History:
Jimmy was born in Shrewsbury, near Wales--a very sparsely populated town--as the fifth child of Martin and Joan Worthing. With two sisters and two brothers--the youngest three years older than he was--Jimmy was, from a young age, inculcated into a boisterous sort of life running about the countryside, or pulled along by his sisters and brothers. Tugged in about seven directions for years, he bemusedly followed along with whatever activities might be suggested, up to and including: dressing him in his sisters' clothing, dragging him behind a pony on a skateboard, and hanging him from his legs upside down out of the oak in the backyard.
The last almost led to tragedy, but--miraculously--when the knot slipped, Jimmy didn't plummet the gut-wrenching twenty feet that yawned below. Instead, he floated like thistledown. His siblings were left agape, but his mother didn't look too surprised. Instead she called Uncle Liam, who dressed rather oddly and said he was a saxophonist, and Jimmy got his first talk about Wizarding life.
It was Uncle Liam who took him to Diagon Alley to buy his supplies after he'd gotten his Hogwarts letter. His siblings got the full story, since they were old enough to be trusted with the secret. Timothy, his nearest in age, got a bit jealous, but the fact was, Jimmy was the baby of the family. It was hard to be jealous of him when he was simply so easygoing. So, while Timothy was the sportsman of the family; David the natural mechanic; Faye the smart one; and Olivia, the eldest, already in university studying veterinary medicine--he was the weird magical one.
At school, Jimmy coasted and spent most of his time cheerfully hanging out with older students, including his eventual bandmates, Kiyoshi, Dmitri, and Lydia. The older kids tended to like him; he was more mature, more mellow, than most his age, and game for anything.
Jimmy was never really good in his classes. He did fine; he worked just hard enough to get by, reasoning that his parents wouldn't really understand his grades, anyway. As looked good to them. So he coasted and spent most of his time fooling about on the magical drum-set his uncle Liam (who, it turned out, was not a saxophonist but a manufacturer of magical instruments) had bought him. Most of Hufflepuff took to groaning when he took the set out in the evenings, and Jimmy's first-mastered Charm was a selective Muffliato. It wasn't a serious passion for his first few years of adolescence. Nothing much was, though he had fun learning magic and bringing home WWW merchandise.
Later on, though, when he started to think more seriously about what he wanted to do with his life, he decided music was as good an occupation as any other. He took to jamming with Dmitri and Kiyoshi when they invited him, and really liked it. Between the odd sort of peer-pressure/hero worship (the older students were people he admired and wanted to emulate), he decided he'd follow their band as soon as he could. It took all his willpower, and his uncle's urging (his uncle knew it could be difficult to get respect as a Muggleborn, let alone as a dropout), he stayed in school until his woefully late graduation, then joined Amaterasu fulltime. As part of the band, he's the mellow, laid-back one. He's also a good drummer, particularly known for the multicolored sparks that fly off his cymbals when he hits them. He loves to just vent all his energy drumming, and is quite aware he looks ridiculous--as if he cares... after years of teasing from four siblings, not to mention his friends, Jimmy brushes off teasing with ease.
Personality:
Jimmy is easygoing. Really, that very nearly covers it. It does mean, however, that he can be a bit weak. He's prone to hero-worship--he idolizes Dmitri, in particular, and his uncle Liam. Generally speaking, he's a very nice person. If you're in a tight spot, he'll see no reason not to help, even if it means walking thirty miles in pouring rain. If someone pointed out the altruism or, hell, the discomfort involved in such behavior, he'd just shrug. It's the right thing to do. He's not outspoken about his ethics; it's simply how he is.
He's very sweet to women, perhaps a little old-fashioned in his politeness. With his male friends and Lydia he's a bit more jocular, but really, likely the least offensive member of the band when it comes to his sense of humor. His goal in life is to 'say he was there,' in his own words--to have a good time, not necessarily as the focus of anyone's attention. It's enough to take it all in.
Appearance:
Jimmy's a bit funny-looking. Gangly, with a prominent Adam's apple and a slightly pinched face, he always looks like he's on the verge of laughing. He has overgrown eyebrows, dark hair and eyes, and looks a little like a good-natured criminal: just a bit sleazy and rat-like, but a rat you'd like to cuddle.
