1 Luck = 1 hit, 1 avoid, 1 dodge, at least in the more recent FEs. Dunno about FE5 and earlier.

Actually 1 Lck = 1 Eva, 1 Ddg, and .5 Hit in Fe6-8.

:hmm: First time I've ever heard of Crt Eva being referred to a Ddg.

Play FE9

Open a character's sheet.

You'll notice the 'dodge' stat matches their luck.

I already stated that I've never played FE9. >.> As far as I know, GBA and SNES FE games don't list your Crt Eva. Only the net Crt that you or your enemy has.

Sety - December 14, 2007 02:33 AM (GMT)

Zihark - December 14, 2007 04:42 AM (GMT)

That's stupid. Dodging criticals..?
Ugh, lost a small amount of respect for the 3D FEs. >_>;

Myke - December 15, 2007 09:36 PM (GMT)
You play too much final fantasy, Kovu. If you reeeeallly think about it, a critical is an attack that has hit a vital spot (neck, heart, artery). Which, in fire emblem, is reflected by your skill and for certain classes, your mastery of a weapon (not luck, like that horrendous evil square would have you believe). And thus, you would be dodging, moving in such a way so that your throat doesn't get torn out and instead, you just have a clavicle removed.

Maraj - December 15, 2007 10:13 PM (GMT)
...I thought an FE critical just did more damage due to more momentum, since in the GBA games they always do that triple-spin thing of their weapon beforehand...>_>

Dodge is your ability to evade a hit in general, last I checked. In FE that's always been referred to as evade.
Evading a critical hit is completely based on luck, thus it's not so much dodging (any more than trying to evade a hit in general) but getting lucky (or, more accurately, not getting unlucky).

.. what does Final Fantasy have to do with any of this? I know the workings of the FE system (engine, whatever the heck you want to call it) far better than the FF system.

Maraj has a point as well, the critical strikes not only strike a vital area on the body but usually there's more oomph in the strike itself.

I don't see how CEV sounds better then dodge, actually. It just sounds like you're evading critically. >_>

Maraj - December 16, 2007 02:50 AM (GMT)
I'm just waiting for Avoid to show up as a distinct defensive term.

Evade reduces the chances of getting Hit.
Critical Evade recudes the chances of getting Critically Hit.
