Title: Artemius Baxby
Description: New Guy - aka The Baxter Has Arrived
Artemius Baxby - June 6, 2009 08:32 PM (GMT)
Welcome to After Graduation! Why don't you tell us a little about yourself?
<Name's Katy -- I've been writing for a bit over five years now, but I've been reading the books since they came out. I've been rpging for a few years as well, and even have some original stuff out, spanning various genres. I was introduced here by Bre -- she thought this sort of thing might be right up my alley. I've already had experience with forum-based and journal-based rpging.>
We love you already. <3
Now that you've told us about yourself, why don't you tell us about your character? Here's a quick summary sheet to make it easy.
Describe your character in less than a paragraph.<Artemius is a good-natured boy, raised in a loving, yet eccentric family. Although he doesn't share it often, his mother is a lycanthropologist and he was raised around werewolves. He is intimately aware of the way they aren't exactly accepted in the Wizarding World. When the magicless week came, his home and his father's workplace were discovered by the Muggles around them, and his life was shattered -- his father was killed in a raid, and his family's home was destroyed. After recouping in his father's family home in Ireland, he has come to London to try and get a job and try to build a new life for himself. Despite his dark circumstance, he is a very genial person, and is very much a friendly bloak. When he gets more friendly, he even proves mischeivous, and always has a pouch of O'Malley's Best Itching Powder and a bag of Cockroach Clusters on his person. A very interesting person, he has plenty of neat experiences under his belt, modest as he is to share them.>
What's your posting style like?<Typically, I try to post very regularly -- at least every other day, but often multiple times a day, as updated. My posts try to be very action oriented, yet not overly wordy - I try, anyway. I strive to follow the advise to "show, not tell".>
What sort of plots or roleplays are you interested in? Serious or light? Long-term or short?<I like a bit of both, serious and light. As for length, I like fun that doesn't end too quickly, but at the same time, one doesn't want to drag things along. It really depends on the topic, I think.>
Fantastic! Now I hope you've prepared yourself. You're about to be bombarded with welcomes and thread requests from many wonderful roleplayers.
Atlas Caedmon - June 7, 2009 08:12 PM (GMT)
Hey Katy and again welcome to AG
I'm lee and I have one character that I can share with you.
Atlas Caedmon
He's an eccentric conspiracy theorist who owns SHOP, which is really a place where you can get just about anything...or nothing depending on how things are going that day. He lives with a talking skeleton named Rudolph who has a woe fully limited vocabulary (consisting only of the phrase we are all going to die), some lobster bandits, a evil moose head and a muggle physic named Margot (one of spiv numerous characters).
He hates the ministry with a burning passion so I'm not sure how much the two of them would get along but Atlas can be pretty amiable under the proper circumstances. Right now he's working on rebuilding SHOP after it was destroyed in a terrorist strike. If you have any thoughts for something between the two just let me know.
Artemius Baxby - June 7, 2009 09:27 PM (GMT)
Okay...
:lol:
You lot certainly are creative...
Baxby's family may have worked with the Ministry, and he may be a guard there now, but no one there really likes the Ministry. Kind of like when your father is in the navy and you get disillusioned by national government. Pretty much the same thing. They've been screwed over enough times and met enough nasty politicians to not be so fond of the Ministry as a whole, but it's a necessary evil. As for the conspiracy theories, I daresay he would find it interesting to learn, but with a grain of salt. He is currently staying at the Leaky Cauldron, so he might step into your shop out of curiousity on a day off or summat, if you like. Exploring the area, as it were. He's from Wales, and didn't spend a whole lot of time in England, and in fact, only went there for business purposes on very rare occasions. Now, with his father gone, though, he is in the need to get familiar with the place. He's also tried to get Tom to nudge the word about that he's in need of a job, so you could also hire him to help you with the shop, if you like. He's very good at Charms, particularly household charms and protective/shielding/construction type things -- he had to help repair the Shed every Full Moon at home while his mother's lycanthropy research center, if you can call it that, was still up and running.
Otherwise, if you happen to be going through beaureacratic paperwork, he might check your wand -- a grumble or two might not be amiss, but that's your character.
Let me know what you think -- or at least, I think that's how this goes.
Will Channing - June 8, 2009 02:32 AM (GMT)
Hullo Artie! Spiv here. Are you ready for the avalanche?
Logan Fletcher, age 26, is a former Unspeakable now looking for employment in the private sector; his brilliance makes him cynical of the menial life he now lives. He developed the Fourth Unforgivable, but was released in exchange for his testimony against Edward Garrow, who commissioned the spell from him. Now, he's repented his emotionless existence and is trying to learn how to be a human and get in touch with his feelings. Aiding him in this is Artemis Sinistra, a woman too kind to turn the scientist away when he came to her with a declaration of love.
Will Channing, age 25, is the newly appointed Minister of Magic. Whether his appointment is legitimate or just a rushed attempt to fill a plagued position is debatable, but there's no doubt that he's well-liked by the wizarding community. You’d be hard-put to find someone who hated or even disliked Will Channing. He’s friendly, cheerful and generous, always willing to help out anyone who needs it. He’s a great listener and loves hearing out people’s problems, but he has trouble returning the favor and confiding in his friends.
Constance Fallon, age 24, is a woman recovering from an identity crisis. After the murder of her family, she dedicated six years of her life to the MLE trying to find their killer; but she had no success. After being injured attempting to save late Head of MLE Sioned Baines during a terrorist attack, Con was restricted to desk work. Unable to cope with it, she retired from the MLE and has begun training as a Healer, the occupation she was originally set on. Con has a heart buried somewhere under all her Scottish temper, but she has very little experience with relationships, platonic or otherwise, and so she has a definite barrier up against certain levels of intimacy. She's trying, with limited success, to open up, but being naturally shy to begin with it's not the easiest thing she's ever attempted.
Patrick Everard, age 21, is pretty ambitious, coming from a long line of successful criminals. He is a criminal Jack-of-all-trades, but usually works as a middleman for buyers and sellers of artifacts. Regardless, he's very charismatic and a lot of fun, as long as it's playtime and not business time. He has a job at Dervish and Banges but is also sort of an unofficial curse breaker for the Russian Syndicate, a crime mob operating out of Knockturn Alley. He was sort of dragged into it when they caught him smuggling cursed golden artifacts into England without their say-so. He stays because of his intense feelings for the beautiful mob boss, Aleksandra Mikhaylova.
Margot Blanchard, age 18, is a Muggle with the capabilities of a medium. She is calm, intelligent, and American (three things that don't often go together); she's traveled to England to pursue a photography career and also to develop her connection to the "spirit" realm. She’s currently employed by Atlas Caedmon as Rudolph the skeleton’s translator and babysitter. She's very protective of Atlas and does her best to take care of him.
Wesley Coleman, 50, is...very hard to describe. He's a freelance journalist who likes to write satirical pieces that only he finds the humor in because it either offends people or goes over their heads. His conversation is much the same way; he's a jovial and fun-loving jokester, but his jokes are usually made at the expense of other people.
Cecilia Gerhardt, 27, is a Muggle-born Ravenclaw graduate who became famous as a writer of memoirs when she published the life story of wizarding romance novelist Barbara Gibson. Since then she's written four more successful memoirs and is extremely sought after by the vainest of witches and wizards who believe everyone should know their stories. She is a sweet person with very little common sense, and though she knows a lot she isn't really the smartest woman. She is currently experiencing a pre-mid-life crisis, having realized that she's almost thirty and has no idea what she wants from her own life; she's been too busy wrapped up in everyone else's.
- - - - -
I also play Lucy Ballantine, but she's a boring sparkly Sue and has no place interacting with people. Logan wants to avoid any further connection with the Ministry, so if he and Artie ever met it's doubtful that he'd be particularly willing to talk to him or trust him.
If Artie met Will and Will was made aware of his situation and his past, it's probable that Will would do his best to help Artie out; with housing, personal support, etc., and probably even trying to get him a position in the Department for the Regulation and Control of Magical Creatures, if he wanted it.
If Artie did end up helping Atlas out, he would certainly meet Margot. She's becoming sort of like a slightly more approachable version of Atlas, so if he can handle Atlas he'll certainly get along with her.
Wesley might want to get Artie "on his side," since it's always good to have loyal contacts; he'd want Artie to use his job to try and prevent Carmen Snidgeton from getting any information she could use to slander Will Channing. Thoughts?
I think it would be fun if Cecilia and Artie got together. I feel like they could have some cute interactions, so we should do a thread with them sometime!
Whew!

Most marvelous! His mum would be very pleased to be able to get at least a small house so she could continue her work -- although in the paperwork, it's mere research for a cure, it's also a bit of a psychological recovery as well -- kind of like therapy. These werewolves are treated like beasts, and the Baxbys show them that they're still human, and that there are still nice people out there that will treat them like people rather than beasts. The bloke who wrote "Hairy Snout, Human Heart" wrote most of it while in our care. As for a Ministry job, he'd rather not. He'd be polite and say he'd consider it, but he has a severe distaste for the beaureacratic system. He'd be content to help his family's business go back up again.
I'd probably definitely meet Will at work. I might have to put in a request for a new place of work on my mother's behalf so she could continue her reasearch -- she's looking for a cure to lycanthrope. Right now, she's working on a spell designed after the Wolfsbane Potion train of thought.
If Artie did end up helping Atlas out, he would certainly meet Margot. She's becoming sort of like a slightly more approachable version of Atlas, so if he can handle Atlas he'll certainly get along with her.
Translator and babysitter? :lol: You guys come up with the most amusing stuff. I've already talked with Lee -- I might have a couple things that I can do with Atlas.
Wesley might want to get Artie "on his side," since it's always good to have loyal contacts; he'd want Artie to use his job to try and prevent Carmen Snidgeton from getting any information she could use to slander Will Channing. Thoughts?
Erm... :lol: Artemius would try at first to stay uninvolved, but if they got friendly, he wouldn't be adverse to passing on notes and such, but how much can a security guard do? It'll be a while until he gets the nerve to leave his post for mischeivous duties.
As for the humour, not very nice... If the joke's not on him, Artemius would be able to tolerate him -- he often has to tolerate people he doesn't like, more so as he's made to step up in the family workings. If Artie gets these lofty jokes, it might even be an ego boost for him -- he's rather disillusioned by the Ministry in particular. Family business left him open to see a lot of the hypocritical natures of the people who are supposed to be helping werewolves, but instead still treat them like strays. If Wesley pokes at lycanthropy or the Baxby family in specific (highly unlikely -- the first is a rather taboo topic, and the latter was not known at all except in paperwork in the Beast Division or in St. Mungo's Lycanthropy ward) you can consider the relationship off, but Artemius can be very tolerant. And as a security guard, he's stuck in one position very long, so it's not unlikely that he's to be bombarded by an uncomfortable conversation purely because he's incapable of leaving his post.
I think it would be fun if Cecilia and Artie got together. I feel like they could have some cute interactions, so we should do a thread with them sometime!
Fellow Ravenclaw, there you go. And a writer, which is interesting. Topic might not be someone Artemius is too familiar with, but doubtless his dear friend (ever elusive, yet ever mentioned) Aronel read some of her books. Again, interesting to date -- Artemius usually has trouble with dimwits (not to be unkind) having grown up with a healer as his mother and even having Remus Lupin in his house once upon a time, along with countless other philosophical types (you'd be surprised the variety of reactions that lycanthropy has on a person) so he's usually got a higher standard for intelligence than is normal, but if she's sweet, he'll be extra kind. And with being a fellow Ravenclaw, she'll have a soft spot in his heart already. As a friend, he'll do his best to help her in her endeavours, whatever they may be. Raised by an eccentric crew himself, you'd be hard pressed to find an exciting yet crazy idea he probably hasn't been exposed to yet. Again -- you'd be surprised the variety of reactions that lycanthropy has on a person. Some of them turn into cancer patients -- both in the "woe is me, life is not worth living, I'm in so much pain" way and the "well, clock is ticking. let's go have fun!" way. It makes for an interesting homelife.
----
Erm... Connie sounds like fun, particularly if we were dating, but I'd like to wait until I got better at this style of RPGing before I start dating on here...
And I have noticed the organised crime. There's a lot of it on here...
If Artemius were to get involved with Patrick with such, it would have to be discreet -- a "could you give this to Mr. So-and-so when he gets in this morning? Thanks a load" -- and he would have to have no idea what he was getting into until things started getting serious. He wouldn't purposefully get into bad business, but he's green enough that you could catch him off guard and get him deep enough that he couldn't get out before he knew it, if you played your cards right. He's a well meaning bloak. And if Patrick is as much fun as you say, Artie just might offer his services to help out with any mentioned "business issues" and do so to help out a new friend without realising that said business was illegal. That could be a pretty good foot-in-the-door for him for the crime world, if you'd like to take advantage of my good boy.
:lol: I'm glad someone recognises that Sues are not meant to interact with others.
Off duty, Artemius will be very discreet about where he works -- "a security job" is probably all he will say, and he only works there because it was the easiest option at the moment. He's looking for something better, and preferably not with the Ministry -- he doesn't much like them either. Maybe he and Logan will find they have that in common.
*glides to a stop, takes off goggles* Well. That was fun!
Artemis Sinistra - June 8, 2009 06:44 PM (GMT)
Hi Artie! Welcome to AG! My name's...Arty. (Let the confusion begin!)
I've got a few characters but (as I'm sure you'll be relieved to discover) not as many as Spiv our reigning alter queen.
Wendell Darrow: Wendell is a rather well known jack-of-all-trades freelancing sort of criminal. He'll do anything from stealing wedding presents to transporting drugs. But his favorite pass time is hitting on the auror girls (especially Sofia Robards). He was arrested by Ivy Ballantine, but luckily escaped with the help of Sofia. He then faked his own death and mugged Christian Bale for a bit of his hair--overdosed on polyjuice potion and has been forced to walk around looking like Batman ever since (followed by many, many jokes). In his new disguise he pretended to be an american auror and actually joined the MLE where he started dating Sofia (who was unaware of his true identity). But the potion is about to wear off and he's going to be a whole lot of trouble...
Artemis Sinistra: Twin of Apollo Sinistra, she is also co-owner of Sinistra's Secondhand Shop. She is generally considered to be the more level-headed twin. She's quite intelligent. Her claim to fame is her impossibly terrible dating history. The most recent having been Logan Fletcher creator of the fourth unforgiveable. She broke things off with him after the whole fourth unforgiveable thing...but he's worming his way back into her life despite her earnest attempts to continue hating him.
Daphne Honeycutt: Owner of Honeycutt's bakery. Daphne is an extremely bubbly happy sort of person (to the point of being nearly annoying at times). She's a bit niave at times, but firmly believes that baked goods could solve all the worlds problems. And notebly in her near future--her shop will be burnt down by the terrorists.
Cecil Banister: Cecil was born to muggle parents who were Dursleyish to the extreme. After finding out their son was a wizard they locked him up in his room for 15 years and refused to allow him to attend Hogwarts. This obvious had some negative impacts on his mental as wel as magical stability. One day he had a magical outburst that exploded his house. The ministry came and got him...and he was briefly kept in St. Mungo's but eventually released. Now he is a tramp living in Diagon Alley nearly incapable of properly communicating with people.
Lola Davis: She's the gossip columnist for the Daily Prophet. She enjoys partying, gossip, clothes, gossip, men, gossip, and erm...gossip. She's also probably the only employee that the notoriously nasty editor Carmen Snidgeton likes to the smallest degree.
I also have Elizabeth Darrow (sister of Wendell) buuut since I plan on killing and/or sending her away in the near future I feel justified in ignoring her existance.
~~~~~~
So if he's a security guard at the Ministry he has probably seen Wendell around in both his criminal and fake persona.
I would quite enjoy him meeting Arty if for no reason other than to have amusing in-character name confusion. Additionally, I think that they would legitimately get along. She's a pretty good hearted sort of person and would probably find his past interesting.
Sorry, I have to jet off to work soon so I'm a bit short on good ideas at present. But if you can think of anything interesting with any of my characters let me know!
Artemius Baxby - June 8, 2009 07:31 PM (GMT)
Wendell, of course. As it is, he's a new guard -- he doesn't know anyone yet. So, no worries about me recognising him.
As for the twins, I shall doubtless visit the shop at some point. He's a little strapped for cash, and not adverse to thrifting.
Honeycutt? Erm... A visit to the bakery? Why not.
Cecil: I live in the Leaky Cauldron, so I'm likely to run into him at some point.
Lola? Don't know why she'd find me interesting, but I'll be in the Leaky Cauldron or on Level Two rather regularly.
Shallah Kosa - June 8, 2009 09:14 PM (GMT)
Welcome to AG!
I'm Niff and I will now offer you my one character.
Shallah Kosa, shes a veela, a mercenary and is currently the terrorist leader behind the apparation bug that has been nabbing people left and right for sometime. Her organization is also repsponsible for the terrorist attack against Atlas Caedmon and will soon be responsible for the upcoming attack on Honeycutt's bakery. I don't really know where the two would interact but thats half the fun!
Artemius Baxby - June 8, 2009 10:52 PM (GMT)
Interesting -- well, do you want me with you or against you? As it is, I daresay I might not do too well with you -- perhaps next time you have a raid or something, give me an invite and we can meet in person. *cue hateful glares* Sound like a good idea?
