Okay, here's the deal: A group of people regularly set up a contest with prizes. At one point, they change the prize to something significantly lower, not changing the contest itself. Now, if someone who won a contest before the change in prizes came to claim their prize, should they be entitled to the ancient prize, the one they won, or should they have to settle with the new prize? Please take note that honoring all the old prizes would not make them bankrupt or cause problems to them in any way. Also, the contest is one that requires skill, not luck.
I personally think that they should honor the old prizes, to avoid discontent winners that could ultimately reduce the popularity of the contest.
I'd like to see what you think about this for reasons you've probably figured out by now.
If somebody joins due to one prize, puts their effort and work into for that one prize, then they should get that one. If the prize was something with "significantly" less value, there's a good chance that they wouldn't have put the effort or time in to win.
If it was changed before the start of the next contest, as in not during a contest, then the new prize should be given.
EDIT:
Reread it. He won before the change? Of course he should get the old prize. That is what he was shooting for.
