I was looking at that earlier, too much (for me) for just a brochure but it looks cool!

Damn, I could use it for the precise blueprints for my 3D model!
That said, anyone got blueprints of a 153 peterbilt ? or the original truck where they added the axel to? I think it was the 281?

That's interesting. The 351 picture looks more like the Duel Truck than the 281! If you look at the horns etc.

Are we all sure that the surviving truck REALLY is a 281 and not a 351?!

Every Pete back then was built to the customers specs. The standard setup was a horn in the middle with the options of having 1 above the door, 1 above each door , 1 on top or 2 on top or none on top.

The 281 was prolly on the line ready to be sent to a customer so they used it for a pic.

I bet they sure were good looking brand new.

It's funny because I actually prefer them when they're looking like the one from Duel!

kids, kids, kids....

In Peterbilt nomenclature that originated around 1950 with the model 280 and 350, "28" means single drive and "35" means tandem drive. The original and back-up Duel trucks are both 281's as they have a single drive with a non-driving tag axle. The truck used for the added scenes appears to have come from Newark designated as a 351 as it has dual driving axles.

There was no model number designation change between the old 281/351 series from 1954 through 1962 and the subsequent 281/351 series with the UniLite cabs from 1962 through 1972. The cabs chagned again in November 1972, yet the 281/351 designation continued into 1976. Peterbilt dropped the "28/35" differentiation in the late 70's, referring to both single and tandem drives using the "35" series.
