Title: The Irish Blood Revolution: A History
Description: Compiled by the FBO

The Lead-Up to Revolution (1990 - 2006)

The Irish Blood Revolution was sparked by plans from witches and wizards within the Irish pureblood community to build an ideal wizarding society on the Emerald Isle. The Fearghus, as the purist supporters were called, were looking to cleanse the magical stock of Ireland through whatever means necessary, and remove 'outdated statutes of secrecy imposed upon the Irish by violent and magically deficient muggles.' Their long-term goal was to wipe out muggles and mixed blood magic folk, and create a pureblood utopia in which they could practice magic freely.

The Fearghus were led by the brilliant and charismatic Cormac MacFealltoir. He spent the majority of his life working on his plan in conjuncture with several other important pureblood families, including the Bradigans, Quiggs, and Reeds. (It's important to note that Fearghus efforts were also funded by purists from the United Kingdom) MacFealltoir took advantage of the mediocre economy, the constant tumult of the Voldemort years, and a constant sense of oppression that the Irish are plagued with. They did not use violence in the beginning. They used the political clout and purse strings of purebloods within the government to gain public support, and then slipped in several laws which began a long process of muggle-born and half-blood criminalization. They painted purebloods as the ideal moral lifestyle and pinnacle of magical achievement, and mixed blood witches and wizards as failures, rule-breakers, and human chimeras.

The Fight for Control (2007 - 2010)

During the Fearghus' rise to power a few muggle-sympathetic pureblood families caught on to the plans. The 'magical traitors' included the Grahams, Ballantines, and Everards. They combated the rising tide of pro-purist sympathies as much as possible, but their attempts were deterred by the political atmosphere MacFealltoir created. Due to their own popular support (which was greatly aided by the leadership of famous Kennedy Graham, or Cursin' Kenny), mixed blood families joined their cause and together they attempted to overturn the anti-muggle bills.

In order to make the anti-purist voice more vocal, mixed blood and pureblood sympathizers founded the Free Blood Organization, whose purpose was to educate the magical community on the equality of magical and non-magical folk, and promote tolerance and cooperation of the two cultures. There was also an underground purpose; the witches and wizards in the higher echelons realized that the Fearghus had every intention of using violence against non-purebloods, and that anyone who stayed would have to fight. The FBO secretly began training witches and wizards to defend themselves. This decision gives the Fearghus grounds for persecution in the future.

War Breaks Out (2011 - 2014)

Fearghus laws became increasingly oppressive despite FBO efforts. The Fearghus went so far as to create incentive programs which encouraged non-purebloods to leave the country--a program which was stunningly successful--as well as a program that arranged pureblood marriages, in order to "replenish stock blood." Unfortunately for the Fearghus, several of the largest pureblood families were also rebelling. They started a brainwashing program expressly to "realign" as many pureblood rebel witches and wizards as possible, so they would be suitable stock for marrying.

Despite the Relocation Program, many non-pureblood families decided to stay behind and fight for their rights with the Free Blood Organization. The Fearghus subsequently paid good money to the press to paint the FBO as a radical terrorist society, and accused them of attempting to overthrow the government. The first act of war came when the Fearghus removed High Counselor Frank Donoghue, which they blamed on the FBO, and placed Cormac at the head of the government in an efficient coup. The Council gave MacFealltoir emergency control of the government, and he gave the Fearghus permission to use any means necessary to stop the "radical revolutionaries from destroying our way of life in Ireland."

The Free Blood Organization went underground. Muggle and mixed blood persecution became commonplace, and most of the persecution was committed with the excuse that they were criminals guilty of connections with the FBO.

Timeline

1990-2006: MacFealltoir family gains power in council, infiltrating departments with purist supporters.
Fall of 2007: Cormac starts interfering in education, starting with Dissendium Academy.
June 2008: Vincent Everard is the first to be killed in the blood revolution, at the hands of Cormac MacFealltoir.
Summer 2008: Fearghus supporters are popping up all over the place because their plan has been in the works for at least twelve years and they're finally beginning to make their move.
Fall 2008-Spring 2009: Things get worse across Ireland for half-bloods, muggle-borns, and supposed pureblood traitors. “Magic Promotion” programs are instituted across the country which are designed to squelch anything that isn't pureblood in nature. The Graham/Ballantine/Everard family get popular with the people on the wrong side of the tracks because of their efforts to stop blood discrimination.
Summer 2009: In retaliation against the Fearghus, the Free Blood Society forms. Persecution against non-purebloods begins.
September 2009-February 2011: Fearghus institute various purist programs. Thousands of mixed blood Irish leave the country. Serious persecution against non-purebloods begins. High Counselor Donoghue coup etc. etc.
Spring 2011:FBO forced underground when the new Council discovers their secret purpose and tries to “prevent a bloody uprising by violent blood terrorists,” etc. slander lies blah blah.
June 2011: Fearghus start interrogating whatever family members they can find, torture, deaths, etc. etc.. There are a lot of half-bloods and muggle-borns to get rid of, but they target the traitors and revolutionaries first to decrease morale.
