Most said her life would be back to normal after the accident. Those same people seemed to drift away once she was awake. It had only taken a few months for Kate's life to shift dramatically. Suddenly, she felt lonely and empty, probably for the first time in her life. People seemed to look at her with pity mixed in with disgust. Not disgust, so to say, but they didn't want anything to do with her. There was a fear that if they came too close, something like losing their souls could happen to them, too. Not that everyone even about the soul sucking, but people could sense something was wrong with her. She'd become quite forgetful, and seemed more absent minded, if that was even possible. Kate got lost almost every time she went out, and Apollo would be ashamed of her wardrobe. She liked to call it a fashion forward statement. The large blue cotton shirt and leggings underneath were anything but classy. The girl still wore her bright red shoes, too. Kate sighed and tapped the shoes together. She sure looked different, and felt different.

She had woke up that morning, threw the cotton shirt on and hadn't even touched her hair. Now, the brown hair was messy and curly, falling down her back. The only thing she'd done to help it, was throw a bright blue headband in. Without a second glance in the mirror, Kate walked out of her flat and into the streets of Diagon Alley.

She smiled and took a sniff of the stuffy air. Kate loved the way the crowded streets smelt. Potions, mixed with candy, mixed with people, the smell made her want to stay out all day. Kate closed her eyes, trying to soak in the smell forever, and began walking towards wherever her feet could take her. Yes, having your eyes closed and walking down Diagon Alley would be one of the harder things to do, and yet Kate was doing it. She ran into her far share of witches and wizards, received numerous threats and curses, and yet, Kate paid them no attention. She had finally opened her eyes and was now looking at the sky. How pretty! Kate had never seen that shade of gray. She grinned, waved up to the clouds and kept on walking.

Soon, she found herself in Honeydukes Sweetshop. Kate grinned and skipped towards the chocolate frogs. Kate began to rummage through the candy and she softly sang to herself. "The song will come out tomorrow! So just hang on till tomorrow. Come what may... Tomorrow! Tomorrow! I'll love you, tomorrow! There's..." Kate looked up from the bin, forgetting the words. "chocolate and candy all day."

There were some things only sweets could fix.

It was a fairly stereotypical scene: a woman, scorned by a lover and horribly depressed, searching the house for the nearest spoon and gallon of ice cream to muffle the pain in calories. Zoey didn't have this problem. Her issues, when she recognized them, were slightly kookier and less complicated than some sort of terrible loss of love or skewed body image, even if she did have one of the two. To be perfectly frank, Zoey had had her heart broken often enough. Whether or not she took notice of it was an entirely different conversation. There was really no excuse for it, Zoey was just very easily distracted. Sure, a lover walking out on her may have been enough for her to throw a few things around. And no question about it, any boyfriend counted as a 'lover.' Zoey loved just as easily as she was distracted and the fact that those loves were short-lived shouldn't be any reason to discount any of them. Still, a broken heart wasn't one of the things that required chocolaty sustenance for repair.

Zoey's approach to junk food was much more practical: she needed the rush. Coffee had proven to have ill side effects where she was concerned. Really, a caffeinated Zoey was something the world had only seen once and would never want to see again. Sugar, though, gave her just enough of a jolt that she could continue whatever project necessitated artificial energy without making her cross the line between quirky and legitimately crazy.

This current project, for some reason, had to be done right away. Unfortunately, Zoey was so tired that she probably wouldn't even be able to tell anyone what the project was. She needed SUGAR and she needed it WITHOUT DELAY. Fortunately she still hadn’t reached the point at which it would have been perfectly acceptable to eat white sugar straight out of the bag with a spoon and for that reason she found herself at Honeydukes Sweet Shop, piling any and everything into a basket.

Her long blonde hair was braided, or had been braided, once. Now hair stuck out of the rope messily, as if she'd gone to sleep with it still tied and hadn't done anything for it since. Her clothes, likewise, were wrinkled and stained with all sorts of unexplainable substances. She was wearing two different socks, one striped with red and green for the holidays and the other with a little edging of lace around the ankle, like a little girl's sock. The bags under her eyes told tales, though they probably weren't true. And there was a slight shake to her hands as she grabbed up sugar quills and chocoballs and Every-Flavor beans.

Singing from the next aisle over had her singing along without paying much attention to it. "…you're only a day aw—hey!" she said, looking up as she realized that that hadn't been muzak played for the sake of the customers and that whoever was singing that song had the very very wrong words. A pleased look of recognition passed her features as she saw the culprit. "Kate!" she exclaimed, dropping her basket to move forward, meaning to wrap her arms around her old friend. Seeing the girl's hair, she patted her own and then frowned, as if just realizing how she must have looked. "Are you building a rocketship too?"

Did she want that chocolate frog? No. The side was a bit dented. Did she want the other frog? No. Kate shook her head in annoyance. How could anyone eat a chocolate frog with all these dents in the side? Without even pausing to pick up the packages, now thrown across the floor, she just kept on singing and inspecting packages. Some would think that people who handle such delicate sweet with better care. Kate scoffed. Some people just didn't know how to take care of the delicious frogs! With that, she tossed another one to the floor, denting it another two times.

Kate was singing so loud, she barley noticed the person near her, singing a long. It wasn't until they cried out that Kate look up. She grinned when she saw who it was. "Zooey!" she grinned, throwing her arms around her friend. Zooey Wyatt. Kate really loved her. Sure, there was the silly problem of an age difference, but neither of them gave any thought to it. Kate really looked up to Zooey. She hadn't seen the lady in a few months, and so, she grinned like a silly fool as they embraced.

"Are you building a rocketship too?" Kate blinked at Zooey a few times. What was she talking about? A rocket ship? Kate thought that they didn't have that sort of stuff in the wizarding world. She had just assumed it was a muggle thing. After all, Darien hadn't even known what a smurf was. Kate cocked her head to one side, confusion lacing her face.

"No," she said, shaking her head violently, and looking like a young child. "No, I'm buying candy," Kate pointed out, letting her hand showcase the hundreds on candies she had been looking through. "Are you building a rock-ship? Are you going to the moon? Can I come? Do you think it's really made out of cheese?" Kate said all this in quite a hurry, blinked, and turned back to the chocolate.

"You know," she said, removing her hands from the candy and angrily turning back to Zooey. "Some people do not take very good care of this candy. Don't they know you have to be gentle?" Kate said, stepping on a chocolate. "Gee Willikers." Kate huffed in annoyance and kept on sifting through the candy.
