Which is better? I know that Druids have more power, but they're heavy tomes way Ewan down. Sages have less, but have more speed. Which is better?

Nothing will really be fast enough to make tha weight issue to serious, plus he can still use anima tome if it really is a problem. I generally go for summoner with him though.

I always, always, always make him a druid. Dark > Light by far. Uber WTA.

Druid. Dark+Anima>>>>>>>>>>>>Anima+Light

If Excalibur is really your main reason then he can still wield it as a Druid.

I use Lute as my Sage. She might not be as good with Sexcalibur, but that's ok. Ewan is great as a druid, the best dark magic user in the game, probably better than Lyon, but... During the maingame, you either have Knoll or Ewan. I wouldn't use Ewan because it requires Tower Abuse, but go ahead and make him a Druid.

I like to use use Ewan as a Druid because Lute is my Excalibur user. THough I always love to have as many light users as possible, Ewan needs to help out Knoll with Dark magic.

I personally go with Druids.
Dark = Cooler.

Either way, I think they're about even.
So, I go with what's cooler.

I think the real choice is between Summoner vs. Druid. IMO Ewan makes a better Summoner than Knoll does, whom I make a Druid.

When I use them, I make Knoll a Summoner and Ewan a Druid. D=
