History:
Birth and Childhood
Michael Garrow came from a long line of respected purebloods, and grew up handsome and charming. He began working in the Ministry in the Department of International Magical Cooperation in 1987 at the age of twenty-four. He was sent on assignment to Ireland that year, where he met Saoirse (Seer-sha) Fisher, a dark-haired enchantress whose failing family knew a good thing when they saw it. Saoirse and Michael were engaged the next year.

Their firstborn, Edward Aódhan Garrow, was born July 25th, 1989. He was a happy, spoiled child who was given everything he wanted; what he wasn't given already, he could get with a giggle. Saoirse, eager to keep her husband happy with her and her bankrupt family, taught young Edward that his father was practically god-like. From a young age, Edward strove to emulate his father.

Michael, pleased to be able to show his “shadow” off, never missed an opportunity to bring Edward along to Ministry functions and parties. Little Edward was well-behaved and coy, and soon a favorite of all of Michael's acquaintances. Plans begun to be laid for Edward's future, including his eventual job and marriage.

Schooling
Edward was sorted into Gryffindor upon his arrival at Hogwarts, something that shocked his family but was no suprise to Edward. “Look at it this way, Father,” Edward had written home that night. “No matter how charismatic a Slytherin is, there are always going to be people who don't trust him. With our family name I'll have the Slytherin graduates, and with Gryffindor House I'll have everyone else!”

Gryffindor House turned out to be perfect for Edward. He was compared to both James and Harry Potter: handsome, charming, and talented. He was never lacking in friends; it was rare to see him without at least four people tagging along behind him, laughing at his jokes and telling him how wonderful he was. Needless to say, if Edward had had an ego before, it was humble compared to his behavior during his school years.

His magical skills far exceeded his studying abilities, but he achieved good grades nonetheless in his non-practical classes. His real strength, though, was in his words. Thanks to his young integration in the Ministry, he had a brilliant mind for politics and could talk his way out of or into any situation which pleased him. His summers were spent developing this skill, as well as formally introducing him to the eligible pureblood girls. Edward had little interest in them, though. “I must have a girl as beautiful as Mother,” he said, chuckling with Heads of Department at one Ministry party (he had made sure none of them had daughters before starting on that vein of conversation). “I'm beginning to think I'll have to go back to Ireland to find one!”

Young Adulthood (17-26)
After graduation, Edward went to work at the Ministry. He followed much the same pattern as his father, beginning in the Department of International Magical Cooperation, where his charismatic personality was a great asset. It was during his six years in that department that he became acquainted with a Mr. Cormac MacFealltoir, an Irish Councilman with some very interesting ideas. They formed a friendship that would persist even after Edward's trips to Ireland became less frequent.

At the age of 23, Edward was presented with a proposal from MacFealltoir—his Irish friend invited him to participate in a pureblood marriage program, designed to replenish the pureblood population in Ireland. Edward, set from a young age to have an Irish bride, readily agreed, and returned to Ireland to make his choice. He was drawn to one Ivy Ballantine because she looked like his mother; in a life that had already mimicked his father's, he felt it was only appropriate to continue the glorious trend. He and Ivy were married shortly thereafter, and he moved to Ireland at the request of MacFealltoir.

Ivy was quickly revealed to be a mistake. She was rude, disobedient, and altogether obnoxious. Disgusted with her but unwilling to give her back, Edward took to heavy drinking. He hated the fact that his words, his power, seemed to have little effect on the stubborn Ivy, and as a last resort he became abusive (though, more often than not, Ivy hit him back). When he discovered that his wife was spying for the revolutionaries, he tried to tell the Fearghus what she was doing. The Irish Aurors, however, were too focused on eliminating the known revolutionaries to look into his claims. He made it a habit to relieve Ivy of her wand and lock her up whenever he had the chance.

August 12th, 2013. After a year of disgruntled marriage, Ivy finally disappeared. Edward begins packing up his home, through with Ireland and determined to go back to England. He gets very drunk, breaks half of his possessions, and ends up passing out in the master bedroom. The next morning, he's informed of the Council battle and his wife's death. Disgusted, he continues his packing and goes back to his family home in England. He is restored to his job in the Department of International Magical Cooperation.

The following September Edward received a letter from Georgiana Reed asking him to meet her in Balleygalley, an Irish town similar to Hogsmeade. They discussed the Revolution from a political standpoint and he was briefed on the “official” account of events, from the Irish viewpoint, which he was to share with his colleagues in England. During this meeting, Edward spots Ivy, with an infant of all things—his child. Furious that she is still alive and thus thwarting him, he vows to destroy her. He was forced to do it on his own, though—neither his English friends nor his Irish collaborators believed that she was still alive, simply perhaps because they didn't want to. He took an extended leave from the Ministry and hunted her across the Irish countryside.

The Dark Years (26-28)

After a year of following Ivy, Edward finally caught up to her. While he was unable to kill her, he was able to kidnap their daughter, Kendra. He took her back to England and delivered her to a family friend who will be able to raise her properly in secret. He spent the next two years toying with Ivy, drawing her out with hints as to Kendra's whereabouts but not allowing her to reveal herself by threatening Kendra's life. He no longer hunted his wife, but would occasionally go out looking for her in an almost casual manner.

Meanwhile, he was promoted to Junior Undersecretary of the Ministry at the age of 27, quite an honor. He received it with excessive charm. The eccentricity that had characterized his behavior for the past four years was forgotten by the English; he was everyone's favorite once more, mostly because they were unaware of the level of his involvement in the Irish Revolution.

Cormac MacFealltoir, however, had infected him. The idea of a truly pure wizarding nation was brilliant to him. The Irish had failed, even previous English attempts had failed—which Edward chalked up to the focus of power on an individual rather than on the blood. He began to make comments about purification, sparse enough and vague enough that no alarms were raised, but the idea was planted, and only waited for the sowing.

Presently
Edward is recently turned 29, and the Junior Undersecretary to the Ministry. Being so young and already fourth in line for the position of Minister, one would think he'd have enemies, but no—his charming trustworthy manner prevents all but the most suspicious from suspecting him. He keeps his ears open for information about Ivy, and visits his daughter between Ministry business.
Personality:
  • Charismatic
  • Well-liked
  • Manipulative
  • Selfish
  • Into instant gratification
Outer
Edward (sometimes Ed, never Eddie) has a charming and welcoming demeanor. He's always smiling, telling some joke or another. Being around Edward means having a good time. His charisma draws people in. While his confidence borders on vanity, more often than not it leaves people jealous of his self-assurance. He is friendly; lower-level Ministry grunts like him because he never forgets a face or a name. He is witty and bold, and everyone knows that if there's something that needs to be said Ed Garrow is going to be the one to say it. He is iconic, and when he's spoken of it's in almost reverent terms.

Inner
Edward is a shrewd and observant man. One must be in politics. He reads people well, notices their quirks or discomforts, and exploits them. He views people as connections and sources, rarely as actual people. His true self is decadent and evil; selfish, and indifferent to others. He has a fearsome temper, which he's normally able to control--this control goes out the window when he's drunk, of course. He has a taste for firewhiskey and is also an excessive smoker.

(more later)
Appearance: Handsome, well-groomed, and inviting. He's tall and lean, with pale skin, dark hair and brilliant blue eyes.

  • Kate Derum: A child whom Edward honestly can't stand. However, as a politician it's not in him to allow someone to keep a bad opinion of him if he can do something about it, so he's conned himself into taking her shopping to get back on her good side. [x]
  • Lucia Archer-Chase: An Auror whose bad luck it was to catch Edward in his alcoholism. He plans to implement surveillance on her, determined to keep his secret. [x]
