Title: Hello!

Eleanor Armistead - April 13, 2009 02:15 AM (GMT)

Welcome to After Graduation! Why don't you tell us a little about yourself?

This is no way like giving a speech. Right, my name is Lauren, I live in Australia so this will account for the odd hours I'm on, I'm 23 and I work full-ish time, trying to get enough money together to go travelling for a bit. I've put off studying for a while, but will go back with the intention of becoming an archivist/librarian. I love History - I major in it when I do go to university. I'm mostly incredibly dull outside of that. I love to write - but I suppose that's a given.
We love you already. <3

Now that you've told us about yourself, why don't you tell us about your character? Here's a quick summary sheet to make it easy.

Describe your character in less than a paragraph. Tempermental and immature (given her age, that's probably a given). Eleanor's a muggleborn who has all but given up trying to live in both worlds and prefers the magical world, though neither is entirely safe for her. She loves to fight )hence her profession. Yeesh, that was quick!) and she's passionate and loyal to what she believes in.

What's your posting style like?
Er, it's been a while. I can knock out a decent length post in around half an hour though. Quality is probably more dependent on inspiration, rather than the time given, but I'd say I average around an hour per post. I do tend to get werapped up in internal monologue for my character, but I always go back and make sure there's enough to reply to - I enjoy writing action scenes, and I try not to be repetitive. I'm very reactionary in how I post, I might not start the action, but I love to build off of scenarios.

What sort of plots or roleplays are you interested in? Serious or light? Long-term or short?
I'm a fan of all of the above, I like building long term plots, and am open to anything that comes my way, I don't have set ideas for Eleanor and am well aware that people - and ideas - can change if given the right swing. But, for short term plots, I think these are the ones that help decide who your character is long term, and help me get to know how she will react in the future. I've RPed with Eleanor before, but I'm looking forward to seering where she takes me here.

Eleanor is a fairly...serious character, but no one is ever all vinegar, life has its light moments and she's not such a sour puss that she can't have fun. And I certainly don't mind putting her into awkward situations!

Fantastic! Now I hope you've prepared yourself. You're about to be bombarded with welcomes and thread requests from many wonderful roleplayers.

Constance Fallon - April 13, 2009 02:45 AM (GMT)
Hello again, Lauren. Spiv here. I currently play eleven characters, but since one is a ghost and three are going to die in the next few weeks I'll only give you the relevant ones, haha.

Will Channing, age 25, is the newly appointed Minister of Magic. Whether his appointment is legitimate or just a rushed attempt to fill a plagued position is debatable, but there's no doubt that he's well-liked by the wizarding community. You’d be hard-put to find someone who hated or even disliked Will Channing. He’s friendly, cheerful and generous, always willing to help out anyone who needs it. He’s a great listener and loves hearing out people’s problems, but he has trouble returning the favor and confiding in his friends.

Constance Fallon, age 24, is a no-nonsense Auror. Her world view is very black and white and she has a rude and abrasive sense of humor. Her family was murdered in her seventh year, which is why she became an Auror; she was originally set on becoming a Healer. Con has a heart buried somewhere under all her Scottish temper, but she has very little experience with relationships, platonic or otherwise, and so she has a definite barrier up against certain levels of intimacy, though the men of the world seem to be doing their best to knock them down—like Roscoe Blaine, the ex-stripper she went for an impromptu watery romp with.

Patrick Everard, age 20, is pretty ambitious, coming from a long line of successful criminals. He is a criminal Jack-of-all-trades, but usually works as a middleman for buyers and sellers of artifacts. Regardless, he's very charismatic and a lot of fun, as long as it's playtime and not business time. He has a job at Dervish and Banges but is also sort of an unofficial curse breaker for the Russian Syndicate, a crime mob operating out of Knockturn Alley. He was sort of dragged into it when they caught him smuggling cursed golden artifacts into England without their say-so. He stays because of his intense feelings for the beautiful mob boss, Aleksandra Mikhaylova.

Wesley Coleman, 50, is...very hard to describe. He's a freelance journalist who likes to write satirical pieces that only he finds the humor in because it either offends people or goes over their heads. His conversation is much the same way; he's a jovial and fun-loving jokester, but his jokes are usually made at the expense of other people.

Cecilia Gerhardt, 27, is a Muggle-born Ravenclaw graduate who became famous as a writer of memoirs when she published the life story of wizarding romance novelist Barbara Gibson. Since then she's written four more successful memoirs and is extremely sought after by the vainest of witches and wizards who believe everyone should know their stories. She is a sweet person with very little common sense, and though she knows a lot she isn't really the smartest woman. She is currently experiencing a pre-mid-life crisis, having realized that she's almost thirty and has no idea what she wants from her own life; she's been too busy wrapped up in everyone else's.

For the sake of alleviating any confusion, I also play: Lucy Ballantine, Logan Fletcher, Edward Garrow, Margot Blanchard and Sioned Baines.

Anyway, Lauren will obviously interact with Constance during work and since Will will be stopping by his former department frequently, she'll see him too.

Patrick and Eleanor were in the same House and year at Hogwarts. I can see them sort of having a love-hate relationship. My take on it--he was probably really fond of her in a sibling sort of way. He probably picked on her a lot and picked fights with her playfully. Thoughts?

There's no obvious connection to Wes, Cecilia or any of my other characters, but random meetings always have interesting results, so if you're interested at all I'd be happy to arrange such a meeting. :D

(Sorry for the crazy mind-bogglingly long response.)

Eleanor Armistead - April 13, 2009 04:23 AM (GMT)
Wow - you guys really do roll out the welcome wagon!

I think your suggestions for Pat and Eleanor are great. Of course, he'd always get a rise out of her and end up with a kick in the shins for it.

Pat's involvement with a criminal syndicate - would that be something Eleanor was aware of? Is that something anyone is aware of? Or is it just the elephant in the room that he occasionally has things he can't explain or talk about?

Eleanor certainly wouldn't go running to her bosses to report him - though it could lead to potential awkward situations in her line of work.

Um, yeah. So there's that - as for Will and Constance, I'm sure there'll be opportunity aplenty for them meet during work.

Again, thanks Spiv!

Constance Fallon - April 13, 2009 05:16 AM (GMT)
My inclination is that Eleanor wouldn't know. Patrick is pretty careful; his operations are usually global and he very rarely does business locally. In fact, he's only been back in England for a little less than three months and hasn't done too much in that time except for one incident with a golden statue and using Vanishing Cabinets to rob a French estate. The only characters who know are Aleksandra Mikhaylova, Jasper Christie and Cal Ferox. Constance has some suspicions about his associations mostly because of his family name. Everards are famous for being well-connected, having well-executed plans and being extremely elusive.

Of course, there's no telling what Eleanor might find out in the course of talking to him, haha.

We should definitely do a thread with them! Maybe they go out for a drink for the first time since Pat's return?

Also you're welcome. ;)

Ivy Ballantine - April 13, 2009 05:22 PM (GMT)
Hello Lauren, and welcome to AG! I'm Carmen, one of the co-admin of AG, and I'm ecstatic that you're so enthusiastic about the site. :) I'm almost 21, in college as a Pro Writing major, working on getting a job/getting married and all that nonsense. Life is good, but busy. We're quite used to strange schedules here, haha.

I don't have as many characters to offer because I'm not as insane as Spiv, but I do have a few that will likely interact with Eleanor in the future.

Ivy Ballantine, twentysomething Irish hit witch who's just getting out of a decade long rough patch. She's seen a lot of her loved ones perish in the Irish Blood Wars, and nearly lost herself to a bad marriage. Now she's doing well in England and has changed her world view. Ivy is very spirited and caring, though she's not always the best at showing it. She relates very closely to several of her co-workers and would probably latch onto Eleanor as soon as she arrives, seeing a lot of herself in the girl.

Dermot Ballantine is Ivy's older brother and resident sparkly Stu, recently married to the site Mary Sue, Lucy. He works in the Department of International Law/Foreign Relations on Level 5 and is close with his sister. You'll probably see him around IC at some point.

Carmen Snidgeton, fondly referred to as "the Dragon lady" and "the Snidge," is a very twisted and bitter woman who runs the Daily Prophet. Avoid her at all costs if you value Eleanor's reputation.

Roscoe Blaine is a ridiculously attractive muggle man who refuses to acknowledge his age. He has a different job every few days, and is well known for his indiscriminate sexual adventures. He's a lot of fun and would love to corrupt Eleanor when he weasels his way into the magical world by dating the new Minister of Magic.

I'll also be making an American witch that's close to Eleanor's age in the future, so keep an eye out! Let me know if any of these characters spark interest. :)

Once again, welcome to AG!

Eleanor Armistead - April 24, 2009 07:42 AM (GMT)
I am reaaaaally sorry for the long pause there. It's holidays - which is when I'm busiest incidentally. It won't happen again - I felt slightly silly having to write in the absence thread seeing as I'd only written three posts. None of them play...

Anyway, sorry. Many sorrys.

Spiv - would you like me to start the thread or do you have an idea in mind? I'm good either way, though as I say - a bit rusty at the writing gig.

Carmen - hi! Thanks for the welcome!

Ivy and Eleanor will definitely have some professional interaction. Eleanor's at the start of her career as a hit witch, and I can see a certain amount of...looking for guidance, or tagging along on missions from Ivy. She so desperately wants to prove herself as capable as the next pureblood which is why she went into a more 'active' profession rather than something more of a desk job.

All of your characters sound like great fun - I've never been terribly good at juggling more than a couple - and think you're both quite mad ;). I think I tend to make them all too similar, but I've written a good deal of stocks before. So I might have a bash!

As for The Snidge, well - I'm sure Eleanor will mind it if she's having her reputation dragged through the mud, but there's nothing more fun than torturing your characters really.

I look forward to any threads with your characters. I love a challenge, and if there's any call for a bit part in a plot - just ask, I'm a lot more reliable than my present situation suggests...

Wendell Darrow - April 25, 2009 02:44 PM (GMT)
Hiya! Sorry I've been quite negligent in posting in your intro thread, but then I've been rather swamped as of late! My name is Arty, I'm 21 and a History major.

Wendell Darrow: A well known criminal and police informant he has had a long and twisted relationship with the MLE. He was arrested by Ivy Ballantine, but broke out of prison with the help of Sofia Robards (soon to be made new head of the aurors!). He faked his death and returned as Dillan Wentworth, an american auror. Because who would think to look for him there? Unfortunately the disappearence of magic also disappeared his disguise...so he's about to be revealed and return to his life of crime.

Artemis Sinistra: Arty (24) is one of the Sinistra twins who own Sinistra's Secondhand Shop. She is much more level-headed than her brother Apollo and runs the business aspect of things. She has a terrible history with men, (her most recent bf Logan Fletcher invented the fourth unforgiveable). But generally she gets on well with everyone.

Daphne Honeycutt: Daphne owns Honeycutt's Bakery. She is ridiculously happy all the time, and believes baked goods could solve all of life's problems. This could pose to be a problem as her bakery has been marked by the terrorists (not that she's aware of this...yet).

Elizabeth Darrow: Wendell's younger sister who has been working for the syndicate crime organization as a lacky.

Cecil Banister: My newest character, who hasn't been put into use yet- he's my summer project. He would have been a muggleborn wizard but his parents were so terrified of magic that they faked his death and locked him up in his room for many years. Unable to control his magic he accidentally caused an explosion that injured his parents and brought him back to the attention of the magical world. He now lives as a tramp in the wizarding world.

Considering that Eleanor is a hit-witch in training she has probably already had or will have interaction with Wendell on the job. Elizabeth could also be another possibility. I've hit a bit of a rut with her since some of her associates sadly have disappeared, and she has been sitting around unused for a while. So perhaps Eleanor could investigate her? I'm up for any ideas you may have regarding any of my characters! Welcome to AG!

Julie Richmond - April 25, 2009 03:29 PM (GMT)
Hello! I'm Mary-Ann. I've recently turned 20 and I'm in me first year of studying Semiotics.

I joined about a month ago so I've only got one charrie at the moment - Julie. She's an Auror, so obviously Eleanor and she would meet more than occasionally. Julie's very dedicated to her job and tries hard to do her duty, hoping desperately to be able to keep her job and her personal life well apart. Otherwise, she's quite passionate and lively and likes theatre very much (and that means muggle London!).

Anyway, I'm kind of figuring her out yet anyway. Aside the obvious connection, maybe there's something muggle-world wise that might be a plotting opportunity.

Sofia Robards - April 25, 2009 09:02 PM (GMT)
So sorry its taken me so long to get to your intro thread - I've been off and on again mia for the past couple weeks but come summer I am here about 24/7. Anyway Hi! Welcome! I'm Apollo. I play:

Apollo Sinistra: Artemis' twin brother who pretty much knows everyone, has an obsession with shinny things, is a fashion writer for the daily profit, is going to have a love (or hate depending on who you ask) child with Carmen, has another side life of petty crime (like stealing magic carpets and the crown jewels) and will date about anything with legs and a decent sense of fashion. Even then he'll date if he sees the potential for a makeover. So if you ever need random party boy interaction, random times with a fashion freak, or um well anything can happen with apollo let me know.

Sofia Robards: See the Wendell description since yeah they are pretty much intertwined in most plots. She is about to become department head and about to find out that her perfect boyfriend is the criminal she sprung from jail - major coverups will be running her life. Oh and Ivy hates her guts... due to being a snobby pureblood who is not a terrorist amazingly. So they will have definite work interaction and if she ends up being swooped up by Ivy Sofia won't bother with her till she annoys her or something - get to close to Wendell and she will act though... so any plot ideas you have let me know there - always potential to make the sofia wendell drama more epic!

I also play Zippy Sinistra who is Apollo and Artemis' grandfather, a retired unspeakable that did a lot of work with spirits and ghosts and now talks to his invisible friends and sees things that aren't there. He's always up for bumbling about and making problems, giving cryptic advice, and offering to control his insane grandchildren.

Kelsey Andersson - April 26, 2009 06:48 PM (GMT)
Hey I'm Jemma...

I've currently got two characters here:

Kelsey Andersson: Kelsey is smart, nice, thoughtful, patient, sensitive, and likes to joke around. But when she get’s past her pressure point, she will explodeswith anger. She's ambitious, helpful and caring with it comes to toher people. By nature, Kelsey is an academic. She loves to learn. At times, Kelsey is reminded of her past and then becomes depressed; but this does not happen as much since she worked at Beauxbatons in France for over a year. When it comes to love and romance, she falls in and out of love very quickly, at her age she should be looking for a man to settle down with...but Mr Right has not yet arrived. Kelsey is the youngest of two girls (sister is Mattie Andersson) and is cousin to Nessa and she is currently working on Level Three of the Minsitry as a member of the Accidental Magic Reversal Squad.

Derek D'Ambrosio: Derek is a six foot and 2 & half inches tall guy, with large hazel-green eyes; which any girl could fall right into. He has short, bed-messy brown hair, he doesn't usually use any product unless he is on a date or something. Derek is always clean shaven, unless it is the morning after the night before. Derek is known for his athletic build and is huge smile, even though he is naturally slender, you know that he is strong. He can bench press 290 lbs and deadlift about 300 lbs and also Derek is very fast for his height. Derek has recently had to have glasses, not telling anyone...but he has chosen to have contacts. Derek is a good looking boy, but he has never really believe it. When he was younger he uses to have acne, but due to the wonders of modern medicine his skin is all clear. Derek has a few childhood scars and no holes where there shouldn't be holes. He does have one tattoo of scriptive writing; the word is 'Loyal' and it is on his left wrist. Derek is American and attended Tagetes Academy and graduated in 2014. Derek is currently the Quidditch world Cup Organizer at the Ministry.

Eleanor Armistead - April 27, 2009 06:22 AM (GMT)
Hi Mary-Ann, Arty, Apollo and Jemma! Thanks for the welcome!

Mary-Ann - phew, it's a bit comforting to find someone else who's newish around these parts. I'd love to have a thread with Julie (I love her character face - that actress pops up in the most unusual places). Did she go to Hogwarts? Would they maybe know one another from school? The Muggle connection might be interesting to play with - Eleanor going to want to protect her Muggle family - especially her mother who is Wiccan and very outspoken about it, and will not be safe in her own world. I'd love to incorporate Muggle plots in to Eleanor's story, as I think there's great potential there.

Arty - given Eleanor's new on the job, any potential cases to investigate would be well appreciated. She can be persistently annoying - I assume Elizabeth's name is, if not known directly to authorities, then there's suspicion at least? If not, perhaps Eleanor could stumble upon her doing something nefarious? Could also work for Wendell in that regard - though I'm sure neither of them are careless enough to be caught, and Eleanor's too young to be given an undercover case...hmmmm. She would be dumb enough to try and crack a case by blundering about in Knockturn though.

Apollo - Eleanor's fairly inexperienced with men, being a bit of a tomboy, she had a boyfriend who was more a best friend before it all got a bit much for her when she realised he was keen on them settling down together after school. If you want someone to inadvertantly make trouble for Sofia and Wendell by hitting on him or such-like, I'm game for that. With Arty's permission of course! If Sofia is going to be the new head of Aurors, I imagine Eleanor will have a fair bit of a problem with her authority - it seems like they'd have a personality clash, and I reckon if there was departmental tension, Eleanor would immediately side with Ivy and the Hit Witches (now there's a name for a band), which could be cause for some conflict between them?

Jemma - perhaps Eleanor and Kelsey could be the sort of friends who are opposites, but their personalities compliment each other? Eleanor had thought about going into the department Kelsey's in now and she's sort of shy, and awkward and doesn't know all that many people in the adult world as it is. And the same goes for Derek - sports, espeically quidditch, are utterly baffling to Eleanor. She's not been on a broom since the mandatory classes at Hogwarts, if you'd like for them to have a chance meeting, that would be great!

I have started an open thread in the MoM, Level Two - if anyone would like to reply there, I'd be happy to pick up a thread. Otherwise - if anyone would like a different scenario, I'm up for just about anything!
