History:
Dorian was born to two Muggle parents and is himself pure Muggle. His childhood was thus, quite mundane. His father was a stockbroker and his mother was a GP. These two demanding careers ensured comfortable earnings, but it did not steal time away from them. They were a very close happy family and his parents were extremely careful around him to make sure he was happy, but not spoiled. Dorian was the product of years of struggle against infertility, finally culminating in his miraculous birth after some costly treatment. Thus, they did everything in their power to bring him up in the right environment and circumstances. After so much stress to have one child, Dorian remained the only child. Although privileged, that was all the distinction he had. Hence the relatively short history- he’s just an ordinary man. Or, rather, was an ordinary man.
Dorian was brought up in London, bustling with life and with no shortage of social interaction. In a rich suburb, he enjoyed security and a vast variety of friends. He was a quiet and shy boy, but once coaxed, was lively and playful. At school, he excelled as his calm and studious nature allowed him to learn extremely quickly. However, his shyness actually spared him from bullying as he avoided answering questions like the plague, blessedly avoiding the label of ‘teacher’s pet’. He was always silently inquisitive and scientific and enjoyed pursuing his curiosity in privacy and his own time.
At 13, Dorian was enrolled at Eton which continued his sheltered life style all the way to the age of 18. In that time, he was fully engulfed in public school boy life full of tradition and ceremony which tempered him into a fine gentleman. Now in a relatively safe environment where everyone’s intellect matched his, Dorian was able to crawl out of his protective shell and began to take pride in his ability. His merit became more apparent as he was the star of the rowing team. He became fond of debating and quickly found interest in the arts.
The time came to leave his beloved school, only to progress to a similarly renowned university. He won his place at Cambridge and settled down to study, but finally he was out of his sheltered existence. He would have to finally confront such woes as alcohol and women. Dorian took on, as a result of peer pressure, a work hard play hard attitude. Despite sometimes getting three hours sleep between a party and a lecture, he managed to get a first and was quickly spat out of the system and expected to be gobbled up into employment.
He wasn’t ready to leave the shelter entirely and wanted to continue studying for love of his subject and to delay finding work. He applied to begin a Masters, was accepted, and began to spend his summer off in the best way possible for him; a tour of the country visiting old Etonian housemates and crashing their graduation parties. One of these parties was the venue of his bite.
A friend’s graduation/reunion party was a not-so-technically-legal rave held in a forest next to said friend’s home. Apparently it was meant to be ‘some trippy stuff, like Enter Shikari’ to which Dorian could not complain. What the organisers of the rave did not realise was that nearby to the forest was a Wizard’s house, placed there for convenience so that he could rampage around during the full moon as a werewolf.
There was a full moon that night.
The combination of music and lights attracted the transformed wizard. Dorian spotted the form first and warned everyone. He was the only one standing still when the crowd began to disperse. He was the one the werewolf picked. As he ushered people away, he was attacked and bitten on the arm. He managed to hit the creature on the nose to get it to let go, breaking it and forcing the werewolf to retreat. Muggle authorities assumed it to be a standard wolf and he was treated in a Muggle hospital. Embarrassingly, the newspapers reported on him. “Man mauled at illegal rave.” His parents were not amused and he hoped that the university wasn’t going to get a whiff of it.
Even still, his wound did not seem to heal at all in the two weeks he was there. Dorian was allowed to leave the hospital after claiming he could be responsible for dressing and cleaning his arm by itself. He has taken to walking around with a sling on his arm.
Since being discharged, Dorian has begun to notice more and more strange buildings around London that he had never seen before. The new magic now coursing its way through his body is starting to erode at the barriers set up for Muggles. He also seems to be getting hairier.
However, he still does not know that he is now a werewolf which essentially renders him a danger until he is caught. Of course, once he’s caught, he might feel that his life has been ruined forever.
Personality:
There are so many facets to Dorian’s personality that most people feel they barely know him at all. He changes depending on where he is and who he’s with, but all so seamlessly that it takes a while to notice. Except, that is, when he’s in the club, then the difference is extremely noticeable.
Concerning work, Dorian accepts no nonsense. It’s his priority. He abhors procrastination and being disorganised which has resulted in his roommate voicing his concern over Dorian’s need to alphabetise everything. He works hard and does not like settling for second best if he knows he had the potential to be the best. He strives to reach perfection and craves knowledge, believing it is the purpose of humanity to know as much as he possibly can. He concedes he cannot know everything, but that does not stop him testing his limits.
The cold and stoic front he puts on while working quickly melts away when work is done. He is a very kind, caring and generous individual who adores being the shoulder to cry on. While fierce in a formal debate or intellectual argument, at the first hint of emotional conflict he’ll run and duck for cover. Rows make him feel awkward and uncomfortable and is a pacifist by nature. He is easily defeated in a fight as he’d rather concede then let violence or anger continue. He finds it quite traumatic and requires ample time in quiet reclusion to get his spirits back up.
The traits listed mean Dorian is in danger of being a scholar with no social life. This was quickly rectified by his university buddies who immediately got him hooked on the club scene. Dorian, if not distracted by work, will instantly pursue leisure. He practically transforms; he’s witty, extroverted and wild. He feels it’s the only time it is permissible for him to let go of his inhibitions after a long time obeying rules and customs. He takes on so much responsibility that he recognises the need to drop some of it on occasions.
One of Dorian’s greatest strengths is his own personal awareness. He recognises his flaws, knows what type of people bring out the best him in, knows who brings out the worst, can calculate his potential and knows his limits. Unfortunately, he cannot allow much to be outside of his control. He does not like spontaneity and has to visibly calm down whenever his plans go awry, which is more often than he’d like. He is always aware of risks and is unwilling to take a gamble, making him prone to inaction which is often even more damaging than taking the plunge or just flipping a coin.
Generally though, most people just assume he’s the nondescript introverted sweet guy across the corridor. His personality is generally dismissed as unremarkable before his intellect and good conversation skills are known.
Appearance:
Thin; concerning his features and body build. Standing at 6’2 with not much muscle definition, he’d much rather you call him ‘lithe’ over ‘gangly’. ‘Gangly’ makes him feel nerdy, even though he is, secretly. Doesn’t help when he still dresses like a student in his college sweatshirt and jeans, occasionally being daring enough to wear a shirt that hangs slightly too big on him. And he has big feet, but don’t mention it. He doesn’t like them- they’re out of proportion and make his shoes expensive.
His face is narrow and his feature rapier sharp. He has narrow brown eyes that make him look like his squinting all the time, but have a lovely smiling quality to them as they twinkle in the light. His hair is messy, brown and kinky, often kept long because he doesn’t know what to do with it. His lips are very thin, instantly giving a slightly sarcastic edge to his face which disappears when he smiles. Recently he has been sporting stubble because it keep miraculously growing back in the afternoon even after he’s shaved that morning. It’s driving him insane- he likes to be clean shaven. Closer to the full moon, he does, naturally, get a little hairier. His skin also appears whiter and bags materialise under his eyes. Also very unusual is the wild glean that replaces the boyish twinkle closer to that time of the month.
