureblood government--anyway, he's a bit of a misguided rebel, but he tries to charm people.
Sebastian Kent: Gratuitously melancholic, some would say 'emo.' Damn and blast. He's an entitled (read: lives in his rich Muggle father's mansion) Prophet writer (business section, viz. recent article on currency inflation), and professional Byronic seducer, lately sufferer of syphilis (he got better). He likes attention, but subtly. Not sure how they'd interact, but perhaps he knew Amadeus at Hogwarts? He's only a recent grad.
Victoire Weasley - August 14, 2008 12:56 AM (GMT)
*Squees*
Another professor! I'm Mandee, by the way. ^^
I have a professor character as well, in the form of Marshall Suijen. He's 30 years old, a father of four, and is only in his first year of teaching alone after bouncing around and then 'interning' with Flitwick before Flitwick retired. Not sure how these two might get along, but know that Marshall's a bit on the crazy side. As in, hears and sees things, and his best friend in the world is imaginary. Still, he does a pretty good job of hiding his craziness now.
Victoire probably had him as a teacher, unless he just started. She graduated in 2017, so pretty recently.
Luna, I'm not sure on. I can't see the two of them having much interaction or knowing each other, unless you can think of something.
Then there's Andrea Watson. Depending on how long Mr. Amadeus here has been teaching, she might have had him as a teacher too. She's 23 years old and works for St. Mungo's as a mediwitch.
Amadeus Faulkner - August 14, 2008 01:07 AM (GMT)
Ohmigod! Brownies! *pounces* And pshh... walking is overrated.
Sooo... I desperately want to RP Amadeus meeting a former student at a pub all of a sudden. From what I'm noticing, this could be a thread for any number of characters. Heck, he could meet a whole slew of them and buy a round as a reward for either not falling flat on their faces in the real world or for responding appropriately (by showing up in a pub) if they did. Any takers? ;)
I'll bet we do something really fun with Am and E.B. Something tells me that Am would find him endearingly annoying, which is about as good as it gets for first impressions where Am is concerned. I really want to thread with Calixtus too, but I have no idea how they'd meet...
Victoire Weasley - August 14, 2008 01:12 AM (GMT)
Sure! I'm leaning toward Andrea to be in that thread since I haven't had as much of a chance to rp her compared to Victoire.
Mackenzie Dalton - August 14, 2008 01:25 AM (GMT)
Macky would be into it, probably. Plus, it sounds so hilarious... getting drunk with someone who was your teacher. Like, only a few years ago. Besides, he's a funny drunk, I think. One of those happy-hyper ones that's really sort of intrusive but nice during it. Plus, it would be funny. Because I can hold it over him that in the morning, he won't be able to really do anything because of the headache dominating his senses.
And Scout kind of can't drink due to being a good role model for his kid and all... though considering his lack of common sense and tact and all... I could see that happening.
And Yoshi... can't drink anyway.
Ron Weasley - August 14, 2008 01:35 AM (GMT)
My name on cbox is Roe and I play 2 canon characters who came out of Hogwarts in the same year and are 38 years old:
Ron Weasley .... current ..... but we don't know for how long .... the Deputy Head of the Department of La Enforcement .... Level 2 at the Ministry. Since Harry Potter's disappearance Ron hasn't been himself .... tends to be a bit emotional and impulsive ... even with his superiors. He's sometimes referred to as being "on the edge" by others. He just came back from a self-imposed leave of absence after turning down being Harry's replacement as Department Head. He really isn't fitting back in too well yet.
Neville Longbottom ... Nevv has been the Professor of Herbology at Hogwarts for 15 years, after being an Auror for 5 years. Was hero in the 2nd Wizarding wars, when Voldemort met his demise. He married the former Hannah Abbott, who is also the landlord at the Leaky Cauldron. She is expecting twins in a couple of months around Halloween. Neville is still a bit of a lost soul as he is wondering if he's done the right thing with his life.
Amadeus Faulkner - August 14, 2008 02:24 AM (GMT)
I think I'm going to start a thread in a pub somewhere and leave it open to whoever wants to luck into some free booze from an unlikely source. :D
I definitely feel as though Amadeus and Neville would get along, which I find deliciously ironic.
