Title: Lord Of The Rings Meets Ag
Description: we're recasting, viz. cbox discussion

Calixtus Ferox - January 16, 2009 06:12 AM (GMT)
Right, so we've been furtively recasting Lord of the Rings with AG characters in the cbox, but I don't think we've exactly reached a consensus. Here's what I would do with it--correct, refine, add, as you like.

The One Ring: Jasper (Carmen's idea, because everyone wants him, and, well...)

Gollum: Cal (was there any question about this? New pet name for Jasper: 'Preciousss...' Like we need more disturbing images of these two...)

Frodo: Atlas (revised because I agree with Caroline)

Sam: Will (he's a loyal friend)

Merry: Wendell

Pippin: Apollo (the youngest Hobbit? Oh, it works, though I'm aware it leaves Ros high and dry...)

Aragorn: Ros (That's right, I went there. Rangers are cool. And American.)

Elrond: Ben Astbury

Eowyn: Constance Artemis (admit it, it does sort of work better)

Arwen: Artemis Constance ((new))

Boromir: Amadeus Faulkner

Faramir: Logan (tormented, overlooked, used by his crazy 'father'/authority figure... redeemed in the end)

Witch-King: Carmen

Saruman: Garrow

Shelob: Shallah Kosa

Gandalf: Nick (?)

OK, there are NOT enough women. Help! I'm not sure I like these. Anyone else? Ideas?

Galadriel: Lucy. Blonde, sparkly...it works.

Arwen! Who will be Arwen?

Carmen Snidgeton - January 16, 2009 06:28 AM (GMT)
Shallah as Shelob, definitely. I get great mental pictures with that pairing. Sauron could be the fourth unforgivable, or the eye could be the rip between dimensions.

The evil ones are so much easier to cast.

I like that Sparkly Sue plays the Sparkly Sue.

Would Arty work as Arwen?

Ross could work with the Aragorn role. He'd love the big swords and strutting, and the fact that both major female characters are in love with him.

Constance Fallon - January 16, 2009 06:31 AM (GMT)
Arty would be a GREAT Arwen! Although, the IC pairings don't exactly match up...but that's not important.

Shallah as Shelob is fantastic! Yes.

But who is Gimli? And Legolas? And Wendell can't be Frodo and Merry! (Fun bit of trivia, though: in the early drafts, Merry was Frodo and Frodo was one of the cousins; and, Strider was actually a hobbit named Trotter.)

Calixtus Ferox - January 16, 2009 06:40 AM (GMT)
lol, I told you I was tired.

Maybe we need a new Frodo? Who's tortured and knows Wil et al.?

Jasper Christie - January 16, 2009 02:40 PM (GMT)
Atlas! Plus he's burdened with soul-in-a-box. He's not really best friends with Will or anything, but he seems the most appropriate otherwise.

Alternately keep Wendell as Frodo and make Mont Merry?

Constance Fallon - January 16, 2009 04:50 PM (GMT)
I don't think Mont would be a good Merry. Merry is (in the books anyway) the most resourceful and level-headed of the hobbits.

I like Wendell as Frodo; I think Atlas would actually be a good Merry. Sure, he's a bit wacky, but he does keep a cool head...sort of.

Legolas: Derry (pretty, honorable...tall)

Gimli: Patrick (inflated ego?)

Eomer: Ivy (does what he thinks is right even against the king's orders much?)

Bilbo: Wesley Coleman (he likes to write, and play tricks on people)

[EDIT:] Behold...the hobbits:

I think Arty would make a pretty good Eowyn actually...I mean no she's not obsessed with being the warrior woman...but lets admit it Eowyn gets dumped for the hot elf girl. Well...scorned/ignored. He's too obsessed with Lucy *cough* oh wait...wrong plot. He's too obsessed with Arwen! Plus she ends up with Faramir in the end...and thus we have some correct pairings on our hands!

Perhaps Constance could be Arwen...she still battles...sometimes when she's not whining. Constance whines a lot. It could work.

oh...and Apollo suggested Lucy for Galadrial and I agree. Shiny, Sparkling Sue anyone?

Calixtus Ferox - January 16, 2009 11:46 PM (GMT)
Brilliant! It makes sense and matches up the pairings.

So, erm, I guess that makes Bram that-random-woman-Eomer-gets-in-the-end.

I'm not 100% satisfied with the current Legolas, though. Derry and Patrick don't have that bickering relationship. Do they?

And who're Nat's characters? Mikhaylova could be evil!Legolas... erm....

Artemis Sinistra - January 16, 2009 11:48 PM (GMT)
Oh and Rosie Cotton = Daphne.

Kate Derum - January 16, 2009 11:56 PM (GMT)
I really wish I knew who you all were talking about O.o

The only character I know if Merry.

Constance Fallon - January 17, 2009 07:55 AM (GMT)
Derry and Patrick could, I suppose. They're cousins by marriage and their views don't quite match up...I dunno, I was just throwing out some ideas. I had some trouble choosing them. Other ideas?
