Appearance: Mischa Barton

Personality: Ella is utterly without a personality.

History: In Ella's mind, her birth was a blessing to her family. Eimear had been born two years earlier, but by that time, it must have been obvious that the girl would never be the daughter her parents had wanted. She was relatively pretty, but nothing particularly special, and was very smart even then, never a good sign. Even her own mother can't have liked her much, considering how quickly she moved on to favoring Ella. The youngest daughter was privileged from birth, just the way she liked it.

Ella's father was often called away whenever there was a particularly troubling case at the hospital, which Ella never minded, if only because she was so close to her mother. She was raised almost entirely by her mother and the house elves the Duncans employed, and had a tendency to take attention away from her older sister. She was pretty and quiet, perfect for marrying off. This was the class her mother stemmed from- the Donoghues were an old pureblood family, steeped with tradition. The men were meant to hold powerful jobs (such as Mr. Duncan's job as a healer), and the women were meant to marry rich and produce pretty heirs. It was the way of Ella's world, and she thrived in it from a very young age.

She attended every pureblood event, and although a husband had not yet been decided on, it was widely known that Ella would have no problem finding a suitable man. She knew what made a good hostess, and had watched her mother keenly to learn what made a good wife. She only spoke when spoken to, quietly even then, and was perfectly content with being a trophy wife, even desiring it.

Aside from her wonderful grooming habits and her tendency for silence, Ella also learned magic at a very early age. Though not particularly gifted at it, she had a basic knowledge of many household spells through the teachings of her mother by the time she entered Dissendium. Arriving at the school, she quickly realized how much more she knew than any of the Muggle-borns and even some of the other purebloods and was immediately convinced of her own superiority. While Eimear tried to convince her that this wasn't true- just because they hadn't learned it yet, didn't make them stupid, some of them might even be smarter than her- Ella's position never changed, and her letters from home made it clear to her that her mother agreed.

At Dissie (as it was affectionately called by people other than her), Ella became popular within her house, as was expected. She's pureblood and she's gorgeous, so it was no surprise to her that people wanted to be her friend. Of course, the number of people vying for her friendship would probably have decreased drastically if she ever actually spoke to them. As it was, they could just pretend that Ella had a wonderful personality and was just shy rather than acknowledge that she didn't speak to them because she hated them all. While it was sometimes hard for Ella to go through schooling surrounded by people uglier and dumber than she was, her school years went well overall. In comparison to her current life, life at Dissendium was wonderful.

The day of her graduation, Ella was told which lucky pureblood boy she would be married off to. This was an announcement she looked forward to, something she waited for, and she knew she wouldn't protest at all. Then again, she didn't expect to hear Ryan McKenna's name from her father's lips. The faint that resulted from this announcement wasn't exactly pleasing to her parents and neither was the sobbing that came shortly after she regained consciousness. She had never cried before, but the great well of tears just couldn't be stopped as she swore up and down that she'd rather go to Azkaban than marry that thing they called a boy. Truthfully, if they had married, she probably would go to Azkaban for the murder of her husband.

Luckily (or unluckily, depending on the perspective), the marriage never happened. Ella was never told why, just that the McKennas had suddenly backed out of the agreement. Her parents seemed to think that word had somehow gotten out that Ella had been less than receptive toward the prospect, but Ella knew it probably had more to do with the rumors that Ryan had run off with Professor Sheridan than anything else.

Appreciative as she may have been that Ryan made a run for it, a failed marriage arrangement didn't leave her with many prospects for a husband, especially since she had never spoken to the majority of the people her age. Years of zoning off during classes didn't leave her with much interest in a career either, a path she'd never even considered while at school. The combination of these left Ella sitting at home through most of the Irish Blood Wars, helping her mother run a household that was rapidly losing all of their money "to the cause" and impatiently waiting for a pureblood boy who hadn't already been married off to take notice of her.

This period of waiting and gradually becoming poor lasted as long as her term at Dissendium did, a long seven years, and at the still relatively tender age of 24, Ella was becoming something of a spinster. Every pureblood seemed taken or disinterested and even if she were to downgrade to half-blood, her family was no longer popular enough or wealthy enough to get her a decent match. It seemed inevitable that their pureblood family tree would end (Merlin knew Eimear wasn't having kids) unless drastic action was taken.

Ella was sent away to the UK shortly after her 25th birthday (she was practically middle-aged!) with a list of pureblood men, on a mission to find a husband and perhaps even help the purist cause there as she hadn't been able to in Ireland. A noble goal, but an obvious second to her husband-search.

Previous Roleplay Experience: 8 years, give or take a couple months. Started on Neopets, went through a pretty intense Harry Potter phase, ending up at Dissendium. Spiv's the one who got me to branch out to other genres =] All I'm currently doing is modding over at RPG-D, and I haven't actually roleplayed in months, so forgive me if I'm out of practice.
