Title: Hey Everyone
Sydney Browne - November 15, 2008 08:44 AM (GMT)
Welcome to After Graduation! Why don't you tell us a little about yourself?
Name, well that is easy enough, you can call me Mike. I'm 20 and in college. I am studying Political Science and History. I love HP rpgs and was very excited when I found this one.
We love you already. <3
Now that you've told us about yourself, why don't you tell us about your character? Here's a quick summary sheet to make it easy.
Describe your character in less than a paragraph.Sydney is a hard working civil servant that has been around the block more than a few times. She has worked in a couple of departments and has dedicated almost a century to the Ministry. Some of her contemporaries like to joke that if she had tried to go for Minister of Magic her career would have been over a long time ago.
What's your posting style like?I tend to focus on thought more than action but I'm working to balance it out. I usually post a minimum of 400 words. Other sites that I am on have incentives to make posts more than 600 words or so, so I like to post that much or more.
What sort of plots or roleplays are you interested in? Serious or light? Long-term or short?I'm interested in serious roleplays and a few long-term plots. My character is like ancient so I think that she would be a teacher/mentor of sorts, therefore a few short-term plots would be cool too.
Fantastic! Now I hope you've prepared yourself. You're about to be bombarded with welcomes and thread requests from many wonderful roleplayers.
Ron Weasley - November 15, 2008 12:44 PM (GMT)
My name on cbox is Roe and I play 2 canon characters who came out of Hogwarts in the same year and are 38 years old:
Ron Weasley .... currently ..... but we don't know for how long .... the Deputy Head of the Department of Law Enforcement .... Level 2 at the Ministry. Since Harry Potter's disappearance Ron hasn't been himself .... tends to be a bit emotional and impulsive ... even with his superiors. He's sometimes referred to as being "on the edge" by others. He just came back from a self-imposed leave of absence after turning down being Harry's replacement as Department Head. He really isn't fitting back in too well yet.
Neville Longbottom ... Nevv has been the Professor of Herbology at Hogwarts for 15 years, after being an Auror for 5 years. Was a hero in the 2nd Wizarding wars, when Voldemort met his demise. He married the former Hannah Abbott, who was also the landlord at the Leaky Cauldron. She just gave birth to twins on Halloween, but unfortunately died in childbirth. Neville is currently in a state of shock about the whole event. So, Neville is still a bit of a lost soul as he is wondering if he's done the right thing with his life, and has now a darker view of things.

Nice to meet you Roe. It would be cool if we could get a Sydney / Ron thread going. She might be able to help him out a bit, since she has been around the block a few times.
Ron Weasley - November 15, 2008 08:36 PM (GMT)
If you want to set up a thread .... feel free.
Dermot Ballantine - November 15, 2008 08:59 PM (GMT)
Hi Mike, welcome to AG! I'm Carmen, one half of the admin team. I'm also twenty and in college, studying Pro Writing. I love the character you have here, there are a lot of possibilities for her. It's great that she's so old too, haha. There aren't nearly enough centenarians on the site. :)
Here are the characters I have to offer:
Dermot "Derry" Ballantine: Thirtysomething Irishman, recently married to Lucy Simington, and currently working as an Irish rep in the UK's Office of Law. He's an all-around Good Guy who is trying to pick up the pieces of his life after the Irish Blood Revolution destroyed his bright future there. He and Sydney probably know each other and may have worked together at some point.
There's actually plottage going on right now that Sydney could get involved in. Derry's insane little sister, Ivy Ballantine, a hit witch currently working in an auror capacity for England, has landed herself in a load of trouble due to her connections with Edward Garrow, her evil wife-beating Junior Undersecretary husband that no one knows she's married to. Basically he's trying to put her in prison, but Derry and several others know the truth and are trying to get Garrow in instead. Sydney would be a useful connection and if you're willing, she could take part in the trial craziness.
Carmen Snidgeton: Evil incarnate. The Prophet's nasty Junior Editor who is currently hiding out from Garrow who has a vendetta against her for the fourth unforgivable article she published, is pregnant with her mortal enemy Apollo Sinistra's child whom she had a one-night stand with after he drugged her, and is working with an underground terrorist organization that is plotting to throw the UK into magical anarchy. Plus she's scheming to destroy Jasper Christie's reputation by publishing several compromising photos of him with his squib boyfriend. She's a real charmer. The two may run into each other eventually.
Roscoe Blaine: A super hot ex-stripper muggle with an energetic, genuinely charming personality and a weakness for the ladies. He has a different job and accent in every thread. He enjoys acting and showmanship. When magic collapses in Britain he may meet Sydney, but I don't see it happening any time soon.
Aaaand that's all! (My other character, Darien Holywell, is dead. Woot!) Let me know if you're inspired for any threads or plottage, and once again, welcome to AG!
James Edwards - November 15, 2008 09:56 PM (GMT)
Hey, Mike! I'm Ewan and I've got three characters at the moment.
Anne Davies is an older woman (not as old as Sydney, though) who is aware of her ticking biological clock and is looking for love. She's not involved in anything deep and probably never will be. She works at the Ministry, though, in the Muggleworthy Excuses Committee so perhaps they've met before.
James Edwards is the Pureblooded owner of Edwards Publishing House who also happens to be a closeted homosexual who nevertheless wants to marry a nice Pureblood girl one day.
Elizabeth Darling is in her early thirties and is Muggleborn. She's better known as The Black Death due to her trafficking of doxy powder. She likes a bit of a drink and by day she's a wealthy Muggleborn socialite. She has no close friends due to her extensive travels, though.
Sydney Browne - November 15, 2008 10:23 PM (GMT)
Its nice to meet you Carmen and I just want to say I absolutely love your characters.
Ewan, I think that Anne and Sydney would know each other pretty well actually. Anne is basically what Sydney was when she was 50, except for the wanting to have children part. They could be friends if you want. After all, when your in the Ministry as long as Sydney has been, you know a lot of people.
As for Elizabeth, I think her and Sydney could go one of two ways. Either not know each other at all or Sydney could be one of Elizabeth's get out of jail free cards. Elizabeth is exactly the kind of person that Sydney would want to be friends with. Elizabeth operates in the criminal world and hears what people actually have problems with and what not. She could an informal informant of Sydney's if that suits you..?
Calixtus Ferox - November 15, 2008 10:35 PM (GMT)
Hey, I'm Sam. Also 20, also college student. May I say that this is what I love about AG: that the 114-year-old politicians get just as much (more) interesting plot offers than the 20-year-olds. Awesome. :D
That aside, I don't know how much I've actually got for you. Briefly:
Cal, obviously (this account), the 'Squib boyfriend' Carmen mentioned so tersely. Actually, he's better-known as the criminal underworld's favorite (least favorite?) mad scientist. He brews potions, invents spells, etc. He's still a Squib, of course. He worked for Garrow, but no one knows. Or really cares. He's also working for the terrorists. That sort of thing. He is from an old Pureblood family (they use their influence to cover up his 'defect'), and he tends to be in trouble with the Ministry a lot for small violations. They've sort of missed the whole 'criminal' thing, though. Oh, and he's a neurotic drug addict who rarely remembers to put on both shoes. Fun. But not much RP opportunity unless she knows the family really well, and even then...
I've also got E.B. Braun, a young, overeager Auror. Beginning an interesting mentor/mentee relationship with his old teacher, Amadeus Faulkner. He wants to clear Ed Garrow's name. He isn't very bright, obviously... Well, to be fair, Garrow is quite charismatic, and a fellow ex-Gryffindor.
The only character I could see really easily interacting with Sydney is Sebastian Kent, my young reporter. He could, you know, report. Interview. He's interested in economics and politics (see Prophet article on deflation--OK, yeah, it's boring, I know!). He's a very immature fellow, sort of smarmy.
Anyway, it sounds like you'll have plenty to do here. :) Welcome to AG! Even if my characters don't appeal to you, there are lots of other choices. Have fun!
Constance Fallon - November 15, 2008 10:54 PM (GMT)
Hi Mike! I'm Spiv, the other half of the admin team! I'm nineteen and in college studying English Lit and Pro Writing. I currently hold the record for the most characters on AG. Are you ready?
Lucy Ballantine, age 29. Her husband is Dermot Ballantine, a legislator for the Department of International Magical Cooperation. She is an Irish Muggle-born and a former Free Blood revolutionary who teaches Muggle Studies at Hogwarts. Having already had plenty of “adventures” and life experiences in her youth, all Lucy really wants to do now is settle down with Derry and have oodles of children.
Logan Fletcher, age 26, is a former Unspeakable now looking for employment in the private sector; his brilliance makes him cynical of the menial life he now lives. He developed the Fourth Unforgivable, but was released in exchange for his testimony against Edward Garrow, who commissioned the spell from him. For months Logan had ignored the moral consequences of a curse that steals someone’s soul; when he met Artemis Sinistra, she awakened a new side of him, a side that saw ethical right and wrong, instead of just intellectual right and wrong. Though Logan is still in love with her, he doesn’t have high hopes for a relationship in the aftermath of the trial.
Edward Garrow, age 29, was formerly the Junior Undersecretary of the Ministry. He commissioned the Fourth Unforgivable, the Dementor’s Kiss Curse, buying theories from Calixtus Ferox and giving them to Logan Fletcher to develop. Prior to the scandal, he was a charming and well-liked politician, but his true colors have been revealed. He has a massive temper, is a raging alcoholic, and is obsessed with his wayward wife, Ivy Ballantine. It was at her trial, on charges of breaking and entering, attempted kidnapping and assault, that the tables were turned and evidence against him was put forward, resulting in his arrest and imprisonment.
Will Channing, age 25, is the assistant to Benjamin Astbury, the Head of Magical Law Enforcement. You’d be hard-put to find someone who hated or even disliked Will Channing. He’s friendly, cheerful and generous, always willing to help out anyone who needs it, even outside his department. He’s a great listener and loves hearing out people’s problems, but he has trouble returning the favor and confiding in his friends. He's a member of an unofficial "Boy's Club" featuring Jasper Christie (black market criminal), Apollo Sinistra (fashion guru) and Atlas Caedmon (lunatic). As the Head's assistant, he tends to show his face just about everywhere on various Level Two errands.
Constance Fallon, age 24, is a no-nonsense Auror. Her world view is very black and white and she has a rude and abrasive sense of humor. Her family was murdered in her seventh year, which is why she became an Auror; she was originally set on becoming a Healer. Con has a heart buried somewhere under all her Scottish temper, but she has very little experience with relationships, platonic or otherwise, and so she has a definite barrier up against certain levels of intimacy, though the men of the world seem to be doing their best to knock them down—like Roscoe Blaine, the ex-stripper she went for an impromptu watery romp with.
Patrick Everard, age 20, is pretty ambitious, coming from a long line of successful criminals. He is a criminal Jack-of-all-trades, but usually works as a middleman for buyers and sellers of artifacts. Regardless, he's very charismatic and a lot of fun, as long as it's playtime and not business time. He has a job at Dervish and Banges but is also sort of an unofficial curse breaker for the Russian Syndicate, a crime mob operating out of Knockturn Alley. He was sort of dragged into it when they caught him smuggling cursed golden artifacts into England without their say-so. He stays because of his intense feelings for the beautiful mob boss, Aleksandra Mikhaylova.
Margot Blanchard, age 18, is a Muggle with the capabilities of a medium. She is calm, intelligent, and American (three things that don't often go together); she's traveled to England to pursue a photography career and also to develop her connection to the "spirit" realm. She’s currently employed by Atlas Caedmon as Rudolph the skeleton’s translator and babysitter. She'll [eventually] hook up with paranormal investigator and wizard huntress Penny White.
Wesley Coleman, 50, is...very hard to describe. He's a freelance journalist who likes to write satirical pieces that only he finds the humor in because it either offends people or goes over their heads. His conversation is much the same way; he's a jovial and fun-loving jokester, but his jokes are usually made at the expense of other people.
Agatha Jarvey, dead, is a ghost who haunts Jarvey Estate. I don't think they'll interact, unless you go to the estate very often.
- - - - -
So let's see...Sydney will likely meet Lucy through Derry, Will through his Ministerial wanderings, Con through Will, etc., etc., etc. I'm afraid I've got to run for a bit, otherwise I'd give more detailed ideas...but let me know if anything strikes you!
:D
Wendell Darrow - November 16, 2008 12:44 AM (GMT)
Hiya! I'm Arty, a 21 year old History major.
Artemis Sinistra - Arty is co-owner of Sinistra's Secondhand Shop with her twin brother Apollo (she tends to be the more down to earth one that takes care of business). Her claim to fame is her obscenely bad dating record (i.e. Logan: fourth unforgiveable creator among many others). Right now she's trying to regroup after discovering her current love interest was instrumental in developing the curse that was used to basically kill her previous love interest. It's...a long story.
Wendell Darrow - Petty crook/MLE snitch who prefers to spend his time flirting with the pretty brunette Aurors (esp. Sofia Robards). He was recently arrested for stealing wedding presents, but Sofia broke him out of jail. He then faked his own death and over-dosed on poly juice potion. So he semi-permanently looks like Christian Bale. Literally. He mugged Christain Bale for his hair sample for the potion. (In his defense he'd never seen Batman!) Right now he's "undercover" pretending to be an American auror who's moved to England and he works for the MLE.
Daphne Honeycutt- Muggle born Daphne owns a bakery in Diagon Alley. She is possibly the most cheerful person you will ever meet. She believes that baked goods can solve all the worlds problems, or maybe a little honey.
Penelope White- Although she's not doing a whole lot at present, Penelope White is a muggle paranormal investigator determined to uncover the magical world. (Whose existance she discovered after her grandmother [a witch] died and she inherited all her possessions.)
Elizabeth Darrow- Wendell's younger sister, who is currently a lacky in the syndicate crime organization under Aleksandra.
If you can come up with anything for any of my characters I'd be interested. I just caught a cold so my brain isn't working with me today, otherwise I'd have offered suggestions. Sorry!
Sydney Browne - November 16, 2008 07:31 AM (GMT)
Hi, its nice to meet all of you. And here goes the responses...
Sam, I think that Sebastian Kent could easily do an interview of Sydney. There may be a condition of course... that he becomes one of her informants. Other than that they could keep running into each other at random places or something. I also see the potential for one or two threads with E.B. Braun simply because they both work at the Ministry.
Spiv, I like the way most of that sounds except that I think that Sydney would already know Lucy because Sydney has been working in department of international magical cooperation for decades and knows most of the people that work there. She is one of the British seats after all, and probably someone that Lucy has worked with on occasion.
Arty, I could see Sydney liking Daphne a lot. While Sydney is hard career woman, someone like Daphne would remind her of why she gets of in the morning and that there is hope in the world.
That's all i can think of for now... if you have any other thoughts please share them!
Constance Fallon - November 16, 2008 05:04 PM (GMT)
(Lucy doesn't work in International Magical Cooperation. She's only been in England for five years, was a private tutor for four and a half, and only recently got the Muggle Studies teaching job.)
:)
Sydney Browne - November 16, 2008 07:27 PM (GMT)
I missed the "Her husband..." bit. Okay that makes more sense now. B)
Kelsey Andersson - November 17, 2008 12:39 AM (GMT)
Hey I'm Jemma...
I only have one charrie here at the moment
Kelsey Andersson: 25, former Hufflepuff. Kelsey was born to two Muggles, Laura and Matthew Andersson. They fell in love during High School, went to the same College and five years after graudating the two of them got married and had two beautiful children - Matilda (Mattie for short) and Kelsey. Mattie was one year older than Kelsey and at the age of 11 Kelsey received a letter from Hogwarts inviting her to study there. Her parents were proud to have another Wizard in the family. She became a Hufflepuff like her sister. At Hogwarts Kelsey made many friends; friends who would be there for her through thick and thin and would care for her very much...as she did for them. Laura thought that both Kelsey and her sister should get a Muggle education too, so at the some time as being at Hogwarts, the two of them were being sent Muggle school. Kelsey enjoyed this a lot, after finishing at Hogwarts Kelsey went to a Muggle university and studied Muggle History. This was when everything changed, another Magical war had broken out and Kelsey and her family were in the middle of it. Matthew sadly died that same year, due to being so proud of his daughters he joined the Muggle branch Magical police. He died in Leicester Square, London. Matthew was helping the Wizards fight againest the Dark Wzards. After the war had ended, Kelsey taught at Hogwarts for a few months but she was always reminded of her father; it did not also help that she felt like he was being watched everywhere she went, she decided to apply for other teaching posts. Kelsey hopes to return to Hogwarts someday, as that was where she felt safe and working at her best. Currently Kelsey is working in the Ministry of Magic, in the Magical Accidents & Catastrophes department. she is the specialist in Muggle Items. Kelsey is smart, nice, thoughtful, patient, sensitive, and likes to joke around. But when she get’s past her pressure point, she will explodeswith anger. She's ambitious, helpful and caring with it comes to toher people. By nature, Kelsey is an academic. She loves to learn. At times, Kelsey is reminded of her past and then becomes depressed; but this does not happen as much since she worked at Beauxbatons in France for over a year. When it comes to love and romance, she falls in and out of love very quickly, at her age she should be looking for a man to settle down with...but Mr Right has not yet arrived.
I am in the process of making another character, but I'm keeping it under my hat for a while...
