History: The son of wizarding broker Blake Baxby and lycanthropologist Elaine Baxby, Artemius spent much of his youth in a seaside cottage hidden by magic in the Muggle village of Tywyn on the west coast of Wales. The home, which was for a time a bed-and-breakfast, was converted into a nursing home of sorts, where Healer Baxby cared for new werewolves, or those who had nowhere to stay, and were willing to stay under her care and experimentation as she searched for a cure. Although they tried their best to stay hidden, hate mail was not an uncommon occurrence in their home, so young Artemius learned to be quiet about his homelife when he went to Hogwarts, away from the family of sorts that he'd grown up with -- Aronel, a dear friend of his who was a werewolf from childhood, sent to the Baxby Cottage for treatment by her American parents, who knew of no better place for her kind; Molly, a kind old lady who was like an aunt to young Artie and the younger wolves, who often made them hot meals while Mrs. Baxby was working in her lab and his father was out of country with work; and the other werewolves that came in and out of the Cottage, sent there by the Minstry of Magic to come to grips with their new disease, as the Wizarding World seemed to consider it. Artemius was raised with the awareness of the amount of hatred felt toward those who were different, and mastered Charms and light Potions work to help with the family business, mixing potions for his mother or charming the Shed -- the place where the main transformations took place during the full moon, so that the family "patients" would be far from prying eyes, buried in the woods that were Ministry owned, but rented out by the Baxbys for her medical research. When the disaster happened, Blake Baxby's office, in the midst of the village, was found and raided by Muggles, and he was unfortunately killed. Baxby Cottage was also found out and raided, but the inhabitants saw the mob coming from afar, and were able to hide in the woods or on the boat the Baxbys usually had moored to the dock behind their home. Many of the werewolves had to find a new home, but Molly and Aronel stayed with the Baxbys as they moved to Ireland for a time, staying with Blake's family who, though pureblood for generations, were friendly with the Muggle locals, and were safe from the raids when the crisis happened. When the funeral and such had been done with, Elaine returned to working for St. Mungo's as a lycanthropic Healer, Aronel being sent back to America and Molly went off to find a home amongst her family, who'd denied her for so long. The Baxbys haven't heard from either of them for some time. Now, Artemius is trying to find a job so that he and his mother can try and restart their lives, and has already applied to be a lowly security guard at the Ministry of Magic. They are currently living in a room in the Leaky Cauldron on the insurance money until they can find a flat to stay in more permanently.
Personality: a friendly, jestful type, but can be very quiet and pensive on the serious side of things. He tries his best to lighten up a room and make others forget their troubles, while bothered by his own. Although he is mostly pureblood (there's a halfblood witch three generations back on his mother's side) his mother's occupation had him raised in Muggle schools along with his lycanthropic "siblings", where Wizarding society had no control. As it was, outside of the Baxby Cottage grounds, he was a Muggle, but within magical wards, he was a wizard. He became almost bilingual, in a sense, being able to smoothly transition from one culture to the other with ease. He has developed a good taste for observing people and is quick to pick up on concepts and ideas. This makes him good at explaining things, but his loving family and upbringing make him a bit of a jabberjaw, especially so when excited or nervous, but he's also very easygoing when comfortable. He tries his best to be courteous, and was raised to be a gentleman -- polite by default, even when one has the excuse to do otherwise, with special attention to ladies and the elderly, even if said lady is far from ladylike. He has a soft spot for cockroach clusters and their Muggle cousin, turtles, as well as Muggle ferrero rochers (he inherited his mother's sometimes expensive taste) and enjoys good food and good company, though he'll compromise with the former for the sake of the latter. When having a rough day, he'll whistle Jimmy Buffett tunes, and his happy place is back home, on the seashore of Wales. He also enjoys nature, but likes it best when alone -- it's best when unspoiled by humankind, Wizarding and Muggle alike. He enjoys learning new things, having had his mind opened by the various people that have come in and out of his life, and his father's gifts from his worldwide travels.
Appearance: young, grey eyes either darkened in serious thought or shining with mischeif, raven hair cut fairly short -- as a boy he used to grow it long for a bit of rebellion, but now he tries his best to be presentable, as he tries to get a better job than security job at the Ministry, where he really doesn't want to be. Most commonly found at the Leaky Cauldron, where he's staying at the moment. Wears a leather duster jacket that he bought at a Muggle tailorshop -- it's professionally tailored to his 6'2" frame and was then bombarded with dry spells, warmth spells, and anything else conceiveably possible to give it all of the benefits of Wizarding robes with the Muggle style -- even pockets that were bigger on the inside. In general, he prefers Muggle clothing's warmth to Wizarding magic tricks -- particularly since he can do said tricks on his Muggle clothing for a fraction of the price. No ring -- he's still single at the moment.
