Title: TSF's Sprites
Teh_Smashed_Fish - October 6, 2009 11:59 AM (GMT)
Gonna post some sprites here.

My first edit! Ephraiam(FE8)'s Lord pose, recolored, with a custom axe. Credit for Ephraiam sheet to Bonzai. Also my avvie, until I make a better one.

My final version of the above sprite. Ish a lot better now.

This is my first themed sprite. (It's a Headless Paladin for Halloween.)I'm going to make a sheet, as soon as I get a drawing program with a recolorer. Paladin sheet- credit to Grim.

Not bad, the shadow's a little big, the ax could use a little work on shading (I hate making axes, they're tough), and the hair needs better shading. Just some little stuff

K, thanks. Actually, would it work if I just re-tone the hair? (just curious.)
Renegade - October 6, 2009 11:48 PM (GMT)
No. He said the axe needs work, and I agree too. Shading the hair won't magically fix it all.
Speaking of which, the hair looks a bit flat.
Isaac55 - October 7, 2009 02:18 AM (GMT)

Axe: The shape makes the axe look really dull. The shading can be improved as well. The tiny axe next to it Armads. I recommend using that to guide you while re-shading.
Shadow: You don't need that much shadow, weapons require only a small amount of shadow.
Hair: That corner black pixel shouldn't be there. It makes the hair look flat(ish).
Hand: This isn't really a huge problem, but a suggestion would be to add black pixels (I know... I'm racist) to the left of the hand, making the hand look larger than the pole.
I like the concept, keep it up.
hpty603 - October 7, 2009 11:49 PM (GMT)
Actually, the hair is just fine, the colors just need to be more different. Most guy's heads use that 'extra' pixel on the corner

I'll agree with that.
Teh_Smashed_Fish - October 9, 2009 11:50 AM (GMT)
Well, thanks for the feedback, I guess. (sigh) Back to fixing...
EDIT
Which is better?

OR
Tygr - October 9, 2009 06:30 PM (GMT)
I say... hmm... dunno... lower.
and nice one for the first edit btw.

Lucius - October 9, 2009 06:41 PM (GMT)
Axe still looks dull IMO.
Teh_Smashed_Fish - October 9, 2009 07:11 PM (GMT)
Christ on a bike! I hate my life.
Sharpness-wise or color-wise? I've been fixin' the colors the whole time...
Here's a lighter axe.

Christ on a bike! I hate my life.
Lucius - October 9, 2009 07:16 PM (GMT)

Like that.

You asked ´´Which is better´´... (upper or lower).
b0nest0rm99 - October 9, 2009 08:20 PM (GMT)
Lucius: still wrong. It's got a good shape, but it has to have a
bar of white along the blade's edge like in the picture of Hector's
that someone posted earlier.
Lucius - October 9, 2009 09:08 PM (GMT)
I know, I was just "pointing" out that the edges should look sharper.
Renegade - October 10, 2009 04:18 AM (GMT)
Then circle or highlight it, don't just post a sprite, expecting him to get the point.

Oh yeah.
Sorry I've been out- I had a case of pleurisy. And I will almost never be on on weekends due to certain things. I've fixed the sprite, btw, I just have to post it to Photobucket and post here.
EDIT: Here ya go!

...Now what?
Halloween sprites, methinks. I'm planning a headless goth Paladin and a Shooper!
Renegade - October 13, 2009 09:14 PM (GMT)
Try some mug splices, or maybe some more battler splices to get spriting down-pat.
l33tn3ss - October 13, 2009 09:33 PM (GMT)
Well- okay, then. Any beginner's guides that anyone finds useful?
Tygr - October 13, 2009 09:46 PM (GMT)
l33tn3ss - October 14, 2009 11:26 AM (GMT)
Thanks!
EDIT:

Happy halloween, all! I was going to save it to post on Halloween, but I decided it too risky- etc. I might not be here.
l33tn3ss - October 19, 2009 11:57 AM (GMT)
Sorry for the double post, everybody! I feel so guilty...
But, there's this!

Ish my first mug splice! It's supposed to be loosely based on me or so.
EDIT: Holy shit! I'm a member!
Tygr - October 19, 2009 01:59 PM (GMT)
That doesn't look bad at all, but I think red is bit too shiny or something... maybe.
l33tn3ss - October 19, 2009 03:16 PM (GMT)
Too bright, perhaps? I'll work on it.
BTW, I need to say this NOW. Any and all credit for original sheets that I use is available on my Photobucket page, under the name otakutails777.
Renegade - October 20, 2009 09:29 AM (GMT)
Hooray, you got 50 posts. Let's have a party.
As for the mug, the colors seem a bit oversaturated. Try making them more grey.
l33tn3ss - October 20, 2009 11:42 AM (GMT)
*passes out sammiches to everyone at party* W00T!
Less saturation, you say? Ah well, back to editing.
Renegade - October 20, 2009 07:55 PM (GMT)
l33tn3ss - October 20, 2009 10:49 PM (GMT)
Well, I happen to like sammiches. Now just critique my sprites and stop saying things that you know will hurt me. :,(
Okay, not a sprite, but this makes the other one a bit better because you can tell what I tried to make. PROTIP: When spriting on graph paper, use a 1/4 scale.

I've had this unfinished for a while and decided spur-of-the-moment to finish it. It's my very first full custom sprite! (Or maybe my second, but the first is a tad bit not done yet.)
Ragnarok - October 20, 2009 10:53 PM (GMT)
Lol, I've sprited on graph paper before. For FE standards, your sprite is too short and lacks detail and shading. But as far as full customs go everyone's gotta start somewhere. I'm interested to see what you'll do next.
l33tn3ss - October 21, 2009 12:54 AM (GMT)
Positive comment from FES legend w00t! As for shading, I did shade it, but it's really hard to see. I don't have time to fix it now, but for now, magnify it a bit.
THE MODIFICATION THAT I AM ADDING TO THIS POST: O, FES member known to the general public as Ragnarok, I apologize for not fixing the size and shading of my custom Fire Emblem-inspired sword-wielding miniature pixelated person immediately, but I had to go undress and stand under quite well-heated water falling from a metal spout for approximately 5 minutes while applying and washing out assorted-colored gel-like chemical compounds to the visible ends of my strands of hair in an attempt to make myself cleaner and more acceptable to the general real-world public.
Crap, lost the game.
Tygr - October 21, 2009 10:18 AM (GMT)
Hmm... pretty interesting for first full custom I think and putting random sprite next of full custom may help some... at least it helped me a lot with head ^^'
l33tn3ss - October 21, 2009 11:31 PM (GMT)
Well, Tygr, I didn't even read that and ended up doing it anyway, lol.

Here it is! Zoom if you can't see the shading.

Yes, really. I remembered that this was supposed to be me, and, after all that work, I remembered also that swords are cooler then axes imo.

i dont think its possible for him to hold a sword like that unless he's magical. neways i see that your improving as a spriter. i know those custom legs are heck of an annoyance, i just did one. keep it up :D
l33tn3ss - October 22, 2009 12:10 AM (GMT)
Thanks!
Oh yeah, I just remembered. Does anyone have anything to say about the headless Paladin on page two and my sig?

yeah i cant really tell where his head's SUPPOSED to be.
there's not that much work involved in that.
