Title: Hello!
Description: Here's another Auror
Julie Richmond - March 9, 2009 03:48 PM (GMT)
Welcome to After Graduation! Why don't you tell us a little about yourself?
Hello! I'm Mary-Ann and I turned 20 today :) I'm currently studying at a university. No one really knows what my subject is (semiotics), but it's fun. I love writing, honestly. And art and culture and everything, you might say, that's airy-fairy. And also cats and books and languages. And black humour. Sometimes I'm kind of silly, but then who isn't?
I'm horribly sorry that Julie seems a bit of a Mary-Sue, I honestly intent to endeavor to my utmost for her not to... Be. A Sue. I'l throw rocks and stones and nervous breakdowns and awkward situations at her. :)
Oh, and can I just say that I positively love AG! Well, the bit an outsider sees anyway. I've been searching for an advanced site for ages and AG is kind of my perfect choice. I'm all excitement and anticipation :D
We love you already. <3
Now that you've told us about yourself, why don't you tell us about your character? Here's a quick summary sheet to make it easy.
Describe your character in less than a paragraph.Julie's all about compartmentalizing. One moment she's all responsibility, duty and dedication, trying to be the perfect Auror. And then the other, she's a warm-hearted girl with a little passion for the arts and a slightly mischievous streak. But of course it's not that easy to switch from the one moment to the other (especially lately) and whenever work and personal life clash, she's an absolute wreck.
What's your posting style like?I think it takes me a little time to process what exactly I'm responding to or writing about. I suppose I ramble occasionally, especially with the inner monologue. I tend to include lots of gestures or looks. And of course occasionally I get carried away - winding off in strange and distant corridors of my mind.
What sort of plots or roleplays are you interested in? Serious or light? Long-term or short?Oooh, I suppose I'd firstly love some really hard and gritty missions for Julie. I didn't know whether there was some special espionage or intelligence division of the Aurors, but that kind of thing is something I've very interested in involving Julie in. Generally, it would be wonderful to have some really long, drawn-out relationships that slowly trudge on from one state to the next. Although I always like fun things as well. I'm up for anything, really! Perhaps some work-related drama, something that'd really force her out of her comfort zone into making quick and difficult decisions, which is something she absolutely hates. And I think some adventures in Muggle London would be fun as well.
Fantastic! Now I hope you've prepared yourself. You're about to be bombarded with welcomes and thread requests from many wonderful roleplayers.
Ella Duncan - March 9, 2009 04:26 PM (GMT)
Hi! I'm Sarah- welcome to AG :)
Julie sounds fantastic, and I wouldn't worry about her seeming like a Mary Sue. Unless your character is pretty enough to be a supermodel, yet extremely down to earth, who just happens to be the best witch to ever grace the face of the planet, while still not being intimidating, and she's named Melody Song or some such thing (yes, that was a real character name)... I don't think you have anything to worry about.
I'm not sure I'd be able to help much with plotting. Ella's a purist, and wouldn't associate with Julie if she had any choice in the matter. She also doesn't have anything to do with the ministry, so that angle is out for me as well. There are a ton of characters at the ministry though, so you shouldn't have any shortage of rp partners.
Kelsey Andersson - March 9, 2009 04:48 PM (GMT)
Hey I'm Jemma...its my birthday today too!
I only have one charrie here at the moment
Kelsey Andersson: 25, former Hufflepuff. Kelsey was born to two Muggles, Laura and Matthew Andersson. They fell in love during High School, went to the same College and five years after graudating the two of them got married and had two beautiful children - Matilda (Mattie for short) and Kelsey. Mattie was one year older than Kelsey and at the age of 11 Kelsey received a letter from Hogwarts inviting her to study there. Her parents were proud to have another Wizard in the family. She became a Hufflepuff like her sister. At Hogwarts Kelsey made many friends; friends who would be there for her through thick and thin and would care for her very much...as she did for them. Laura thought that both Kelsey and her sister should get a Muggle education too, so at the some time as being at Hogwarts, the two of them were being sent Muggle school. Kelsey enjoyed this a lot, after finishing at Hogwarts Kelsey went to a Muggle university and studied Muggle History. This was when everything changed, another Magical war had broken out and Kelsey and her family were in the middle of it. Matthew sadly died that same year, due to being so proud of his daughters he joined the Muggle branch Magical police. He died in Leicester Square, London. Matthew was helping the Wizards fight againest the Dark Wzards. After the war had ended, Kelsey taught at Hogwarts for a few months but she was always reminded of her father; it did not also help that she felt like he was being watched everywhere she went, she decided to apply for other teaching posts. Kelsey hopes to return to Hogwarts someday, as that was where she felt safe and working at her best. Currently Kelsey is working in the Ministry of Magic, in the Magical Accidents & Catastrophes department. she is the specialist in Muggle Items. Kelsey is smart, nice, thoughtful, patient, sensitive, and likes to joke around. But when she get’s past her pressure point, she will explodeswith anger. She's ambitious, helpful and caring with it comes to toher people. By nature, Kelsey is an academic. She loves to learn. At times, Kelsey is reminded of her past and then becomes depressed; but this does not happen as much since she worked at Beauxbatons in France for over a year. When it comes to love and romance, she falls in and out of love very quickly, at her age she should be looking for a man to settle down with...but Mr Right has not yet arrived.
I am in the process of making another character, but I'm keeping it under my hat for a while...
Constance Fallon - March 9, 2009 08:59 PM (GMT)
Hi Mary-Ann! Let me tell you, I read your entire profile thoroughly before I changed your member group and Julie is one of the least Sue-y characters I've ever read about. I was very impressed. Anyway, I'm Spiv, and I'm one of the co-admins here at AG! I'm so psyched that you like it already. Now I just have to pray that we don't scare you off. ><
Anyhoo again, here are my 23849723438 characters. Actually 9 and a half.
Lucy Ballantine, age 29. Her husband is Dermot Ballantine, a legislator for the Department of International Magical Cooperation. She is an Irish Muggle-born and a former Free Blood revolutionary who teaches Muggle Studies at Hogwarts. Having already had plenty of “adventures” and life experiences in her youth, all Lucy really wants to do now is settle down with Derry and have oodles of children.
Logan Fletcher, age 26, is a former Unspeakable now looking for employment in the private sector; his brilliance makes him cynical of the menial life he now lives. He developed the Fourth Unforgivable, but was released in exchange for his testimony against Edward Garrow, who commissioned the spell from him. For months Logan had ignored the moral consequences of a curse that steals someone’s soul; when he met Artemis Sinistra, she awakened a new side of him, a side that saw ethical right and wrong, instead of just intellectual right and wrong. Though Logan is still in love with her, he doesn’t have high hopes for a relationship in the aftermath of the trial.
Edward Garrow, age 29, was formerly the Junior Undersecretary of the Ministry and is currently in Azkaban. He commissioned the Fourth Unforgivable, the Dementor’s Kiss Curse, buying theories from Calixtus Ferox and giving them to Logan Fletcher to develop. Prior to the scandal, he was a charming and well-liked politician, but his true colors have been revealed. He has a massive temper, is a raging alcoholic, and is obsessed with his wayward wife, Ivy Ballantine. It was at her trial, on charges of breaking and entering, attempted kidnapping and assault, that the tables were turned and evidence against him was put forward, resulting in his arrest and imprisonment.
Will Channing, age 25, is an Auror and was the assistant to Benjamin Astbury, the Head of Magical Law Enforcement. Since Astbury's disappearance, rumors of his promotion to Head of the MLE are circulating. You’d be hard-put to find someone who hated or even disliked Will Channing. He’s friendly, cheerful and generous, always willing to help out anyone who needs it, even outside his department. He’s a great listener and loves hearing out people’s problems, but he has trouble returning the favor and confiding in his friends. He's a member of an unofficial "Boy's Club" featuring Jasper Christie (black market criminal), Apollo Sinistra (fashion guru) and Atlas Caedmon (lunatic). He tends to show his face just about everywhere on various Level Two errands.
Constance Fallon, age 24, is a no-nonsense Auror. Her world view is very black and white and she has a rude and abrasive sense of humor. Her family was murdered in her seventh year, which is why she became an Auror; she was originally set on becoming a Healer. Con has a heart buried somewhere under all her Scottish temper, but she has very little experience with relationships, platonic or otherwise, and so she has a definite barrier up against certain levels of intimacy, though the men of the world seem to be doing their best to knock them down—like Roscoe Blaine, the ex-stripper she went for an impromptu watery romp with.
Patrick Everard, age 21, is pretty ambitious, coming from a long line of successful criminals. He is a criminal Jack-of-all-trades, but usually works as a middleman for buyers and sellers of artifacts. Regardless, he's very charismatic and a lot of fun, as long as it's playtime and not business time. He has a job at Dervish and Banges but is also sort of an unofficial curse breaker for the Russian Syndicate, a crime mob operating out of Knockturn Alley. He was sort of dragged into it when they caught him smuggling cursed golden artifacts into England without their say-so. He stays because of his intense feelings for the beautiful mob boss, Aleksandra Mikhaylova.
Margot Blanchard, age 18, is a Muggle with the capabilities of a medium. She is calm, intelligent, and American (three things that don't often go together); she's traveled to England to pursue a photography career and also to develop her connection to the "spirit" realm. She’s currently employed by Atlas Caedmon as Rudolph the skeleton’s translator and babysitter. She lives in Diagon Alley and avoids scrutiny by pretending to be a Squib, but she's still learning the wizarding ropes and trying very hard not to be caught, for Atlas's sake.
Wesley Coleman, 50, is...very hard to describe. He's a freelance journalist who likes to write satirical pieces that only he finds the humor in because it either offends people or goes over their heads. His conversation is much the same way; he's a jovial and fun-loving jokester, but his jokes are usually made at the expense of other people.
Agatha Jarvey, dead, is a ghost who haunts Jarvey Estate. I don't think they'll interact, unless you go to the estate very often.
Sioned Baines, 38, is a hit witch. She's been called "incorruptible" among other things, mostly because of her excessively naive and unswerving faith in the fundamental good of humanity. She spent the last sixteen years in the Baltic region staving off clashes between wizards, veela and vampires by hunting down and apprehending instigators and poachers. Her return to England was the result of a letter from her brother, Marcus Baines, regarding the murder of his daughter Judy by politician Edward Garrow. Her current goals include ensuring that Garrow is properly tried and getting the Department of Magical Law enforcement back on its feet.
- - - - -
So obviously I have a lot of characters that are going to interact with Julie. Will, Constance and Sioned all work on Level Two, for example. Will really gets along with everyone, so they can certainly be friends.
Constance...it's pretty much Constance against the whole department. She and Sofia Robards have a very public dislike for each other, and E.B. Braun is an old flame that ended rather awkwardly in the middle of the department one day, etc., etc. Con would probably respect Julie's work ethic and I see them having a good working relationship. One of Will's new projects, however, is to make Constance a functioning member of society; I can maybe see him and Julie teaming up in this? Since Con respects Julie, it would be easier (not easy, but easier) for her to try and get the girl to a party or something. Thoughts?
Sioned and Julie are very similar, so I see them becoming friends now that Sioned's back in England. Julie's interest in espionage is also very connected to Sioned's position as a hit witch. Maybe they can be partners? Do wizarding cops have partners? Haha, I don't know.
While we're on the topic of Level Two, with the direction the plot is headed Level Two is going to be a very tense place in the future. The Head Auror who replaced Harry Potter, Benjamin Astbury, has also disappeared a few months after taking the job. The MLE is catching a lot of flack in the aftermath of Ed Garrow's arrest for not catching on sooner to his plans and being more effective in their investigations, so everyone is stretched a little thin and stretching out. There's not a lot of loyalty left in the department, especially now that a new Head Auror has to be chosen soon. Etc., etc.
As for my other characters, I can't think of any direct plotting right now, but there's always the possibility of them meeting! So if you have any ideas or questions, don't hesitate to say something.
Also sorry for the massiveness of this post. :D
Julie Richmond - March 10, 2009 06:41 PM (GMT)
Thanks for replying, everyone! :) So nice...
But yeah, I'd love to do some Ministry related roleplaying. In strictly work-terms, I was wondering whether some sort of an Auror meeting could be called for (or if there's really been something of the likes already, sorry :)). I mean they could possibly have a lot to talk about, as you say, regarding the fact that people from the Ministry were involved in some really shady business. I dunno, I kind of imagined that perhaps the leadership (what's left of it) might want the Aurors to have a better look at what's going on inside the Ministry. Random thoughts anyway.
And I'd love to do something with Constance and Will. I suppose Julie'd be all eager to grasp any opportunity of forgetting for a while the horrible state everything's in. I'm very inetersted in having her attend some party or concert or something in Muggle London, although if that's not something Constance or Will would go for, any party would do. Possibly trick her into a party under false, work-related pretences? :D
Ooh, I still have to figure out how to structure my vague and various thoughts on plotting.
Sorry all this is vague. I'm kind of sick now and my head seems to be filled with goo...
Margot Blanchard - March 11, 2009 01:04 AM (GMT)
An Auror meeting is actually a good idea. I'ma start that thread tonight.
Also party sounds great! Wizarding or Muggle, it doesn't matter. Will has stayed very connected to the Muggle world because of his mother and two of his siblings, who are all Muggles, and Constance would be more likely to go to a Muggle party anyway because then no one would recognize her.
(PS this is Spiv again.)
Calixtus Ferox - March 11, 2009 01:38 AM (GMT)
Oh! Hi! I'm Sam. Welcome to AG. :)
I have an Auror, too, who'd totally be in on all this--E.B. Braun. All right, so he's a bit of a dim bulb, but he's quite well-intentioned, really. Just... sort of thinks Garrow was innocent. I imagine he'll change his mind. I think an Auror meeting is an excellent idea. Lots has happened, the terrorists are sort of active, we should counteract.
Oh, and I have Cal. That's this one. He invented part of the Fourth Unforgivable and he works for the terrorists, and he's a Squib. Eventually he'll go undercover and work for the Aurors, but it's quite complicated, so, em... you'll see, I guess! ^^
Artemis Sinistra - March 12, 2009 08:34 AM (GMT)
Hi Mary Ann! I'm Arty! Welcome to AG!
I have a few characters but the one that you'll probably be most likely to interact with is Wendell Darrow. He's a bit complicated and it took me three tries to write you a description that wasn't absurdly long!
Wendell was a criminal/auror informant, who loved to flirt with the brunette aurors. But he eventually got arrested by an overzealous auror, and then was broken out of prison by Sofia Robards. He faked his own death and overdosed on polyjuice potion so he now looks semi-permanently like Christain Bale (he didn't know the guy he mugged for his hair was a famous actor). He then pretended to be an american auror and now works in the auror department under the name Dillan Wentworth. He has started dating Sofia w/o telling her he is actually Wendell.
So basically until the Polyjuice Potion wears off (or magic disappears and forces it to wear off) he'll be working along side Julie and the other aurors.
And now for some short descriptions of my other characters...just in case one strikes your fancy.
Artemis Sinistra- Co-owner of Sinistra's Secondhand Shop w/ her brother Apollo. Level-headed, intelligent young woman with a history of terrible dates. Her latest failure was Logan Fletcher (the bloke who invented the fourth unforgiveable).
Elizabeth Darrow- Wendell's sister who got sucked into the Syndicate (mob). She has a short temper that will probably get her killed one of these days. (Probably soon.)
Cecil Banister- My newest character who I haven't actually used yet...but will get around to. Basically he would have been a muggleborn wizard, but his parents were terrified of the wizarding world (think the Dursleys x 10) and locked him up in his room and refused to let him go to Hogwarts. So now he is unstable both mentally and magically, and lives on the streets of Diagon/Knockturn Alley.
Julie Richmond - March 13, 2009 12:02 AM (GMT)
Eee, so many fascinating characters.
To Spiv: I'd love to have Julie go on some mission with Sioned. I suppose Julie's been around in the department for a while, but then again she'd be delighted to work with someone as experienced as Sioned. So yeah, that'd be lovely!
As for the party, I think it might tie in with the whole business of serious meeting and all, in a way, as a kind of relaxation thing.. or I dunno. I mean, it's all getting so serious and changing and all, so perhaps they could do it some time after the meeting or something. Of course, I'll first try to actually involve Julie in it :)
To Sam: Cal seems such a lot of fun. It's sad Julie... well, wouldn't really bump into him much, I suppose. Unless, as you say, we'll see. But I think E.B. and Julie could really get along, him being so positive and all.
To Arty: Hm, just a thought, but I wondered that perhaps Julie and Artemis could meet or something. I mean, Julie has quite the affinity for some aspects of muggle culture and the Sinistras' shop sounds like a place might like, when off duty and being a little less tight :P
Oh, and a general sorry if all this seems haphazard or awkward. I do find myself rather rusty on the whole plotting aspect of roleplaying. Which... well, it's kind of important I realise. :D *wanders off to improve*
Ella Duncan - March 13, 2009 05:47 AM (GMT)
I'm not sure if plotting is such a major thing at other sites... It's been a while since I've been on a site without Spiv and Carmen, so I can't say. We're kind of obsessed with it though B)
