Title: Enormous Character Questionnaire
Description: 100 questions. Seriously.

Calixtus Ferox - May 3, 2009 03:40 PM (GMT)
I got this from another site I'm on, Remnants of the Earth (yes, I believe in RP bigamy). Anyway, I found it a fantastic character-building resource. In one case, I filled it out with two series of answers--how the character would answer if he knew people would read it, and how he'd answer privately. It's a fantastic character-building exercise if you get really into it... I found it actually psychologically draining, but in a good way. And just fun. And helpful for character history.

I hope you guys take a stab, I'd love to see how some of the AG characters would reply to this.

Here it is:

Ivy Ballantine - May 3, 2009 07:34 PM (GMT)
BIGAMIST!!!1!

Nah, just kidding. I've filled out forms like this for the Ballantines before. They're so developed at this point that they're not hard to write about, haha. Here's what Ivy's would look like...

QUOTE

Part 1: The Basics

1. What is your full name?
Ivy Dervila Ballantine.

2. Where and when were you born?
I was born at home on Inis Meain, in the early hours of October seventh. I was a breech baby.

3. Who are/were your parents? (Know their names, occupations, personalities, etc.)
Conn Ballantine, me da, was a fisherman and more bullheaded than I was. He was very tight laced and stoic, a disciplinarian. Ma, Viveca Graham, stayed at home to take care of us, though I always suspected that she would have preferred to spend her adult years flitting from social event to social event in Dublin. She did her best to make sure we grew up well in spite of her weaknesses.

4. Do you have any siblings? What are/were they like?
I had seven, now I have four. Felicity is the oldest, she was always the mothering responsible type. She lives in America with her husband and kids. Joselee was next. She was the smartest, and she died in the blood wars. Then there's Derry, the oldest boy, and he feels like he has to be the hero in every flipping situation. The pain in the arse is more or less perfect. Then there's Bernie, and she's nearly as nice as Derry, though she's prettier because she's a blonde. Then there's me. Harry is after me. Always tried to live up to his older siblings in one way or another. He married Caroline Everard and lives in America with the kids, near to where Felicity is. Little Kenny and Mikey were tortured to death before they made it to school. Kenny was the most like me. Mikey was just...young.

5. Where do you live now, and with whom? Describe the place and the person/people.
I'm in a flat in Rowling Terrace, with my daughter and dog. It's a little place, and it either looks like a disaster area or has two dozen people going in and out.

6. What is your occupation?
Hit witch. Yes, yes, I'm one of those 'BHL' women.

7. Write a full physical description of yourself. You might want to consider factors such as: height, weight, race, hair and eye color, style of dress, and any tattoos, scars, or distinguishing marks.
I look like ma, like a Graham. Average height, round face and curvy frame, windchapped cheeks, dark hair (thanks Jayden) and eyes, the Ballantine smile.

8. To which social class do you belong?
I was very lower class growing up, but now I'm upper middle.

9. Do you have any allergies, diseases, or other physical weaknesses?
My personality is a physical weakness.

10. Are you right- or left-handed?
Right.

11. What does your voice sound like?
Bright and frequently loud, but pleasant enough.

12. What words and/or phrases do you use very frequently?
Lots of cursing.

13. What do you have in your pockets?
If you're so interested why don't you reach in and find out?

14. Do you have any quirks, strange mannerisms, annoying habits, or other defining characteristics?
Jayden wrote this exam, didn't he? Fricking can't-let-a-grudge-go psychoanalyst. Let's see. I toss my hair a lot, I smile constantly, even when it's utterly inappropriate, I'm always on the move, twirl my wand a lot. It's hard for me to hold still. I gesticulate like an Italian. I eat too fast. I touch people without thinking about their personal space. I talk like a woman plagued with a chattering jinx.

Part 2: Growing Up

15. How would you describe your childhood in general?
Cold and wet.

16. What is your earliest memory?
Shattering all the glass in the kitchen when Joselee wouldn't let me have a cookie.

17. How much schooling have you had?
Merlin, I was being tutored by my grandparents at the age of six and the schooling didn't end until I was...nineteen, twenty.

18. Did you enjoy school?
Yes, except for the classes bit.

19. Where did you learn most of your skills and other abilities?
My family.

20. While growing up, did you have any role models? If so, describe them.
My granda, of course. Cursin' Kenny. Kennedy Graham, the famed Irish hit wizard and head of the Irish Garda Department. He did for Ireland what Harry Potter did for England.

21. While growing up, how did you get along with the other members of your family?
I was a little terror. I loved all of them but I drove them completely mad.

22. As a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?
I never really thought about it as a child, honestly. The hit witch thing just came to me naturally, and it was what my country needed at the time.

23. As a child, what were your favorite activities?
Swimming. Flying. Fighting. Quidditch and Aingingein.

24. As a child, what kinds of personality traits did you display?
The same ones that I have now. What sort of exam is this anyways?

25. As a child, were you popular?
Not until I grew boobs.

26. When and with whom was your first kiss?
Some boy in the common area, can't remember his name.

27. Are you a virgin?
Ask my daughter.

28. If you are a supernatural being (i.e. mage, werewolf, vampire), tell the story of how you became what you are or first learned of your own abilities. If you are just a normal human, describe any influences in your past that led you to do the things you do today.
Everything I've done has been for my family.

Part 3: Past Influences

29. What do you consider the most important event of your life so far?
Having Kendra.

30. Who has had the most influence on you?
This is harder. Da, probably.

31. What do you consider your greatest achievement?
Surviving through everything to raise my daughter.

32. What is your greatest regret?
That Man.

33. What is the most evil thing you have ever done?
I don't regret anything I've ever done.
Alright, that's a lie. I regret not showing my love to those who died in the Irish blood wars more frequently. I regret what an arse I was to certain people during my school years. I regret not making smarter decisions as I was growing up.
I guess none of that's really evil, but I feel like I need forgiveness for it.

34. Do you have a criminal record of any kind?
I have several criminal records in my desk at this very moment.

35. When was the time you were the most frightened?
When I was locked away without my wand, battered, pregnant, my granda was dead, and I didn't know what was going to happen to me or those that were still alive.

36. What is the most embarrassing thing ever to happen to you?
Embarassed? Me? Ha! *tosses hair*

37. If you could change one thing from your past, what would it be, and why?
Please don't ask me this.

38. What is your best memory?
Well, there's something very nostalgic about looking back on my childhood now. After the war, the poverty I grew up in seems almost like a blessing, a protection we had. My most recent best memory is my acquittal at the trial and being FREE.

39. What is your worst memory?
The council blood bath and the days immediately following it.

Part 4: Beliefs And Opinions

40. Are you basically optimistic or pessimistic?
Optimistic, always.

41. What is your greatest fear?
Losing loved ones.

42. What are your religious views?
I'm certain there's something Greater out there...I've felt it...but Merlin only knows if it cares for me.

43. What are your political views?
The Irish must be free, and criminals must die or face strict punishment for their actions.

44. What are your views on sex?
I don't exactly have fond memories of the act. There is nothing more despicable than not being in control of one's sexuality.

45. Are you able to kill? Under what circumstances do you find killing to be acceptable or unacceptable?
The minute someone harms or tries to harm the people I love, I'm able to kill. I tend to take all criminal acts personally.

46. In your opinion, what is the most evil thing any human being could do?
Any selfish crime.

47. Do you believe in the existence of soul mates and/or true love?
I'm not sure. I feel like there are a lot of things that could get in the way of true love and make it not so true after all.

48. What do you believe makes a successful life?
Living to tell the tale to grandchildren.

49. How honest are you about your thoughts and feelings (i.e. do you hide your true self from others, and in what way)?
Overall I'm a very honest person, but in a few areas I'm extremely private.

50. Do you have any biases or prejudices?
Me? No! Of course not! Don't be ridiculous.
(An English Seirbhe probably wrote that question, since it's so stupid._

51. Is there anything you absolutely refuse to do under any circumstances? Why do you refuse to do it?
I refuse to break.

52. Who or what, if anything, would you die for (or otherwise go to extremes for)?
I'd die for my daughter.

Part 5: Relationships With Others

53. In general, how do you treat others (politely, rudely, by keeping them at a distance, etc.)? Does your treatment of them change depending on how well you know them, and if so, how?
I'm a friendly person up until the point you prove yourself otherwise.

54. Who is the most important person in your life, and why?
My Kendra kept me alive when I needed help the most.

55. Who is the person you respect the most, and why?
This is a bit hard to admit, but I do greatly respect Jayden for helping me in spite of the way I've treated him in the past.

56. Who are your friends? Do you have a best friend? Describe these people.
My brothers and sisters are the greatest friends I could ask for, and some of my coworkers and old schoolmates are great friends as well.

57. Do you have a spouse or significant other? If so, describe this person.
Right now, I more or less feel dead to romance. No spouse or significant other.

58. Have you ever been in love? If so, describe what happened.
What do you mean, 'in love?'

59. What do you look for in a potential lover?
Decency and a sense of humor.

60. How close are you to your family?
Very. For a few years I was disconnected from them almost completely, but I have recently made an effort to repair those bonds.

61. Have you started your own family? If so, describe them. If not, do you want to? Why or why not?
I have Kendra and she's my family. And the dog, Bear. There are times when it's lonely, and I wish I had more children and a husband to fill up the house, but at the same time I'm still healing. I'm emotionally exhausted and need time. To heal.

62. Who would you turn to if you were in desperate need of help?
Bram. I hate turning to my family for help, and he has proven himself worthy of trust, even if he is a sneaking Seirbhe who can't cook a potato properly.

63. Do you trust anyone to protect you? Who, and why?
People die. I trust myself to protect myself, and even that's a bit iffy.

64. If you died or went missing, who would miss you?
You know, I'd fancy that everyone who's known me would miss me, because they'd realize they no longer have the charmingly chaotic Ballantine to make their days interesting.

65. Who is the person you despise the most, and why?
Edward Garrow, for personal reasons.

66. Do you tend to argue with people, or avoid conflict?
I'm Irish. I love to argue.

67. Do you tend to take on leadership roles in social situations?
Yes.

68. Do you like interacting with large groups of people? Why or why not?
I LOVE large groups of people. It's so easy to infect groups with a party atmosphere, and have something interesting happen.

69. Do you care what others think of you?
No. But secretly, yes.

Part 6: Likes And Dislikes

70. What is/are your favorite hobbies and pastimes?
Sports, parties, general chances to get together, and dueling.

71. What is your most treasured possession?
Kendra.

72. What is your favorite color?
Red.

73. What is your favorite food?
Coffee.

74. What, if anything, do you like to read?
The most reading I do is reports.

75. What is your idea of good entertainment (consider music, movies, art, etc.)?
People are the greatest entertainment.

76. Do you smoke, drink, or use drugs? If so, why? Do you want to quit?
I'm a social drinker.

77. How do you spend a typical Saturday night?
Nothing fancy, I'm either at home with Kendra, visiting with family, or cleansing the streets of London from its scum.

78. What makes you laugh?
The antics of my daughter, the way Jayden talks, Derry and Harry's expressions whenever their wives do something unexpected.

79. What, if anything, shocks or offends you?
Nothing shocks me.

GOOD GOD, WHAT DID HE SAY?!

80. What would you do if you had insomnia and had to find something to do to amuse yourself?
It would probably be something utterly ridiculous. Last week I couldn't sleep and insisted on knitting a sweater for Bear, with wool I collected myself. The sheep weren't too pleased about it.

81. How do you deal with stress?
Maiming criminals, shouting at Jayden, dueling. All the healthy methods.

82. Are you spontaneous, or do you always need to have a plan?
Spontaneity is my figurative middle name.

83. What are your pet peeves?
Indecision, sullenness, people who are excessively vain about their appearance. Delicate, quiet people bother me.

Part 7: Self Images And Etc.

84. Describe the routine of a normal day for you. How do you feel when this routine is disrupted?
I wake up, make breakfast, wash my face and dress, leave Kenny with gran or Lucy, and go to work.

85. What is your greatest strength as a person?
Fortitude.

86. What is your greatest weakness?
Fortitude.

87. If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?
My inability to think through all the options and weigh them in a logical manner.

88. Are you generally introverted or extroverted?
Extroverted! Didn't the rest of this survey clue you in?

89. Are you generally organized or messy?
Mostly messy.

90. Name three things you consider yourself to be very good at, and three things you consider yourself to be very bad at.
1-Defensive magic vs. Healing magic
2-Talking vs. being quiet.
3-Doing my job vs. stepping on toes.

91. Do you like yourself?
I suppose.

92. What are your reasons for being an adventurer (or doing the strange and heroic things that RPG characters do)? Are your real reasons for doing this different than the ones you tell people in public? (If so, detail both sets of reasons...)
Look, whatever higher being is out there simply likes to see me struggle, but I prove to Carmen I'm stronger with every obstacle the arse throws at me.

93. What goal do you most want to accomplish in your lifetime?
Live in peace, with myself and the past.

94. Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
Maeve only knows!

95. If you could choose, how would you want to die?
For the good of someone else. Dying is such a lazy, wasteful thing, might as well make it worthwhile.

96. If you knew you were going to die in 24 hours, name three things you would do in the time you had left.
First, I would make sure that everything I own is left to Kendra. Secondly, I would see my siblings and mother and tell them I love them. Thirdly, I would...I have no idea what I would do next.

97. What is the one thing for which you would most like to be remembered after your death?
Serving my country and family well.

98. What three words best describe your personality?
Bright, proud, outgoing.

99. What three words would others probably use to describe you?
Loud, unpredictable, unforgettable.

100. If you could, what advice would you, the player, give to your character? (You might even want to speak as if he or she were sitting right here in front of you, and use proper tone so he or she might heed your advice...)
"Ivy. You say you want to live a good peaceful life but you make absolutely no attempt to do so. I don't want you to die an early death, and that doesn't happen with most of my characters! Why then, do you insist on being...so...well...you? Please. You need to mellow out at some point. For the sake of your daughter. For the sake of Bram. And don't give me any crap about how you don't have feelings for him. Marry him, have babies, and be happy."

Mmkay Sam, it's your turn. I'm dying to hear Cal's answers. :P
