History:
Kiyoshi was the result of an illicit affair between his musical mother, Miyoko and … somebody. Miyoko was, for lack of a better term, a rather sketchy personality. She was deeply inspired by the aesthetic movement, even though it died in the 19th century and she leads her life by the philosophy of decadence where possible. This was not exactly helped by being a fan of visual kei. Even so, she held back from absolute hedonism, enough to take into account that she had a human growing inside her. She couldn’t possibly conjure up an argument with her conscious to justify abortion. So, Kiyoshi was born.

They lived in Miyoko’s small Tokyo studio as she owned a small independent record to help new bands on the scene. She also offered her services as a studio musician as she was able to play violin, cello, piano, flute, guitar and drums. Their life was often in an uproar as Miyoko frequently created and disbanded bands and they’d be on numerous tours, each time with different personalities. None of the bands ever reached significant success. He was also witness to plenty of parties and was exposed to the shenanigans of back stage crews. There wasn’t enough time settled to form friends so his primary concerns up until he was five was his mother, her music and travel.

Despite such an uncertain lifestyle and the fact he was an accident, himself and his mother were quite close. She was his only constant and found solace in the brief moments when they were together. He also loved her for teaching him music.

Just approaching six, his father got back in touch with Miyoko. Tristan Waldgrave was the owner of a record label in Britain, a major one at that, who wished to extend is influence east to the growing Jrock scene. He wanted to have an ‘accord’ with Miyoko’s label. Kiyoshi, hidden away under a table in the studio, listened with interest. There was some sort of advance and a promise of no more life on the roads. There was something about dinner and beds as well, but he ignored that. Being rather fond of the travelling, Kiyoshi revealed himself to object to the proposal.

Tristan gave Miyoko a betrayed look, to which the reply was, “Don’t look at me like that, he’s your fault.”

Apparently the matter grew more complex. Tristan was not only the owner of a record label in the rock scene in Britain, but also in magical Britain. It would, with all likelihood, mean that Kiyoshi would be a wizard. With that, Tristan asserted that Kiyoshi should come home with him when he was eleven, so that he could study at Hogwarts. There, he would have someone familiar to aid him through the trials of the magical world. Miyoko was sceptical of the story until Tristan animated all the instruments in the studio to play their own rendition of one of Miyoko’s pieces.

In the mean time, it became of utmost importance that Kiyoshi learnt English properly. He was enrolled in Aoba - Japan International School and was separated from his mother for the first time. He was put into the intensive classes to bring his English up to scratch. He actually made friends, to his delight, but it was short-lived. He was withdrawn by Tristan at age ten so he might grow accustomed to living in England before progressing to Hogwarts.

Kiyoshi was moved to London and a little anger was growing towards Tristan for separating him from his culture and mother. She visited on rare occasions but the increase in business kept her away. The lifestyle wasn’t exactly better for him either; the house, which doubled as an office, was always occupied by startling rock bands who became a regular addition to Kiyoshi’s life just a tour schedules had in Japan. There was one mistake Tristan did make to ensure a hearty dislike from his son- he criticised Kiyoshi’s English and asserted that he must lose the accent. Cue a speech therapist and some humiliating agonising over letters to complete the resentment.

England was too wild for him, even by his standards. He wanted nothing more than to go home. However, at eleven, he was separated further from all constant anchors in his life and was invited into Hogwarts. He was bought his wand, robes and set off on his way with little support. There was one gift though- a stack of English Literature and a dictionary, to improve his vocabulary. Kiyoshi was not amused.

He boarded the Hogwarts Express absolutely adamant that he would hate every second of his time at the school. If it wasn’t for a chance encounter with another First Year, he might have actually isolated himself in a self-destructive manner. At the Sorting Ceremony, he was sorted into Gryffindor and right after him in the line, also in Gryffindor, was a boy called Dmitri Kyriakides. They sat next to each other and seemed to have an accord almost immediately. Dmitri was the son of the Greek magical diplomat in England and a Classics teacher and was also aware of the trials of a duel nationality.

Kiyoshi, as a result, grew into the English culture and absorbed it rather than fought it. Himself and Dmitri found another common bond- music. They jammed together on regular occasions.

By their Third Year, they had accumulated interest enough to have a regular audience and to recruit band members. Kiyoshi felt he had something and for the first time, considered music as an actual career. With band members at varying years and some wishing to continue their studies as a safety net, Kiyoshi dropped out after his OWLs to pursue the notion of a band with his father so the rest could sort out their priorities without the strain of breaking onto the music radar.

After six years of painstakingly producing an album to perfection, the contract was drawn up and all the members had graduated bar himself. The band started circulating and have recently released the single ‘Cherry Blossom’ which is awaiting public scrutiny and is to be quickly followed by their first full length album.

Kiyoshi’s relationship with his father is cold and is usually strictly business. He visits his mother at every given opportunity. He has kept his mother’s name so that his success will not be accused and put down to family connections. No one apart from the nuclear family know his father.

Personality:
Kiyoshi is a constant worrier and frets over the people closest to him. He exudes the impression that he’s good at looking after people but he is, in reality, restless. His cautiousness reaches the point of absurdity sometimes, for example, if someone has decided to put a table where people will hit themselves on the corners, he’ll move it. If they still walk into it, he’ll yell at them to be more careful. If he walks into it, he’ll tape up the corners.

He wants to believe the best in people and this coupled with a rather motherly disposition often makes him a bit of a push over. He is very aware of everything around him at the consequence of not being very aware of himself resulting in personal neglect, memory loss and clumsiness. Although, he’d prefer it if you called him accident prone- clumsiness sounds like his own fault while accident prone sounds more like an ailment beyond his control.

After witnessing the vices of others, Kiyoshi cannot for the life of him resist temptation unless it bears serious consequences for those around him. He is often deluded into thinking that his behaviour isn’t too bad, relatively. This has, on numerous occasions, nearly lead him down the path of sex, drugs and rock n’ roll. At the moment, his bad habits include drinking passed his limit, smoking, being drawn to sugary foods, a caffeine dependency and being unable to say no to any woman who gives him the ‘eye’. I suppose his approach to indulgence is decadence unless at the expense of others.

His enthusiasm is childlike and endearing. He always seems in a rush and has amazing energy in everything he does, but tends to exhaust himself. You can guarantee to find him bunked up after a live show clutching at his favourite blanket.

His multi-cultural backgrounds gives him an eternal sense of awe at the diversity in the world. He has a deeply instilled wanderlust and is also very open minded. He is prone to philosophical meanderings which can give several people the misgivings that he is a bit of an air head. This together lends him a poetic edge to his speech in both of his languages and his thoughts.

There is a darker side to him though. He is not prone to hot bursts of temper. His anger is very bitter and he tends to fester it, resulting in very cold and malicious attempts to satisfy it. Thankfully, this state is not easily provoked and requires real enmity before it emerges.

Appearance:
Deeply influenced by his ties to Japan, Kiyoshi takes after the visual kei genre as his mother did. He adopts costumes of live shows and videos that are a tailored/military theme with a slight twist. He has a slim, thin body with long slender limbs and stands at 5’7. A long stride, light step and natural grace gives a sense of control and refinement, but it is quickly dashed away when he is frantically pacing all over the place.

His hair is black but shines purple in the light. He keeps it longish and layered and immaculately styled. His skin is pale which is accentuated by his dark hair and eyes. As is custom with the genre, he draws attention to his eyes, which are black and only warmed when he smiles, with make up. Harsh eyebrows mean that his face, when stoic, appears aloof and cold- for which he is eternally grateful for in photo shoots. His smile seems to touch every aspect of his face, immediately brightening him up. And he smiles a lot. The animation of his face seems to draw people to him and any slight change of emotion is instantly betrayed by his expression.
