History:
Luna Lovegood was born on March 18, 1981 to proud parents Xenophilius and Diana Lovegood. She was their only child, and she was spoiled greatly by both parents. Both of her parents were very intellectual, if a bit odd. Xenophilius was the editor of the 'famous' wizarding magazine (or tabloid, as some might call it), The Quibbler, while her mother was famous for trying to create her own spells and experimenting with her magic. Unfortunately, one of these spells went horrible wrong one day in 1990, and Diana Lovegood was killed in the fray.
Xenophilius was left to raise a little girl on his own. Some might argue that he didn't do a very good job of this, but ask Luna and she'll say he did an absolutely wonderful job. Many of his odd views did rub off on her, but that happens with most children. Luna was quite depressed after her mother's death, and it was her father who brought the 9 year old through it. He reassured Luna that she would see her mother again.
On September 1, 1992, Luna experienced her first day at Hogwarts. She was sorted into the house of Ravenclaw, just like both of her parents. Unfortunately, because she parroted her father's bizarre views, she was viewed as a bit of a 'freak' by those she went to school with. She earned the nickname Loony, and students would hide her things and otherwise treat her badly. Despite this, Luna kept an amazing strength of character and tried not to let it bother her too much.
It was in Luna's 4th year that she really began to shine. Another September 1st came around, and another memorable one. She met Harry Potter, Ron Weasley, and Hermione Granger on the Hogwarts Express. Though she and Hermioned butted heads, and not much happened on the train, this would foreshadow a rather exciting year for Luna. Dumbledore's Army was started in this year, and Luna was one of it's star members. She was one of only six (the others being Neville Longbottom, Ginny Weasley, and, of course, Harry, Ron, and Hermione) to travel to the Ministry. Luna was even injured in the process, but she recovered, and that summer she and her father took a vacation of sorts together to see if they could spot a Crumple-Horned Snorkack. She would never forget that year, as it was the year she met some of her truest friends.
In 1998, in the midst of the second war with Voldemort, Luna was kidnapped on the way home to visit her father for Christmas, all because her father was rebelling against the Ministry. The Death Eaters told her father that she was being held in Azkaban, while truthfully she was being detained in the basement of Malfoy Manor. She was rescued by Harry, Ron, and Hermione (and Dobby, of course), and spent much of her time after that at Shell Cottage with Bill and Fleur Weasley.
She was also a great help at the Battle of Hogwarts, where she played a key part in helping Harry Potter find the Rowena Ravenclaw's Diadem.
Her last year at Hogwarts was largely uneventful compared to the previous few years, though she graduated and did reasonably well on her NEWTs.
Magical creatures had always fascinated Luna, to the point where she decided to include them in her career. Luna became a naturalist for the wizarding world, following in the footsteps of Newt Scamander as she discovered a few new magical creatures, and disproved the existence of a few others (unfortunately, this happened to be a few of creatures her father insisted existed).
During a few of her adventures, she met a fellow naturalist, Newt Scamander's own grandson, Rolf. The two fell in love over shared interests, and married in the spring of 2008. Now they work together. In July of 2014, Luna gave birth to twin boys, Lorcan and Lysander.
Personality:
Luna is still much like she was in Hogwarts, though has calmed down a bit. She doesn't parrot everything her father says anymore, though is still quite the believer when it comes to many other things. She still likes to make her own accessories.
She is a free-spirit, especially when it comes to parenting. While she won't let her children do everything they wish to, she's not a very strict parent. She cares about her children very much, but believes that they should be able to explore the world on their own and learn for themselves (after all, this is what she and her husband do for a living). Luna is a very caring person, and also very observant. She will not hesitate to say what she thinks about a person. She will be sure to say it nicely (or nonchalantly), but she is a very good judge of character.
Appearance: Luna has long, wavy blonde hair. She has bright blue eyes, and even now, has an almost dreamy expression on her face most of the time, giving off the impression of having her head permanently in the clouds (which is more or less true of her). She is rather average in size, at about 5'6", and has a pretty slim figure, although not to the point where she looks anorexic. She can still be identified in a crowd through her odd fashions. She's perfected the radish earring look, as well as odd bracelets and other such things.
