Description: time to take your side

Latin is by far the most important language in the hisotry of mankind, it brought us many of today's lanuages, and is even still spoken by some cultures.

I would have to go with English for the sole reason that it could be spoken along side with different emotions easily. Like some languages people could be speaking calmly but it seems their angry and that doesn't happen often with english. (I have an automatic bias because i only know enlgish and a little spanish)

Kisame Hoshigaki - April 19, 2008 09:50 PM (GMT)
I would say English because a lot of people speak it. It also is important to learn in order to communicate with americans if your a immigrant.

Psychron - April 19, 2008 09:53 PM (GMT)
By that same logic, how is Latin not the best? It helps English people better understand other languages.

Green_480 - April 21, 2008 03:33 PM (GMT)
How is that a bad thing?

Psychron - April 21, 2008 09:41 PM (GMT)
immature, greeny.. immature... editing posts? c'mon now.. dont pull a vermon

Green_480 - April 21, 2008 10:28 PM (GMT)
I didn't edit your post, i was confused by the fact that you changed you opinion from latin to english.

I'm not sure of how latin helps us understand other languages(i don't know much about latin) Enlighten me.

think of the word lucrative
what's it mean, without looking?

well, the latin word it's rooted from, lucra, means profit
therefore, lucrative means profitable

et cetera

latin

"and the others" or "and the rest"

Green_480 - April 21, 2008 11:10 PM (GMT)
I know latin has strong ties to english but what about other languages?

Psychron - April 22, 2008 12:14 AM (GMT)
German is modeled quite literally in the mirror opposite way of Latin
in german, the W is pronounced like a V
in latin, the V is pronounced like a W

and many other aspects
Italian, is almost thoroughly latin.
as is spanish

French can find it's roots in latin as well.

Green_480 - April 22, 2008 01:15 AM (GMT)
So would you rather speak english or latin?

Psychron - April 22, 2008 02:08 AM (GMT)
i speak both ^_^

Green_480 - April 22, 2008 06:59 PM (GMT)
If you had to choose one which one would you choose. Which one sounds better?

Psychron - April 22, 2008 08:56 PM (GMT)
Latin is easier to speak, and their sentences are much much simpler

but English can describe and project feeling in much more detail

so i use a mix of both

honestly, sometimes by accident, ill burst out something in english-latin

Green_480 - April 22, 2008 10:58 PM (GMT)
why do you know latin?

Psychron - April 23, 2008 02:06 AM (GMT)
i've been studying it for 2 years, about to enter my 3rd

Green_480 - April 25, 2008 03:23 PM (GMT)
Do you really like it, cuz i did spanish for a long time and didn't really learn much

Psychron - April 25, 2008 09:50 PM (GMT)
that's you couldnt find enjoyment in it.
if you find enjoyment in something, it's amazing how much you can learn from it.

Green_480 - April 25, 2008 11:43 PM (GMT)
Yea i know thats why i asked, but i did like some parts of spanish and those things i learned easy.

Hey is it hard to write in latin?

Psychron - April 26, 2008 12:29 PM (GMT)
do you know the english alphabet? can you write in all caps? then no

Green_480 - April 26, 2008 03:40 PM (GMT)

Psychron - April 26, 2008 10:14 PM (GMT)
ET CETERI
IN ACTIS DIURNIS IAMDUDUM ES CELEBRATUS
VIVITE BENE

that's latin

Green_480 - April 26, 2008 10:58 PM (GMT)

Psychron - April 26, 2008 11:03 PM (GMT)
And so on (and the others)
You're yesterday's news
Live well!

Green_480 - April 26, 2008 11:15 PM (GMT)
oh i knew that first word looked like something i knew and that last one is like spanish "vivir"=to live and "bien"=good....i guess latin is in spanish too.

Psychron - April 27, 2008 02:00 AM (GMT)
yup.. that's because.... spanish... CAME FROM LATIN...
so did italian, which is why half of that is just like italian

J'Quan - April 27, 2008 10:59 PM (GMT)
English because its used alot

Psychron - April 27, 2008 11:45 PM (GMT)
Someone please define English and what it is made of.

Itachi14666 - April 28, 2008 04:23 PM (GMT)
Japanese is the best language.

Green_480 - April 30, 2008 10:28 PM (GMT)
why do you think that.

English is composed of lots of things.

Psychron - May 31, 2008 05:16 AM (GMT)
English is a mottled assortment of nearly every language on Earth. I still stand by Latin, but I add ancient Greek.
