Title: Sonic The Hedgehog 3 and Knuckles
Description: perhaps my favorite Sonic game of all

Hyper Sonic - July 16, 2006 05:40 AM (GMT)
I'd have to say out of all Sonic games this one impressed me the most. As it had everything I wanted in it. Hyper characters, Super Emeralds, the Master Emerald, the Death Egg, Master Emerald Mech everything was bigger and better. The storyline was well done in itself for a 2D Sonic game. They illustrated it well for a 2D game.

Everything about the game, from it's graphics for the time it was made, to the level design, to the bosses themselves, done well. After a while it does get too easy, but I'd have to say, never has there been a better Sonic game for me then this one.

It's quite obvious though, after all, my name is Hyper Sonic. Obviously this would be my favorite Sonic game.

It's an epic one in my opinion.

I assume most of the members here have played this game to it's fullest... meaning played it with Sonic and Tails, Sonic alone, Tails alone and Knuckles while getting all Chaos and Super Emeralds.

Amesuki - July 16, 2006 06:44 PM (GMT)
Sonic 3+K is one of the those games you go wow in. I love it. The only thing I hated about that game is doing the Sandopolis zone... But I agree its an epic!

Hyper Sonic - July 16, 2006 06:51 PM (GMT)
Indeed, I took one look at it the first time I played it and said this is big. I mean, it's not as big as it first was for me, but it's still pretty epic.

As for Sandopolis, I used to hate it, now I think it's pretty fun.

I hate Carnival Night though, annoying music, annoying level, all the above just sucks. Except for the bosses, those were cool in Carnival Night.

Amesuki - July 16, 2006 07:16 PM (GMT)
Yearh Carnvinal Night was a pain...

Hyper Sonic - July 16, 2006 07:19 PM (GMT)
Indeed.... as it has many elements to it that set you back or push you down. Or things where your required to do a set action countless amount of times in order to pass it.

Super Missile - July 16, 2006 07:28 PM (GMT)
It took me at least 8 minutes to finish Carnival Night Zone Act 2.

Hyper Sonic - July 16, 2006 07:38 PM (GMT)
I think it was about the same time for me. Becuz of that damn spinning drum.

Vgamex(old account) - July 17, 2006 02:26 AM (GMT)
I loved that game too. I can remember when I was 8, I could not figure out how to get past that part on Carnival Night Zone act 2 as talked about earlier. Then when I was 16 I played it on an emulator after not playing it for a while and I figured it out. I felt so dumb! I had trouble with Sandopolis too a long time ago when I just played the Sonic & Knuckles levels.

When I got the complete ending though I was amazed at the creativity and amount of fun the Doomsday zone was or whatever it was called. It was fun and so were the bonus rounds. It's too bad they can't seem to make a game that great anymore...

Hyper Sonic - July 17, 2006 02:39 AM (GMT)
Yes indeed it is a shame. Games like Sonic The Hedgehog 3 And Knuckles aren't common. Many pale in comparison to Sonic 3 and Knuckles.

Inexoribly Doomsday was a creative and fun zone. I liked how they used that for the ending boss. Perhaps my favorite level was Doomsday, other then that, Death Egg. I loved the concept of Hyper Sonic. It was such a suprise to use him once I collected all 7 Super Emeralds.

Though... I wish they would put some of the levels they had in 2P in S3AK. Chrome Gadget's a masterpiece.I've thought about it and agree upon it that they should make it a real level in the near future for the next gen games.

Sonow Hakura - July 17, 2006 01:21 PM (GMT)
Do any of you even know that this game wasnt a Real game?

Vgamex(old account) - July 17, 2006 02:52 PM (GMT)
What do you mean this wasn't a real game? By the way, don't let your killer apple eat me. It looks really hungry for noobs...

Hyper Sonic - July 17, 2006 04:46 PM (GMT)
He means that Sonic The Hedgehog 3 And Knuckles technically isn't a real video game game becuz it's merely a connection between Sonic The Hedgehog 3 And Sonic and Knuckles.

Technically it is a game, becuz it serves as one once those 2 are connected. It's technically a video game of it's own. Sonic The Hedgeghog 3 and Knuckles is "The Death Egg Saga". Without Sonic 3, and with Sonic and Knuckles, the Death Egg Saga cannot be complete. They are 2 halves of a whole. Think about it.... How long are both? Only 6 zones for Sonic 3, and 8 zones for Sonic and Knuckles Quite short without them completing eachother.

I for one count Sonic The Hedgehog 3 connected to Sonic And Knuckles as one game in a whole.

GoldenSama - July 18, 2006 01:56 AM (GMT)
According to Wikipedia, originally Sonic 3 and Sonic & Knuckles were two completely seperate games -- however, they were made at the same time by Sega on the same game engine.

Later it was changed to Sonic 3 & Knuckles, which is basically both games compacted togethered into a single game, with a few changes -- such as allowing you to play as Knuckles in Sonic 3 levels.

According to Wikipedia, Sega considers all three seperate games. Sonic 3, Sonic & Knuckles and Sonic 3 & Knuckles are considered seperate games that tell the same story. The main different is, with Sonic 3 & Knuckles, you get the whole story in one game, rather than having two seperate catragides.

Hyper Sonic - July 18, 2006 03:21 AM (GMT)
Good point... I see what your saying now.

Vgamex(old account) - July 19, 2006 01:41 AM (GMT)
Well, I don't care WHAT the heck it is... It was really fun! :D

Hyper Sonic - July 19, 2006 01:44 AM (GMT)
You got that right. This game is my all time favorite. My second favorite would probably be Sonic Adventure 2 Battle.

Vgamex(old account) - July 19, 2006 02:15 AM (GMT)
The only problem I had with Sonic Adventure 2 Battle was that you couldn't stay with one same character through the game. Though it was still fun. There was a glitch where I fell through the floor randomly and just fell forever!

But I'm taking this too far off topic, so Sonic 3 & Knuckles will always have a place in my heart as one of the great Sonic games.

Exactly what i was saying, Sonic 3 and Knuckles was never released on the genesis Thats why it actually wasnt a real game, Sonic 3 and Knuckles was Actually Released on the PC then on Sonic Mega Collection. But anyway it was pretty boring for me because its was pretty much the Same as Sonic 3

Vgamex(old account) - July 20, 2006 02:08 PM (GMT)
Well what do you want us to call it? "The Sonic game a lot of people like and was created with a Sonic & Knuckles cartridge inserted in the Genesis and having the Sonic 3 game inserted to the top of it?" The way you're talking... you are making it sound like we're talking about an imaginary game. I DO get what you guys are actually talking about though. I knew it wasn't an actual game by itself needing both Sonic & Knuckles and Sonic 3 to make it. I thought it was cool though, because it merged the two and seemed to put it together nicely making one long storyline. :D

But still....

even though it wasn't technically meant to be a full game, it can be considered one once they are both connected.

I don't care if they were originally meant to be that way. Because the title changed to "Sonic The Hedgehot 3 And Knuckles" on the title screen when you connected them.

By technicalities they weren't a whole game, but when compacted together they can make a whole game, regaurdless of them being the same either way with slight changes.

I still won't say "I like Sonic The Hedgehog 3 connected to Sonic and Knuckles in to make one cartridge game", because first of all that's just a waste of my good time and second of all it does no harm to call it Sonic The Hedgehog 3 and Knuckles because it was CALLED that on the title screen itself when you connected both and went to the title screen.

Technically we can call it that and a game.

And there's no need to nit pick about this anyway.

Who gives a damn whatever the hell you call it?

It doesn't change the experience you had when playing it now did it? You play you beat it, end of story.

We know very well what your talking about and we know it wasn't a whole game from the beginning, but when you connect both and they transcend into eachother visa-vi the first stage of Sonic and Knuckles being "stage 7", it can technically be called "Sonic The Hedgehog 3 and Knuckles". I mean, even when you connect them after beating Sonic 3, you can transcend the last level of Sonic 3 to the first in Sonic and Knuckles as stage 7.

And also, when you connected them, they are pretty much the same storyline either way. Once you beat Launch Base you fall into Mushroom Hill. They are both one story. Not seperate stories. Because your still on Angel Island regaurdless.

We aren't stupid, we know very well what you were talking about from the beginning.
I've been playing Sonic games since I was 5 years old, I know all of this.

But again, who cares? I don't. I really don't care. Call it what you want, the storyline remains thusly the same, it remains "Sonic The Hedgehog 3 and Knuckles".

The way I see it is, if they stay on Angel Island the whole time it's basically one whole storyline. Now come on Sonow, should we really be sitting here argueing about this endlessly. Lets stop. I hate debates. And it's really not necessary for us to be even debating such a simple subject.

My thoughts exactly Vgamex. Whether they were 2 seperate cartridges or not, they were one whole storyline.

Dude, if you keep Typing that much, your fingers are going to fall off XD

Hyper Sonic - July 21, 2006 03:08 AM (GMT)
... My arms hurt all the time!! >_<

AHH!! and I'm playing Super Dragon Ball Z! That game takes a toll on them too.

ironically my fingers don't get the most abuse, it's my arms. >_<

Vgamex(old account) - July 21, 2006 03:18 AM (GMT)
How do you end up getting your arms to hurt?

I know the feeling... I remember when my fingers hurt when I had the brilliant idea to beat Sonic 3 & Knuckles 100% in one sitting. Also, I had a friend who played DBZ Budokai, and he played it ALL night and I woke up with him still playing it and his fingers were literally bleeding. (I don't know... I was trying my best to keep this thread on topic but it's so easy to get off topic.)

Hyper Sonic - July 22, 2006 06:03 AM (GMT)
Damn straight, convo's are like that. Wait, he tried to complete ALL STORIES IN ONE NIGHT?!!

Or... just one?

Because if he tried to beat Sonic, Knuckles, Tails, and Sonic and Tails toghether with all Super Emeralds and the whole game beat in one sitting, I'd say he's flat out crazy!

Vgamex(old account) - July 22, 2006 03:26 PM (GMT)
You must of misread that part, because I said it was ME that tried it! And yes I tried it... What??? There was like three feet of snow on the ground and 20 below outside! What else could I have done?

I did Sonic, then Tails, then gave up at the second level of Knuckles... It was nuts though. I had over 1,500,000 points and 93 lives on the Sonic file. :P

Hyper Sonic - July 22, 2006 05:56 PM (GMT)
oh..... eh... sorry.... Vgamex... :o

But man lol! You were going to do all of that in one sitting. True... you were snowed in... but... I usually at least take some breaks lol! :D

Yes, I don't know if it was S3 or S3+K, but I got stuck there!! There was a thing you bounce on and there was like no way to get past it!!

Vgamex(old account) - July 25, 2006 12:29 AM (GMT)
It was so funny how easy, yet so hard that was to figure out. Back when I was 8, I don't think I could have figured that out to save my life!

I'd just play and wrack my brain and watch helplessly as my time kept climbing up.

Hyper Sonic - July 25, 2006 02:46 AM (GMT)
What happend to leaving Vgamex lol?

Anyway, I played this game when I was a little older. I got it pretty late. Basically when I was younger I didn't have enough money to get both Sega and Nintendo 64. I saved most of my money for N64. I got this game when I was...... oh say... I think 12 or so. I don't exactly remember, but well old enough to not exactly have too much trouble.

Don't get me wrong though, when I first played it, I thought it was pretty damn intense. Though I am comparing it to my only experience to Sonic before this, which was Sonic The Hedgehog and Sonic The Hedgehog 2.

Well what was the solution? I never got past it, I just entered debug mode and moved myself below it. :D

Vgamex(old account) - July 26, 2006 04:24 PM (GMT)
Up and Down on the D-pad (but it had to be timed well). I felt like an idiot when I figured that out. I think I was 14 (almost 5 yrs. ago) and I was playing it on my emulator when I figured it out after not playing for a long time.

Hyper Sonic - July 26, 2006 06:01 PM (GMT)
That as tough the first time. I used Super Sonic, and I spin dashed under it once I got it high enough.

Vgamex(old account) - July 26, 2006 06:53 PM (GMT)
I recently figured out that strategy myself. I also heard someone on another message board had one of those autofire controllers and turned on the autofire jump button with a bubble shield to get down there. I never have tried that nor had an autofire controller, so I wouldn't know if that worked or not.

Hyper Sonic - July 27, 2006 01:12 AM (GMT)
I am assuming it maks Sonic jump hella fast?

Unknown? - July 27, 2006 02:37 AM (GMT)
Yes it does. It's weird... I've done that before.

Vgamex(old account) - July 28, 2006 04:00 PM (GMT)
So it DOES work then... That's interesting that there are apparently so many ways to get past that part and many of us couldn't do or figure out ANY of them!

Hyper Sonic - July 29, 2006 04:15 AM (GMT)
I had one glitch in this game in which I skipped a majority of the first act of Flying Battery, but it was by accident. Now I can never do it again. And it also automatically led me to a giant special stage ring.

Did you just start right there immediately, or did you walk/fall through a wall. If you had to walk there it could have been a secret path since it leads you to a special stage. I don't know though, it probably was a glitch.

I remember a glitch in Balloon Park (one of the multiplayer levels), where I went through the top and just ran straight across above the screen and got a total time of only 11 seconds!

Hyper Sonic - July 30, 2006 01:31 AM (GMT)
Heh cool glitch lol!

Yeah I ran through the wall for that glitch.

There's another one that's quite interesting, but I hate it at the same time.

The Casino Night Zone Glitch. At some point you fall through something, down and down you go. Now, when you fall, you are in this area with many many platforms, and one on the ground. If you keep running, you will run for forever. Now, if your Knuckles, and you glide, you'd hit a wall. Of course, if you climb up, you'll just hit the ceiling. There's no way out of this place.

And I think if you jump up the platforms you go forever, I forgot. Anyway it's quite cool, but creepy at the same time.
