History: Lydia was born, almost three weeks premature, to Mark and Ioana Blaxter. She was a sickly child and spent most of the first three years of her life in and out of muggle hospitals for various developmental issues, most notably low body weight (an ongoing theme at both doctor and healer visits ever since). Health issues aside, however, Lydia had a fairly normal childhood. Complications from Lydia's birth had rendered her Mother infertile, but that hardly stood in the way of a normal, happy, perfectly unmagical childhood.
Or at least it was perfectly unmagical until the day the borscht exploded. The unsightly stew, Lydia's least favorite, was a dish to pass from her mother's (tacitly Romanian) family. But the joke was on Mark; Ioana and her family were all magical, but had thought it best to conceal the fact unless an occasion such as this should arise. He laughed it off at first, proud that his daughter should be party to a world he had hardly imagined, but his wife's secrecy grated on him. They began to fight. Magic could have helped Lydia when she was young, could have solved in a heartbeat so many problems that had scarred their happiness. Before the year was out, Lydia's parents were negotiating an open divorce.
The terms of the divorce gave primary custody to Ioana, weekends and holidays with Mark, free texting, and unlimited calling within the same service provider. True to form, Lydia took the whole thing in stride and adapted, although her parents eventually developed a certain level of antipathy for one another, not for any particular reason (the divorce had been smooth and level-headed) other than that it seemed the done thing for a divorced couple to do. They began to compete for Lydia's affections, from which she profited immensely. From her father, she received tremendous material compensation (particularly after he remarried, as if to compensate for his having moved on). Her mother gave her liberty, let her take whichever lessons she wanted, wear what she wanted, and do as she pleased within reason. The two freedoms combined could have been disastrous, but Lydia's interests narrowed upon music, focusing the brunt of her parents' competition on guitar lessons and voice instructors.
At Hogwarts, Lydia's desire to learn (and, more importantly, her mad competitive streak) landed her in Ravenclaw, but in her third year, she discovered Amaterasu, joined on the bass guitar, and irrevocably complicated her scholastic interests. With music to distract her, her grades fell from pristine to exemplary and her parents, who had come to expect nothing but perfection from their daughter after two and a half years of perfect marks, were anything but thrilled—or rather, her mother wasn't thrilled. Her father loved the band even if, as a matter of law and principal, he could never come to a show. Fortunately for Lydia, this rendered her mother immobile.
By Lydia's fifth year, Amaterasu was beginning to look like a major commitment. She was terrified of the tremendous risks posed by the music industry, but Kiyoshi, the lead singer and one of the band's founders, bore the brunt of the risk by dropping out of school and breaking into the industry on the band's behalf. In light of his tremendous willingness to devote himself to their cause, Lydia couldn't help but dive straight into the music industry after graduation. Since then, she has discovered that she positively adores life in the social fast lane. The constant criticism and constant terror of saying the wrong thing have only motivated her to become better, more polished, and more perfectly rough around the edges in order to facilitate a strong public image.
Personality: Lydia is confident, above all else, and her confidence manifests both positively and negatively in her personality. One one hand, she is unshakable and takes criticism well. She handles social situations gracefully, exercises liberal helpings of sarcasm and wit whenever necessary, and is very much her own mistress One the other hand, she has been known to say to much, to offend with her rough speech and brutal honestly. Were she a bit less self assured, she might be more patient, but a short attention span and a shorter temper make Lydia a bit... dangerous... to anyone who can't take the occasional verbal bludgeoning.
Ultimately, though, Lydia is a perfectly decent person. She may be quick tempered and sharp-tongued, but she cannot hold a grudge to save her life and apologizes readily. She hasn't much along the lines of maternal instincts except as they apply to her fellow band members (...and maybe, to a lesser extent, to her half siblings); she'd happily go to war for any of them and is often the only one protecting them from their own craziness.
Appearance: Lydia's long sixties-styled bangs obscure half of her face, making her already abnormally large eyes seem even larger. That, coupled with a wraithishly thin frame and a horrible tendency to slouch when she thinks no one is looking, gives her a rather acidic sort of beauty. She isn't particularly 'sexy', so to speak—she's flat-chested to the extreme and has absolutely no curves to speak of. It's more her confidence and the delicate asymmetry of her face (all chihuahua eye issues aside...) that lead people to prescribe the term “pretty.”
