AFTER GRADUATION: The Fourth Unforgivable
Magic is spreading
The line is thinning
UNITED KINGDOM
WINTER, 2018
The mood in the UK is dismal. Harry Potter is still missing. The investigations into his and other disappearances have seemingly halted. Foreign countries are now taking interest in Great Britain's apparent ineptitude at running herself, and it is causing political panic among the high-ranking Ministry officials that remain after Shaklebolt's murder, Garrow's arrest and the so-called "Apparition Bug."
The Bug has been attributed to Garrow and his team, who are accused of capturing people on which to test the fourth unforgivable, the Dementor's Kiss Curse--but they all swear they had nothing to do with it, and that the only people they captured were Muggles. Oh, and Judy Baines.
And speaking of Muggles--which everyone is--the MLE has issued a new policy that requires the press to report any material they receive that is of an anti-Muggle or anti-Muggleborn nature. Though it was intended to be secret, the knowledge has been (of course) printed, and many of the wizarding community are infuriated by the censorship.
'Tis the season to antagonize.
Elements
- Political Turmoil: With the figurehead of the Ministry's reinvigoration, Edward Garrow, in Azkaban for his commission of the Dementor's Kiss Curse, the government is in a worse state than it was following the disappearance of Harry Potter and the murder of Minister Shaklebolt. Politicians are anxious to consolidate power, and each has himself in mind for the most dominant position. Brotherhood and unity are foreign concepts.
- The MLE Search: Harry Potter and several other prominent witches and wizards are still missing, many of them presumed dead. The Department of Magical Law Enforcement has reached a breaking point; short-staffed and under-supplied, tension is running high as the line between good and bad is blurred by suspicion within the department.
- The Muggle Invasion: Ever since the last battle with Voldemort, the line between the magical and muggle world has grown thin. Strange rumors spread through the muggle world that there is a secret world of witches and wziards living right underneath their noses, and suspicious muggles start noticing more magic and even attempt to catch witches and wizards performing magic. The ministry realizes that the more they try to get to the root of the disappearances, the more the muggles find out about their world. If there's another disaster, will the line rupture completely? Will the wizarding way of life survive?
- Magical Terrorism: The thriving criminal underworld of the magical community has been getting much darker. Double, even triple agents are everywhere and while everyone is trying to make alliances to survive, no one can be trusted.
- Life as Usual...?: There are relationships that are destroyed through current events, and relationships that blossom in the new conditions. There are marriages and deaths and break-ups and births. New friendships will be forged, old friendships will be tested, and in the end, everyone will have to make a choice...should they sacrifice their futures for the future of the magical world as a whole?

Well, I think we need a dust-up between Shallah Kosa's group and the Syndicate.
And not just because Cal would be caught in the middle and there would be awesome.
No, I also think that since we've got all of these criminal allegiances, why not use them?

Gala thread for the Magic Mirror will be happening around this time. I'm thinking late October to early November would be a good time to set the thread because it leaves just enough time since Jasper's party for people to not feel "ugh, party" about it but it isn't so far away that Carmen wouldn't be able to attend etc.
I'm thinking I should start doing more with Liz but I'm not sure what, siteplot wise. She's not affiliated with any of the larger criminal organisations but, seeing as she's a muggleborn, she'd probably be opposed. Perhaps I could do something with that?

Ooooh, gang rivalry ftw! It would be interesting to see how Aleksandra and the Syndicate would react. On the one hand, she isn't a Pureblood witch but on the other hand, the kind of chaos that Kosa would create would be an excellent business opportunity and Aleksandra wouldn't consider herself being above war profiteering. Hmmm ... interesting.

I think some of our muggles need to start meeting. I mean they've all stumbled across the wizarding world in one way or another but none of them know each other.
Oh! And for the record. I don't know when you terrorists plan on beginning to terrorize the general public, but if you are interested I am offering up Daphne's bakery as the site for a potential attack. I will go so far as to allow the shop to be burned down, but Daphne must escape unscathed.
I will think more on the rest of the plottage swimming in my head and then let you all know.

Conflict between the Syndicate, crime circuit, and terrorists sounds awesome. I can't start much with it because the majority of my characters are law-abiding/enforcing, but at the least Carmen can get involved with all the groups as a sort of independent source of information. We were planning on using her for the terrorist group before. As time goes on I'm starting to see her as more and more independent of the groups...if she can help it.
Maybe Shallah can call a meeting of the terrorists, which somehow conflicts with a job or hit the Syndicate was working on?
As to the muggle thing...point taken. I'm going to get Ross hooked up in a few more threads in the coming weeks.

A shake up between the terrorists and the syndicate could be good fun, we should work out details! Once Shallah talks to Carmen she's going to be proceeding with her plans at a much quicker pace. She might be able to make use of the syndicate, as long as they were willing to play by her rules.

Terrorist! For this meeting do they recruit members? Since I do recall saying Sofia would be interested in getting involved but I'm not sure how she would be getting involved in the first place since she isn't wandering around searching the wanted adds for terrorist group members... and Cal so far is her only link to the 'dark side' though the shake up sounds like it would be fun. Level two will have quite a bit of work to do.
Also the Sinistra shop might be a prime target for terrorist since its a lovely combination of muggle love and the magical world though Arty and Apollo will murder and butcher and well go insane if someone attempted to hurt their home or clothes (depends on which one you are talking to). But it could be an attempted terrorist attack, while Daphne's will be a successful destruction one. Terrorist can't succeed with everything.

Ooh, just a random thought and I truly hope this is the place it belongs, but here's my little idea as well---
I wonder if what with the increasing danger of being discovered by the muggle world, the Ministry might need a better-organized way of dealing with Muggle affairs. I mean there's the Muggle-worthy excuses department and obliviators and all, but perhaps they'd kind of need to start surveying the Muggle populace's... state of mind, or what they're saying or thinking about the wizarding world. Possibly feeding false info (or is that Muggle-worthy excuses?). Anyway, something like counter-intelligence, almost.

Spiv and I talked about the muggle stuff today, actually--great minds! It's all posted on the
Etherpad down at the bottom. The Ministry will either have to find a new way of dealing with muggles or risk total destruction. Maybe they could put together some sort of muggle relations department?
Oh, plottage, how I love thee!
