Title: The "End" Of the Universe - MSN Debaet

Gennaro Cucalón says:

Khriss says:
| :
Gennaro Cucalón says:
u sed the universe was infinite
Gennaro Cucalón says:
And it isn't
Gennaro Cucalón says:
|:
Khriss says:
orly?
Khriss says:
How do you know?
Gennaro Cucalón says:
yarly
Gennaro Cucalón says:
It keeps expanding, but it isn't infinite
Gennaro Cucalón says:
Basic Physics |:
Khriss says:
Who came up with this?
Khriss says:
Because I can ASSURE YOU
Gennaro Cucalón says:
Albert Einstein
Khriss says:
That nobody went to the end of the universe
Khriss says:
Even Albert Einstein
Gennaro Cucalón says:
He thought it was infinite, but after that
Gennaro Cucalón says:
he was proved wrong
Gennaro Cucalón says:
By his own equations about Law of Conservation of Energy
Khriss says:
And if it keeps expanding, then in a sense it is infinite
Gennaro Cucalón says:
You could say so, but technically, it isn't
Gennaro Cucalón says:
Not like it matters
Gennaro Cucalón says:
but yeah
Khriss says:
Why isn't it?
Khriss says:
Does it ever stop expanding?
Gennaro Cucalón says:
No
Khriss says:
Because if it doesn't then it's infinite
Gennaro Cucalón says:
It /has/ a beginning aand it /has/ an end
Khriss says:
So?
Gennaro Cucalón says:
Inifinite things don't have either
Khriss says:
If they can't be represented and the Universe will constantly expand
Gennaro Cucalón says:
They can
Khriss says:
Then it is impossible to pinpoint it has either
Gennaro Cucalón says:
Physics
Gennaro Cucalón says:
Math
Gennaro Cucalón says:
Big Bang Theory
Khriss says:
Give me a single number to say how big the Universe is
Gennaro Cucalón says:
Photographs
Khriss says:
If you can't
Khriss says:
Then lol
Khriss says:
Photographs?
Khriss says:
ROFL
Gennaro Cucalón says:
I don't know it, nub |:
Khriss says:
There isn't one
Khriss says:
Because
Khriss says:
"It's constantly expanding"
Khriss says:
It would take an equation
Gennaro Cucalón says:
Yeah, there is a satellite with a telescope that was sent to space about 30 years ago, but I don't remember the name of it.
Gennaro Cucalón says:
Trough it you can see stuff
Khriss says:
It didn't go to the end of the universe
Khriss says:
It didn't even leave our Galaxy iirc
Khriss says:
So how would it be able to see all that far?
Khriss says:
It isn't going to start it's journey out until '10 I believe
Gennaro Cucalón says:
However, since the speed of light takes time, you are technically seeing the past, and using the correct queations, it is in contact expanding and has a beginning and an end
Khriss says:
You lost me at "in contact expanding"
Gennaro Cucalón says:
Constant, not contact *
Khriss says:
oh
Khriss says:
Well, then, there's no set beginning or end
Gennaro Cucalón says:
Not like it's possible to /travel/ all the universe, but it was just a notification
Khriss says:
So I would say that's infinite, because it is growing
Gennaro Cucalón says:
But
Gennaro Cucalón says:
It's finite
Gennaro Cucalón says:
It has a beginning
Gennaro Cucalón says:

Khriss says:
It has no end
Gennaro Cucalón says:
So?
Gennaro Cucalón says:
That's finite
Gennaro Cucalón says:
|:
Gennaro Cucalón says:
Infinite haz no beginning and no end
Khriss says:
No, I belive finite means you need and end
Gennaro Cucalón says:

Gennaro Cucalón says:
oyah
Gennaro Cucalón says:
nvm
Gennaro Cucalón says:
but yeah
Gennaro Cucalón says:
it's finite
Gennaro Cucalón says:
Since
Gennaro Cucalón says:
You can reach the end
Gennaro Cucalón says:
Well, you can't, but in a not literal way
Gennaro Cucalón says:
And it takes like 100 years for it to expand 2 inches
Gennaro Cucalón says:
: D
Khriss says:
If you hit the "end" then you haven't
Khriss says:
Because it keeps going
Khriss says:
Thanks to the growth
Khriss says:
sources plz
Khriss says:
And I don't want human sources
Khriss says:
I want ****ing alien sources that have been to the end of the universe
Khriss says:
The "end"
Gennaro Cucalón says:
Lawlnub
Gennaro Cucalón says:
What a stubborn bish
Khriss says:
I just can't believe you when you say things about the "end" of the universe because I know you've never been there/seen it
Gennaro Cucalón says:
It's math >_>
Gennaro Cucalón says:
And it's impossible to get to the end of the universe
Gennaro Cucalón says:
Not because it's growing
Gennaro Cucalón says:
But because of the space time
Khriss says:
Then case closed
Khriss says:
You _can't_ know what you're talking about
Khriss says:
Nobody can
Gennaro Cucalón says:
As you are traveling in what you believe is a straight line, it is actually bending around you
Khriss says:
It's all theory
Gennaro Cucalón says:
Better than anything you have  ; D
Gennaro Cucalón says:
I >>> in physicz
Khriss says:
No, I'm pretty sure plenty of people would say the universe is infinite
Gennaro Cucalón says:
They are all wrong |:
Khriss says:
no u
Gennaro Cucalón says:
Go study
Gennaro Cucalón says:
And then we talk
Gennaro Cucalón says:
: D
Khriss says:
What happens at the "end" of this universe, then?
Khriss says:
If you touch it
Khriss says:
Is it like glass?
Gennaro Cucalón says:
I dunno, go do it and then you tell me : D
Khriss says:
Because from what I believe
Khriss says:
you would
Khriss says:
keep goig
Khriss says:
right through your "end"
Gennaro Cucalón says:
Add my physics teacher to MSN and debate with him
Gennaro Cucalón says:
And no, because you can't touch the end due to space time
Gennaro Cucalón says:
Nub
Khriss says:
But lets say you could
Khriss says:
And right now
Khriss says:
You're telling me
Khriss says:
"You can't hit the end"
Khriss says:
Hey, sounds like infinite
Gennaro Cucalón says:
Doesn't mean it isn't there
Gennaro Cucalón says:
Can you see oxygen with your bare eye?
Khriss says:
Yeah
Khriss says:
It's clear
Gennaro Cucalón says:
Can you touch it?
Gennaro Cucalón says:
I bet it isn't there
Gennaro Cucalón says:
I can't see it
Khriss says:
I can touch it
Khriss says:
It's light
Gennaro Cucalón says:
What does it feel like?
Khriss says:
Something that our bodies have adjusted to so that we can't even tell it's there
Gennaro Cucalón says:
It has a mass of 3 amu, so I supposse it must be pretty light
Gennaro Cucalón says:
Exactly
Gennaro Cucalón says:
If you didn't need oxtygen to survive
Gennaro Cucalón says:
And you were in a room without it
Gennaro Cucalón says:
Would you feel the difference?
Khriss says:
Yes
Khriss says:
Hell yes
Gennaro Cucalón says:
lolno
Khriss says:
Not all gases look like oxygen
Khriss says:
/feel like oxygen
Khriss says:
And if there was no gases in the room
Khriss says:
Then I'd feel it a lot more
Gennaro Cucalón says:
I didn't say no gases
Gennaro Cucalón says:
Just no oxygen
Khriss says:
...
Khriss says:
That's why I countered both
Khriss says:
Khriss says:
Not all gases look like oxygen
Khriss says:
/feel like oxygen
Gennaro Cucalón says:
You feel gases
Gennaro Cucalón says:
Awesome
Khriss says:
I personally may not notice a difference, but that doesn't mean that I'm not technically feeling the difference
Khriss says:
It's like going from carrying 1000 pounds to 1001
Khriss says:
you won't notice
Khriss says:
but it's there
Gennaro Cucalón says:
So
Gennaro Cucalón says:
You just finished the debate
Gennaro Cucalón says:
bout the end of the universe.
Gennaro Cucalón says:
Khriss dice:
you won't notice
Khriss dice:
but it's there
Khriss says:
What about it?
Gennaro Cucalón says:
It /is/ there
Gennaro Cucalón says:
I won
Gennaro Cucalón says:
: D
Khriss says:
I was talking about weight,,,
Khriss says:
I'm not seeing how this relates to being able to go to the end of the universe
Khriss says:
Because you're telling me there's no way to relate to it
Khriss says:
Not even TECHNICALLY
Khriss says:
Whereas with weight
Khriss says:
There TECHNICALLY is a difference
Gennaro Cucalón says:
That both are there, just not recognizable
Khriss says:
Just you GENERALLY won't be able to tell because the difference is so minute
Khriss says:
The weight has the ability to be recognized
Gennaro Cucalón says:
Get over it
Khriss says:
No
Khriss says:
You're argument makes no sense
Gennaro Cucalón says:
It does
Khriss says:
That analogy doesn't work
Gennaro Cucalón says:
You just don't know ur physicz
Khriss says:
You don't know logice
Khriss says:
logic even
Khriss says:
Sorry, french
Gennaro Cucalón says:
lawl
Gennaro Cucalón says:
Go to wikipedia
Gennaro Cucalón says:
And look for it
Gennaro Cucalón says:
; D
Khriss says:
Already did
Khriss says:
While we were talking
Gennaro Cucalón says:
Ah
Gennaro Cucalón says:
Found it?
Khriss says:
I did End of the Universe, Space Time, and Euclid
Gennaro Cucalón says:
End of the U came with anything?
Khriss says:
Just theories
Khriss says:
Nothing that was like "I did this, this is what happens"
Gennaro Cucalón says:
Lawl
Gennaro Cucalón says:
LAWL
Gennaro Cucalón says:
It is mathecally proved, and image proved, so, rly...
Gennaro Cucalón says:
How can you prove me that the universe IS infinite?
Gennaro Cucalón says:
And it's because of the big band theory
Khriss says:
It's not by either
Gennaro Cucalón says:
An atom containing the 5 forces exploded, and due to this forces, it keeps exanding
Khriss says:
The big band THEORY?
Khriss says:
Huh?
Khriss says:
What?
Khriss says:
/topic
Gennaro Cucalón says:
It didn't explode and out of nothing BANG became infinite
Gennaro Cucalón says:
That would make no sense
Khriss says:
You using a theory to justify your beliefs aren't theories, srsly, wtf
Gennaro Cucalón says:
bang not band*
Gennaro Cucalón says:
Well, it's not a theory anymore
Gennaro Cucalón says:
But I guess it kept the name
Khriss says:
I just copy pasted what you said <__<;;
Khriss says:
It's still a theory
Khriss says:
Because nobody here was alive when the universe happened
Gennaro Cucalón says:
Everything is a theory
Khriss says:
Finally you're getting it
Gennaro Cucalón says:
But it has bases
Gennaro Cucalón says:
Gennaro Cucalón dice:
But it has bases
Khriss says:
So in theory the universe has an end?
Gennaro Cucalón says:
yes
Khriss says:
But nobody can confirm it?
Khriss says:
Then idk
Khriss says:
if you can't touch the end
Gennaro Cucalón says:
and there is more proof than it HAS an end, than that it doesn't
Khriss says:
If nobody can show me the end
Khriss says:
If nobody has been to the end
Gennaro Cucalón says:
I have
Khriss says:
If the end is unreachable
Gennaro Cucalón says:
Been and came back
Khriss says:
Then
Khriss says:
That
Khriss says:
is
Gennaro Cucalón says:

Khriss says:
Infinity
Gennaro Cucalón says:
Infinite has NO end
Khriss says:
From what I just said
Khriss says:
That sounds like no end
Khriss says:
Just what people think is the end
Gennaro Cucalón says:
having no limits or boundaries in time or space or extent or magnitude; "the infinite ingenuity of man"; "infinite wealth"
Gennaro Cucalón says:
Mr. Dictionary definition on infinite
Gennaro Cucalón says:
"having no boundaries"
Gennaro Cucalón says:
It has boundaries
Khriss says:
Are there?
Gennaro Cucalón says:
It's just that they are in constant movement
Khriss says:
Can you find me these boundaries?
Gennaro Cucalón says:
Numbers are infinite
Gennaro Cucalón says:
Because you can continue forever
Khriss says:
You're arguing they aren't
Khriss says:
Double standards ftl
Khriss says:
Numbers can't be infinite
Khriss says:
Because eventually
Gennaro Cucalón says:
No
Khriss says:
They'll fill up the universe, right? rofl
Gennaro Cucalón says:
omg
Gennaro Cucalón says:

Khriss says:
That's what you're telling me
Gennaro Cucalón says:
Numbers are abstract
Gennaro Cucalón says:
And don't have matter
Gennaro Cucalón says:
You can't measure an idea
Khriss says:
Yeah
Khriss says:
It's part of the brain
Khriss says:
/calculator
Khriss says:
/computer
Gennaro Cucalón says:
So they don't occupy a part of space. SO, they won't take up any mass of the universe
Khriss says:
The ones that haven't been reached before
Khriss says:
Don't exist
Khriss says:
Meaning that if you can't hit them
Khriss says:
Numbers are finite
Khriss says:
It's a ridiculously long number, yeah
Khriss says:
Like billions and billions and trillions and trillions
Khriss says:
more
Khriss says:
wayyyyyy more
Gennaro Cucalón says:
So, you need to touch it in order for it to have an end?
Gennaro Cucalón says:

Khriss says:
Trillions of digits
Khriss says:
Not touch necessarily
Khriss says:
But a way to acknowledge it
Gennaro Cucalón says:
Then go read the equations
Khriss says:
Why?
Khriss says:
What will they tell me that's fact and not theory?
Gennaro Cucalón says:
The equation being right is a fact
Khriss says:
No, it's a theory
Khriss says:
The equation is believed to be right
Khriss says:
But it's not a fact
Gennaro Cucalón says:
Then now you are just contradicting everything that has been studied for more than 2000 years
Gennaro Cucalón says:
mmk
Khriss says:
Not everything
Khriss says:
But I don't agree with it
Khriss says:
And I don't see how this makes me wrong
Gennaro Cucalón says:
Go to tell a big famous scientisit "u r wong cuz i can't touch it."
Khriss says:
I'll start with your physics teacher
Khriss says:
What's his MSN?
Gennaro Cucalón says:
Lawl
Khriss says:
...and can he speak English?
Gennaro Cucalón says:
He is britanic
Gennaro Cucalón says:
I won't give you his MSN
Khriss says:
Just because famous scientists theorize what they're saying as being correct doesn't make it correct
Gennaro Cucalón says:
"sup, i am a friend of Gennaro and come here to prove you wrong"..... The next day mah fathers will b all over meh telling me that forums r evil
Gennaro Cucalón says:
****
Khriss says:
I'll just say I have some questions about the universe
Gennaro Cucalón says:
Chatzilla update
Gennaro Cucalón says:
It's taking liek forevar
Khriss says:
We should post this in ID
Gennaro Cucalón says:
Noone in the forum knows this ****, I believe
Khriss says:
sowut
Khriss says:
We'll be able to continue it there
Khriss says:
MSN sux
Gennaro Cucalón says:
I think Morph was good in chemistry, and that about as far as everyone else on the forum can say
Khriss says:
I'll make Swords come back, lulz
Khriss says:
Whatever, can I post it?
Gennaro Cucalón says:
copy paste?
Khriss says:
yah
Gennaro Cucalón says:
It will be a waste of time, but sure
Khriss says:
: )
Gennaro Cucalón says:
I am fairly sure people will just ignore the wall of text x D

Seriously, can you make this readable?

Gennaro - November 12, 2007 10:06 PM (GMT)
DH can read it. Everyone can make an effort to read it. But you can't, because your not developed brain isn't good enough to figure out where a simple thing like a three words nickname begins.

Whoa, I did it before you even posted.

Commander - November 12, 2007 10:12 PM (GMT)
Ok, I cannot read that, but if you need our opinion on how the universe will end, I will give it.

The universe has a barrier that leads to somewhere, when the universe expands to a point where it starts goin inward, it implodes to make another big bang.

Bizox - November 12, 2007 10:20 PM (GMT)
How can you not read that?

It's not /that/ hard.

Anyways, here's the mathematic definition of infinity:

in·fin·i·ty
–noun
the assumed limit of a sequence, series, etc., that increases without bound.

Therefore, if the universe continues to increase without bound, then it is infinite.

Infinity: The word infinity comes from the Latin infinitas or "unboundedness." It refers to several distinct concepts (usually linked to the idea of "without end" or "bigger than the biggest thing you can think of") which arise in philosophy, mathematics, and theology.

:hmm: Our dictionaries do not match.

Diagon Dragnier - November 12, 2007 10:26 PM (GMT)
DragonHellfir3 (1:57:07 PM): Are you good at physics?
SwordsPwnYou (2:01:58 PM): sure, why not
DragonHellfir3 (1:59:38 PM): Is the universe finite?
SwordsPwnYou (2:02:26 PM): yes
DragonHellfir3 (1:59:54 PM): Like, is there proof, or is it just theory?
SwordsPwnYou (2:02:52 PM): we know the universe ends
SwordsPwnYou (2:02:56 PM): we know where it ends
SwordsPwnYou (2:03:08 PM): we don't know what's beyond that
DragonHellfir3 (2:00:44 PM): Is there something beyond it?
SwordsPwnYou (2:03:30 PM): probably not
SwordsPwnYou (2:03:34 PM): just emptiness
DragonHellfir3 (2:01:05 PM): Wouldn't that be part of the universe?
SwordsPwnYou (2:03:52 PM): the universe is matter
SwordsPwnYou (2:03:59 PM): for something to exist, it must exist
SwordsPwnYou (2:04:09 PM): so technically, anything beyond the universe doesn't exist yet
DragonHellfir3 (2:01:54 PM): :hmm:
SwordsPwnYou (2:05:22 PM): to understand the grand scale better we need more insight on the subatomic scale
DragonHellfir3 (2:02:56 PM): How do we know where it ends?
DragonHellfir3 (2:03:25 PM): How do we know it ends altogether?
SwordsPwnYou (2:06:14 PM): we can see where the stars stop
SwordsPwnYou (2:06:36 PM): but we also know that they're moving away from us
DragonHellfir3 (2:04:27 PM): What if stars just have a place where there aren't many left?
DragonHellfir3 (2:04:38 PM): And they start again further away
SwordsPwnYou (2:07:47 PM): gravity ensures semi regular distribution of mass in the universe
DragonHellfir3 (2:05:54 PM): What's outside the atmosphere?
DragonHellfir3 (2:06:01 PM): Immediately, that is
SwordsPwnYou (2:09:34 PM): what atmosphere, earth's?
DragonHellfir3 (2:07:05 PM): Any, don't care
SwordsPwnYou (2:09:45 PM): nothing
DragonHellfir3 (2:07:16 PM): No mass?
SwordsPwnYou (2:09:57 PM): except for maybe some scattered stardust
DragonHellfir3 (2:07:35 PM): So outside an atmosphere the universe doesn't exist?
SwordsPwnYou (2:10:46 PM): it's not verifiable without putting something there
DragonHellfir3 (2:08:36 PM): So does the universe end multiple times?
SwordsPwnYou (2:13:48 PM): the universe is all measurable space-time
SwordsPwnYou (2:14:06 PM): between masses, it's measurable, beyond, it's not
DragonHellfir3 (2:11:53 PM): So everything goes on forever? Otherwise it would be measureable
SwordsPwnYou (2:15:49 PM): I can't say whether "everything" in the broad meaning you use it is finite, but what you asked was if the universe was finite.
DragonHellfir3 (2:13:36 PM): I'm saying everything is the ultimate form. Absolutely everything.
SwordsPwnYou (2:16:22 PM): even nothing?
DragonHellfir3 (2:13:50 PM): Even nothing
SwordsPwnYou (2:16:36 PM): how would you define nothing then
DragonHellfir3 (2:14:13 PM): Nothing
DragonHellfir3 (2:14:27 PM): Has no mass

@Bizox:
SwordsPwnYou (2:23:24 PM): its growth is infinite, not itself
SwordsPwnYou (2:23:46 PM): plus he's using the mathematical definition

That's the philosophical definition.

This is physics, no? You said it was basic physics yourself. And physics is linked in many ways to mathematics.

I gave the mathematical definition. If we're looking at this from a physical and mathematical standpoint, then my definition is more correct than yours in this situation.

That didn't have to do with Physics...

Commander - November 12, 2007 11:59 PM (GMT)
The universe is either open or closed.

If it is closed, then where it ends is just simply a number that we do not know yet and we do not know what kind of matter ends our universe. In this theory, infinity is just another word fo a variable so vast, we cannot comprehend the number.

if it is an open universe, the universe will no longer sustain life when all the matter that make stars drift so far apart, they cannot join to make them, thus no sun for ET and his pals, thus no life.

Diagon Dragnier - November 13, 2007 06:28 AM (GMT)
There is no end of the universe because once you exit where matter has been, then you're placing new matter (yourself) there and that's expanding the universe to wherever you are. You could travel for an eternity constantly expanding the universe because the end is unreachable. If the end is unreachable then it's infinite. If the end is reachable but expands whenever something happens beyond it (be it ANYTHING that would allow ANY form of measurement) making it unreachable again. There is no way there can ever be an end because when we say there's a set end to it the end is already beyond that.

Dez384 - November 13, 2007 09:33 PM (GMT)
How can the universe not be infinite?

Diagon Dragnier - November 13, 2007 11:42 PM (GMT)
QUOTE (Dez384 @ Nov 13 2007, 01:33 PM)
How can the universe not be infinite?

The universe is all measurably matter, so in a sense where we stop seeing/being able to measure matter is the end of the universe.

However it's impossible for the end to ever occur to anything, so it's infinite.

Commander - November 14, 2007 12:05 AM (GMT)
So your saying we say it's infinite because we have no technology to see beyond the edge of our universe.

QUOTE (Commander @ Nov 13 2007, 04:05 PM)
So your saying we say it's infinite because we have no technology to see beyond the edge of our universe.

There _can't_ be technology to see beyond the universe because whatever we're seeing is instantly becoming part of the universe. The universe does have an end, but it doesn't end.

I need a damn analogy.

Commander - November 14, 2007 12:29 AM (GMT)
We could call it the new found area of the universe.

What if there is nothing out there? What if the universe has not expanded to that point yet?

Diagon Dragnier - November 14, 2007 12:35 AM (GMT)
There _is_ nothing out there. However, there's also _nothing_ in between galaxies and such. The universe is everything that can be measured on one scale or another. Everything including nothing.

The new found area of the universe would still be the universe.

the totality of known or supposed objects and phenomena throughout space; the cosmos; macrocosm.

So technically I guess there can't be anything beyond the universe, by definition?

Perhaps there's another term that includes empty space, but I dunno what it is offhand.

it is simply a void

Any contact with it makes something take place.

Okay, so if you're lookin' at it it's part of the universe, but otherwise it's not.

Still not quite infinite.

You could look beyond the universe. There will just be nothing there. But, like stated in DH's posted conversations, its growth is infinite, so there will eventually be something there.

Besides, like DH said before, if you go beyond where no other form of matter is measured, you, yourself, are expanding the universe, and will not reach an end. If you cannot reach an end, it is infinite.

It would be more interesting if people asked questions DH or Swords didn't already answer. All I am doing now is repetition.

Uh...if by that you mean that it doesn't stop expanding, then sure, yeah. But at any given point in time, it is indeed finite.

I don't see what you're trying to say there. >_>

You can't expand something that is infinite, by definition.

If you cannot reach an end, it is infinite.

Just because we cannot reach it does not mean it does not exist.

Not my problem.

It has an infinitely expanding end.

Yet the end is infinitely changing, no?

Yes. Well, unless there's some inverse big bang or whatever that theory says. But yeah, for the sake of argument. However, that does not mean that it, itself, is infinite.

Yes. Same as above.

Assume he had the technology for outer space travel for whatever distance we wanted. You cannot reach the end no matter how far you travel. To me, that pretty much spells out I-N-F-I-N-I-T-E.

Never reaching the end does not directly imply that it has no end; merely that you cannot detect that end.

Actually, technically you could measure the universe; well, hypothetically, anyway. It'd just be a pain. Also it'd be an incorrect figure momentarily, but that's not the point. >_>

Not necessarily. You couldn't "reach" the end at that point because you are the end.

I have a million other things to say to other posts in this topic, but I might wait and see if anyone else wants to keep going first.
