Title: Mysteries Of The Deep
Description: one-shot

Bob Choeke - May 17, 2009 10:06 AM (GMT)
Bob clenched his jaw down and swallowed hard as yet another bout of nausea threatened to overwhelm him. The trick, as always, was to maintain his head in line with his body and imagine that the swirling vista was moving and that he himself was stationary. It didn't always work as the rank smell of sour bile reminded him.

He was floating in the middle of the perfectly spherical Chamber of Infinite Astronomy as he tried to track down an orbital anomoly which was affecting the accuracy of some tea-slurping Ministry worker's predictions. He hated inter-departmental requests as they tended to be a waste of time, but was doubly irritable as this particular one was actually important and therefore obliged him to spend time in a place with no up and down - never a good thing for either his stomach or his semi-digested breakfast.

Squinting his eyes, he momentarily forgot his discomfort as he zeroed in on his prime suspect. The gargantuan gas giant of Jupiter was always under suspicion as it had so many moons, moonlets and debris in orbit that any discrepancies from the cyrstal ball brigade could usually be tracked down to this region. The whirlpool of stars stopped moving as the planet rapidly expanded to fill half of his field of vision.

"There!" he half-grunted and half-sighed in satisfaction. Themisto was acting up again. So irregular in its orbit that the Muggle astronomers had lost it's location between 1975 and 2000, it was responsible for half the problems generated by Jupiter. It was small, but enough to cause the already wobbly discipline of precognition to devolve into farce. He would establish the new orbit and amend the charts accordingly before getting back to his personal projects.

Well, he would do all of that after changing his robes. A Scourgify never really got rid of the smell of vomit, after all.
