AFTER GRADUATION: MYSTERIES OF MAGIC The United Kingdom, 2019
In November of 2018, the Wizarding world was rocked by news of a fourth unforgivable curse, created in the Department of Mysteries as the ultimate power source for an ambitious politician. The curse they created can steal your soul and give the caster complete power over your mind, body, and spirit…the “dementor’s kiss” curse.
Just a few months later, with the great leaders of the wizarding world missing, and corruption rampant within the government, the Ministry is facing an even greater challenge: the imminent collapse of magical society.
FEBRUARY 2019: MAGIC DISAPPEARS FROM THE UNITED KINGDOM For one terrifying and chaotic week, magic disappears from the United Kingdom. Hogwarts is revealed. Diagon Alley is compromised. The muggles, struggling through the most severe depression western society has ever seen, storm the gates of Gringott's. The Ministry of Magic is unable to cope. Terrorists and criminals take advantage of a shattered society.
All that remains of the wizarding world Harry Potter once knew is hope; hope that in spite of all obstacles, magic will prevail. |
Elements- Failure of Magic: The fourth unforgivable curse causes the first ever case of massive magical failure; for about a week everything magical shuts down across the entire United Kingdom, leaving the hidden world of magic open and viewable to muggles. By the time magic returns it is too late. The damage has been done; there's mutiny on the air.
- The Muggle Invasion: When magic disappears for several days following the fourth unforgivable catastrophe, the Statutes of Secrecy are shattered and muggles overrun places like the Ministry of Magic, Diagon Alley, and Hogwarts. The UK is in the middle of the fiercest depression ever to strike the western world; riots occur and muggles raid Gringott's. The revelation is declared a government conspiracy. The muggle governments react with anger and hostility towards the Ministry's failure to follow the Statutes.
- Magical Terrorism: The thriving criminal underworld of the magical community has been getting much darker, strengthened by the chaos within the wizarding world. Double, even triple agents are everywhere and while everyone is trying to make alliances to survive, no one can be trusted.
- Political Turmoil: A power vaccuum has formed due to the arrests of prominent figures like Junior Undersecretary Edward Garrow, the disappearances of Harry Potter and many others, the murder of Minister Shacklebolt, and simple abandonment of the country from the likes of Ron Weasley. The government is on the brink of collapse when magic fails. Politicians are anxious to consolidate power, and each has himself in mind for the most dominant position. Brotherhood and unity are foreign concepts. They must procure strong leaders soon or risk total anarchy.
- The MLE Search: Harry Potter and several other prominent witches and wizards are still missing, many of them presumed dead. The Department of Magical Law Enforcement has reached a breaking point; short-staffed and under-supplied, tension is running high as the line between good and bad is blurred by suspicion within the department.
- Propoganda: The Daily Prophet is going in a new direction...terrorist dragon lady direction. Although The Magic Mirror, a new newspaper, is competing with DP, the Prophet's stranglehold on the news is making the Ministry's task of rebuilding the wizarding UK that much more difficult.
- Life as Usual...?: There are relationships that are destroyed through current events, and relationships that blossom in the new conditions. There are marriages and deaths and break-ups and births. New friendships will be forged, old friendships will be tested, and in the end, everyone will have to make a choice...should they sacrifice their futures for the future of the magical world as a whole?
It's Your Turn! The plot elements listed above are starting points for your own character-integrated plotting. AG highly values collaboration, and the goal is to involve everyone at AG by tying their character into the larger story. Don't be afraid to offer your character as a major part of the plot! We're willing to talk about any ideas you have, anything from love/hate relationships to political conspiracies. Nothing is too small or too large. We want you to be happy with your place in the story.
And with that, post away!

Here's what I have in store:
Lucy: makin' babies. Sought after as a private tutor after Hogwarts is compromised.
Logan: is captured! He finishes the spell for Garrow. When magic explodes he gets VERY ILL and is set up for a long-term stay in St. Mungo's.
Edward: DED. Killed in magic explosion.
Will: reluctantly steps up to the MoM plate. Dates Ross. Catches a lot of flack for being a half-blood dating a Muggle. Tries desperately to repair relations with the Muggle world. Is probably assassinated.
Constance: after further angsting as per usual (pending discussion!), she retires from the MLE!
Patrick: not sure, exactly. Continues doing criminal-y stuff, I'm sure.
Margot: DED. Tortured to death by Shallah in an attempt to get information out of Atlas! Très tragique!
Wesley: takes up his pen on Will's behalf and wages a journalistic war against Carmen through The Magic Mirror!
Sioned: DED. Killed by terrorists after discovering evidence against Shallah.
Cecilia: wants to write Garrow's biography. Hassles Ivy and everyone who knew him.

I'm not sure whether this is percisely the place it belongs, but here's a plot related thought/question: when Hogwarts is discovered, the Aurors would probably be involved in protecting the students (and staff?), rescuing them from the claws of the hideous muggles, right? Or something of that sort... Of course, the MLE would probably swamped with trying to protect *everyone*, including themselves.
As for Julie, I'm still working on figuring out how exactly (besides the obvious Auror things) to involve her.
Sofia Robards - April 15, 2009 12:16 AM (GMT)
Here's what my characters are up to - an unimpressive list after spiv there...
Sofia: She's going to go on a who is Dillan Wentworth hunt while also running the where is Wendell's body hunt asap. Then comes the Dillan/Wendell become one person so both those get solved. Followed by Sofia Wendell angst more than likely. Maybe something with Julie too? She might also get department head? Or deputy head?
Apollo: Glitter and robbery. Writes a couple articles more while Carmen attempts to hex him.
Zippy:Old man wanderings, insightful outlooks on ghosts/spirit world. Can be molded to suit any needs.
Oh and before I forget...Julie Plot meet Sofia Plot... Sofia Plot meet Julie Plot... now feed off of each other. *my brain hurts from to much walking so just know that made sense in my world*
So Julie can (and will if she is Sofia's friend) have some second hand Wendia drama if she wants. i can pm you with more but Arty/Wendell and I are still trying to come up with a way to get the two back together once he becomes his normal charming self. She could be on team talk Sofia into giving the boy another chance or talk her out of whatever drastic measure she comes up with. I dunno. Brainstorm to come soon. Basically feel free to drop anything on the angst bucket I call Sofia - or if you need fluff plot interaction Apollo does one night stands and gets followers for his cultish ways like its no one's business.
Also there will be the hunt for who is Dillan which if you want in on that it can be done. Sofia's got suspicions on her new beau and wants more info.

Ooh, yes, I wanted to talk to you about the Head of MLE business. Will is out of the running obviously and Sioned will be trying to convince the department not to elect her since she's so recently returned, so the Head position is all Sofia's.
Also my plan for Constance is that she will get severely injured in the terrorist attack on Sioned (by the same curse that Dolohov used on Hermione in the Department of Mysteries in book five). She'll be in St. Mungo's for maybe a week. Perhaps Sofia restricts her to desk work? It would give her reason to have yet another breakdown, retire and start her Healer training, and it would also give Ross a reason to connect to her. Thoughts, yes?

A new year! A new plot! Huzzah!
Wendell D.: At the start of the week without magic, Wendell will turn back into himself and all heck will break loose. Much Wendia angst will probably ensue, but the most important outcome is that Wendell will return to his life of crime! YAY!! (This also means he can actually RP with people new/old now!) I'm assuming in the general chaos of the week without magic, his actions will be lost in the shuffle. Well...that and the fact that one of his best friends is Minister of Magic... Will Carmen dig up this fact?
Arty S.: Arty will be deeply concerned by the loss of magic, but she'll get through it fairly well since she knows a lot about muggles anyway. She will reconcile with the hospitalized Logan, and return to her initial bubbly self.
Daphne H.: Daphne's shop will be attacked and destroyed by the terrorist organizations. After a brief bout of depression (and when I say depression...this is relative to her usual level of HAPPY, she'll probably just be moderately amiable for a while) she will get to work on rebuilding her bakery and her life.
Elizabeth D.: A fall out with the Syndicate, and a couple run ins with the law, will put her liberty and her life in jeopardy. My bet is she doesn't live to see 2020.
Cecil B.: As yet unused and without plot. This creepy little man will make an appearence in 2019.

Well, apparently school's inspiring. Here's some what I've come up with Julie:
In general, I think it's going to be a progression from relatively happy to very much miserable. So for a while I'm thinking I'd even want her to be quite chipper and satisfied with things, but then...
Anyway, the actual things. I'd really-really want to have her do some mad undercover, wild infiltrating, false identities crazy dangerous kind of job. With the criminals or terrorist. Preferably she would be alive coming out of it :) So, I'd love to hear what the criminal charries think of this - like how far she might go, which ends to start with, who to get close with or any that sort of idea. I think this might be a long term sort of plot, perhaps.
Also, possibly some family strife. Julie's mother is rather good at herbology, so maybe some sort of plotline with terrorists kidnapping for supplies or something of the sort. It would be especially sweet if it was a consequence of the MLE (and Julie could be involved personally) tracking down and eliminating some of their usual sources. *twisted*
And somewhere in there some serious job related mess-up. Personal life related mess-up quite possible too.
Mm, Apollo, that was really cryptic. But I'm sure Julie would be quite ready to assist Sophia both in the hunt phases and in the team reconciliation matters. If they find out Dillan's actually Wendell and currently in the midst of Aurors, I'm sure it would be a nice, stout moral issue for her choosing between duty to the job and duty to Sophia, whom I think she would really rather see happy with Dillan/Wendell. And if the whole infiltration madness works out, I'm sure she'd have some questions to ask Dillan about Polyjuice potion along the way.
Roscoe Blaine - April 26, 2009 03:46 PM (GMT)
Carmen's charries!
Ivy Ballantine: Does the typical Ivy thing and gets involved in another giant mess via the Ministry.
Derry Ballantine: Feels obliged to help England in their time of need in spite of his and Lucy's plans for a peaceful sparkly life together.
Carmen Snidgeton: Terrorizes every living creature. Especially Apollo, whom she will kill at some point and whose son she will abandon on Arty's doorstep.
Roscoe Blaine: Finds out he has an illegitimate son, feels bad because of Constance's injuries, and eventually grows a slight conscience.
...Wow, is that it? I seriously need to get my new character up.
For Julie's plan, Ivy is completely willing to be involved. Especially if it also involves Dr. Dillan, Mr. Darrow. ;)
Carmen has some slanderous articles to write about the new Minister. If she could include the Wendell tidbit that would be fantastic. So not only is he--*gasp*--gay and therefore incompetent, he has a male muggle lover and is friends with well-known criminals! Oh, how shocking!
Kelsey Andersson - May 1, 2009 04:35 PM (GMT)
I want to get involved more...
Kelsey: as she is on the Accidental Squad...what about an outbreak of accidental magic...either in London or somewhere else in the UK???
Derek: he needs something exciting to happen...I'm up for anything - under a spell or something??
What do you think? Please, I want to get involved!!!
