Title: Oh, These Things Are So Fun...[/sarcasm]
Fletcher Parish - May 25, 2009 04:55 AM (GMT)
Welcome to After Graduation! Why don't you tell us a little about yourself?
Because I'm an incredibly boring and uninteresting person and you don't want to get to know me. Okay, seriously now. You can call me Bre; it's short for Bronwyn (well, kinda). I'm a college junior (or will be in August) and I'll be twenty in October. Falling back on my standard introduction (which I actually originally wrote for a Secret Santa game when the question asked was "Who are you?")...I am a geek, an obsessive reader, a New Yorker by birth, a Virginian by the infinite wisdom of the US Navy. I am a slightly overweight individual who likes wolves, Broadway musicals, and bizarre mixes of country and oldies music. I do my best to be honest, to be fair, to help where I am needed, to be cheerful, to be friendly and considerate, to be a sister to those around me, to respect authority, to use resources wisely, to protect and improve the world around me, and to show respect for myself and others through my words and actions. I am a singer, a flautist, a writer, a United Methodist, and a child of God.
We love you already. <3
Now that you've told us about yourself, why don't you tell us about your character? Here's a quick summary sheet to make it easy.
Describe your character in less than a paragraph. Fletcher is a history nerd. One could almost dismiss him as an old codger permanently stuck in the days of his childhood, except that a.) he's been like that since he was a boy and b.) he doesn't act like an old man. He joined the
Prophet in 1960 and, except for 1994-1995 when he resigned in protest over the articles Rita Skeeter was writing about Harry Potter (his oldest son was only a couple of years younger than James, and was also an Auror), he has worked there ever since. He used to run a feature called "This Day in History", but in recent years he has stopped that and now sticks to archiving the paper. He's loyal, especially to the military and the Auror's department, and insulting either in his presence makes him extremely annoyed. (Have I exceeded my less-than-a-paragraph limit yet?)
What's your posting style like? Verbose. I don't like one-liners and I'm not too fond of short, stubby paragraphs. Usually I end up with about fifteen well-thought out sentences; if stuck for something to write about, I'll have my character wander off into a memory or relate the conversation to a book they read in fourth grade or something.
What sort of plots or roleplays are you interested in? Serious or light? Long-term or short? I don't care about the tone--serious ones are more fun to write, but I like light ones occasionally--but I do like longer-term roleplays. I really hate threads that start out promising and then die out after only a couple of posts.
Fantastic! Now I hope you've prepared yourself. You're about to be bombarded with welcomes and thread requests from many wonderful roleplayers.
Tusen tak! I look forward to RPing with people. ^_^

You just described me IRL. Except I'm far more a singer now than I ever was a flautist. Welcome to AG, Bre! Great introduction. It's always good to know a bit about the new members. :) I have several characters to offer you, the most important of which is the Snidge.
Carmen Snidgeton is the Editor-in-Chief and is jokingly referred to as "Dragon Lady." Basically she's an awful human being who hates everyone and finds joy in ruining people's lives. She uses the DP as her vehicle for power trips and her favored means of inflicting misery, pain, and suffering on the lives of anyone and everyone. She is indiscriminately cruel. She especially hates Apollo Sinistra, the man who impregnated her. Because of Fletcher's loyalty to Level 2 I can see him and Carmen clashing a lot, with her trying to get him out of the Prophet.
As a member of the Prophet, you are welcome to start your own thread in the DP forum in which to post any articles you write. :)
Ivy Ballantine is another character you may interact with. She's a spirited Irish hit witch with a troubled past. Since she's on L2 and Parish has connections there, we may thread with them at some point.
If you have any thread ideas, I'd love to hear them! I think I'm going to post an open DP meeting thread soon so keep an eye out. Once again, welcome to AG!
Lola Davis - May 26, 2009 05:08 PM (GMT)
Hi Bre! I'm a 21 year old history major, and around AG I go by the name of Arty. Welcome, I hope you grow to love it as much as the rest of us do! So I have quite a few characters around hopefully Fletcher will get along with (or despise) one of them!
Artemis Sinistra- Artyis and her twin brother Apollo jointly run Sinistra's Secondhand Shop. Arty was also involved in a relationship with Logan Fletcher the unspeakable to created the fourth unforgiveable. He's been trying to repair things...and it's moving along slowly. She also has a quirky grandfather around Fletcher's age (Apollo will probably contact you about him).
Wendell Darrow- He was a petty criminal who ended up breaking out of prison. He took polyjuice potion (that made him look like batman!) and went undercover as an american auror. However, when magic disappeared for a week his cover was blown. It ruined his relationship with his girlfriend (Sofia Robards -> head of the auror dept) and now he's trying to regain his normal life.
Daphne Honeycutt- A muggleborn who runs a popular bakery in Diagon Alley. She is ridiculously cheery all the time (to the point of being a bit annoying), and believes baked goods can solve all the world's problems. She has been targeted by the terrorists and will be the victim of one of their attacks in the near future.
Cecil Banister- Born to muggle parents that make the Dursley's look accepting he was locked up in his room when he recieved his Hogwarts letter. He was forced to be a prisoner in his own house for fifteen years before he accidentally caused an explosion which brought him to the attention of magical authorites. He was placed in St. Mungo's but was eventually released and now he's a tramp in Diagon Alley.
Lola Davis- She's the gossip columnist for the Daily Prophet. She likes to party and gossip. She's a bit like a less severe version of Carmen Snidgeton.
So it is likely that he will know Lola since she also works at the Daily Prophet but they don't have a whole lot in common. I really think he would get along with Zippy Sinistra who is played by the author of Apollo. Since Arty is his grandaughter I imagine he could concievably know her as well and he's far more likely to get along with her. She's accustomed to dealing with quirky old people!
Let me know what you think, or if your interested in interacting with these or any of the other characters!
Jasper Christie - May 26, 2009 06:25 PM (GMT)
Hi Bre! I'm Caroline, music elitist, Anglophile, and practically compulsive shopper. Also an English lit major. Welcome to AG!
Jasper Christie is the character you'll see me playing most often. He ostensibly owns a jewelry shop, but it's a cover for his criminal activity, which mainly consists of counterfeiting and black marketeering. He's an extreme extrovert and has a gift for transfiguration and no respect for legality. In his free time, he shops for absurdly high end clothes and sleeps around with most of the models in London. Lately he's been drawn into the fringes of Garrow and Shallah Kosa's plotting by his mad scientist boyfriend, Cal, and childhood friend Atlas and feels like he's in over his head. I'm not sure how he and Fletcher would interact, but he's a tabloid staple for the Prophet (Carmen loathes him) and will be even more when he starts a rebound relationship with Sofia Robards once he dumps Cal. He also steals a lot of old stuff, and Fletcher likes old stuff...haha that one is kind of a stretch, so let me know if you've got any better ideas.
I also have but very rarely play Peter Shaw, a Cambridge student who is nominally a wizard but is so terrible at magic that he's a borderline Squib. So far he hasn't done much besides beg his way into a position as Cal's assistant, but he's comically optimistic and innocent-- basically Jasper's polar opposite.
Kelsey Andersson - May 26, 2009 06:34 PM (GMT)
Hey I'm Jemma...
I've currently got two characters here:
Kelsey Andersson: Kelsey is smart, nice, thoughtful, patient, sensitive, and likes to joke around. But when she get’s past her pressure point, she will explodeswith anger. She's ambitious, helpful and caring with it comes to toher people. By nature, Kelsey is an academic. She loves to learn. At times, Kelsey is reminded of her past and then becomes depressed; but this does not happen as much since she worked at Beauxbatons in France for over a year. When it comes to love and romance, she falls in and out of love very quickly, at her age she should be looking for a man to settle down with...but Mr Right has not yet arrived. Kelsey is the youngest of two girls (sister is Mattie Andersson) and is cousin to Nessa and she is currently working on Level Three of the Minsitry as a member of the Accidental Magic Reversal Squad.
Derek D'Ambrosio: Derek is a six foot and 2 & half inches tall guy, with large hazel-green eyes; which any girl could fall right into. He has short, bed-messy brown hair, he doesn't usually use any product unless he is on a date or something. Derek is always clean shaven, unless it is the morning after the night before. Derek is known for his athletic build and is huge smile, even though he is naturally slender, you know that he is strong. He can bench press 290 lbs and deadlift about 300 lbs and also Derek is very fast for his height. Derek has recently had to have glasses, not telling anyone...but he has chosen to have contacts. Derek is a good looking boy, but he has never really believe it. When he was younger he uses to have acne, but due to the wonders of modern medicine his skin is all clear. Derek has a few childhood scars and no holes where there shouldn't be holes. He does have one tattoo of scriptive writing; the word is 'Loyal' and it is on his left wrist. Derek is American and attended Tagetes Academy and graduated in 2014. Derek is currently the Quidditch world Cup Organizer at the Ministry.
Will Channing - May 26, 2009 06:57 PM (GMT)
Hullo, Bre! I'm Spiv, one of the site co-admin and I have many, many characters.
Lucy Ballantine, age 29. Her husband is Dermot Ballantine, a legislator for the Department of International Magical Cooperation. She is an Irish Muggle-born and a former Free Blood revolutionary who teaches Muggle Studies at Hogwarts. Having already had plenty of “adventures” and life experiences in her youth, all Lucy really wants to do now is settle down with Derry and have oodles of children.
Logan Fletcher, age 26, is a former Unspeakable now looking for employment in the private sector; his brilliance makes him cynical of the menial life he now lives. He developed the Fourth Unforgivable, but was released in exchange for his testimony against Edward Garrow, who commissioned the spell from him. For months Logan had ignored the moral consequences of a curse that steals someone’s soul; when he met Artemis Sinistra, she awakened a new side of him, a side that saw ethical right and wrong, instead of just intellectual right and wrong. Though Logan is still in love with her, he doesn’t have high hopes for a relationship in the aftermath of the trial.
Will Channing, age 25, is the newly appointed Minister of Magic. Whether his appointment is legitimate or just a rushed attempt to fill a plagued position is debatable, but there's no doubt that he's well-liked by the wizarding community. You’d be hard-put to find someone who hated or even disliked Will Channing. He’s friendly, cheerful and generous, always willing to help out anyone who needs it. He’s a great listener and loves hearing out people’s problems, but he has trouble returning the favor and confiding in his friends.
Constance Fallon, age 24, is a no-nonsense Auror. Her world view is very black and white and she has a rude and abrasive sense of humor. Her family was murdered in her seventh year, which is why she became an Auror; she was originally set on becoming a Healer. Con has a heart buried somewhere under all her Scottish temper, but she has very little experience with relationships, platonic or otherwise, and so she has a definite barrier up against certain levels of intimacy, though the men of the world seem to be doing their best to knock them down—like Roscoe Blaine, the ex-stripper she went for an impromptu watery romp with.
Patrick Everard, age 21, is pretty ambitious, coming from a long line of successful criminals. He is a criminal Jack-of-all-trades, but usually works as a middleman for buyers and sellers of artifacts. Regardless, he's very charismatic and a lot of fun, as long as it's playtime and not business time. He has a job at Dervish and Banges but is also sort of an unofficial curse breaker for the Russian Syndicate, a crime mob operating out of Knockturn Alley. He was sort of dragged into it when they caught him smuggling cursed golden artifacts into England without their say-so. He stays because of his intense feelings for the beautiful mob boss, Aleksandra Mikhaylova.
Wesley Coleman, 50, is...very hard to describe. He's a freelance journalist who likes to write satirical pieces that only he finds the humor in because it either offends people or goes over their heads. His conversation is much the same way; he's a jovial and fun-loving jokester, but his jokes are usually made at the expense of other people.
Cecilia Gerhardt, 27, is a Muggle-born Ravenclaw graduate who became famous as a writer of memoirs when she published the life story of wizarding romance novelist Barbara Gibson. Since then she's written four more successful memoirs and is extremely sought after by the vainest of witches and wizards who believe everyone should know their stories. She is a sweet person with very little common sense, and though she knows a lot she isn't really the smartest woman. She is currently experiencing a pre-mid-life crisis, having realized that she's almost thirty and has no idea what she wants from her own life; she's been too busy wrapped up in everyone else's.
- - - - -
Lucy is a sparkly perfect Sue and really boring to play, so I generally don't use her very much.
Though they're both dedicated to the facts, Logan is far more scientific than Fletcher. Still, I feel like they'd understand each other if they ever met. In fact, my young, cynical scientist could probably learn a lot from Fletcher. (It's obviously meant to be, with "Fletcher" being in both their names! ;] ) Let me know if you'd be interested in some kind of mentor-student relationship.
Poor Will, haha. Will probably won't get out of the Ministry very often, so there won't be much opportunity for interaction there--unless, of course, he sneaks off and tries to hide in the DP archives, which could actually be pretty hilarious. Dear Connie has some plot coming up: she'll be severely injured and limited to desk work, which will lead her to resign from the MLE and pursue her original career path, that of a Healer. I doubt she'll easily cross paths with Fletcher.
Patrick...I actually have no idea what I'm doing with Patrick these days. Something criminal, probably.
Wesley! Oh, Wesley. He's going to be waging a journalistic war on Carmen Snidgeton on behalf of Will Channing. The Snidge will be writing slanderous articles about the new Minister of Magic, who is in her opinion "too young and too homosexual" to be a good leader. Wesley will be taking up Will's defense through a rival paper, though he won't be doing it out of any love for the man--his goal will only be to annoy Carmen. How would Fletcher feel about all that business? I understand Fletcher is loyal to Level 2, and Will was formerly an Auror who almost became Head of Department. I could see Wesley trying to enlist Fletcher's help in sabotaging the DP, if he was willing.
Annnnd Cecilia. Cecilia will almost certainly try to seek Fletcher out. She finds people with odd or extreme pursuits fascinating, and I can see her wanting to write Fletcher's life story.
Let me know if any of that intrigues you, and welcome again to AG!
Fletcher Parish - May 27, 2009 08:21 PM (GMT)
*blinks* Wow, I honestly wasn't expecting much of a response. Thanks, y'all.
Carmen: We've already established fairly well what Fletcher's opinion on Ms. Snidgeton is. However, he would be the sort of person to invite the entire L2 as well as the DP staff to a barbecue or a dinner or something, for a holiday or some such, which might be how he and Ivy interact. I don't know if he will or not, but...
Arty: I don't think either Lola or Fletcher would have a very high opinion of the other, but I think you're right, he would get along well with Artemis. Maybe I'll have him stop by the shop at some point, just to say hello. I can see him getting on fairly well with Daphne, too.
Caroline: Hmm. We'll have to keep in mind some way for Fletcher and Jasper to interact. If he is ostensibly a jeweller, Fletcher might commission a special piece of jewellery for his anniversary or his wife's birthday or something, but I don't know.
Jemma: I don't know how Fletcher and Derek would interact, but he does have a grandson about Kelsey's age, and it is not without the realm of possibility that he (or his wife) might try to matchmake between the grandson and Kelsey. That's just my thought, though; let me know if you have a better idea.
Spiv: I think the idea of a mentor/student relationship between Logan and Fletcher is a great one. I'd love to try and set something like that up. And Fletcher would probably take a little convincing at first to join forces with Wesley, but I think his loyalty to his job is outweighed somewhat by his dislike of the Snidge, and he'd be willing to help, eventually. As for Cecilia, I don't know exactly how Fletcher would feel about his life story being written, but she could certainly try; without a doubt, he'd be willing to talk about his father, his son, and his friend...
Atlas Caedmon - June 7, 2009 08:19 PM (GMT)
Ack...talk about coming late to the party. I'm Lee, I'm a recently graduated Classics major who enjoys puppets, leeching off Caroline's amazing music tastes and sleeping.
I have one character to offer up and that's Atlas Caedmon.
He's an eccentric...which is really a nice way of saying odd shopkeeper who presides over the nicely non descript SHOP. Its a place where he sort of stores all the weird random crap he finds and then sells it occasionally when he needs money or to get rid of some of his inventory. He's a childhood friend of Jasper's and is a fairly friendly fellow; unless your Calixtus Ferox or anyone who works for the Ministry.
Currently he's in recovery from a terrorist attack that left his shop and home in shambles. I'm not sure how the two would interact but if you can think of anything, or you just want to randomly rp let me know!
