Title: So I finally tested my theory...
Description: Leonardo owns dragons
Hyric_the_Soldier - December 31, 2007 03:14 PM (GMT)
I think some of you remember my post in Zephiel's "controll my playtrough" topic. I suggested Leonardo with giving him the skill Dragon Foe, the scroll Dragonslayer found lying around in the Grann Desert, and Arberlest, the most mighty crossbow that can be obtained in the game.
Excited to finally test this out, I had him rush to the nearest Red Dragon you can find, and have him fire his golden Crossbow and the result, the expected One Hit Wonder. That Dragon had 75 HP and 34 Defence transformed. Was going to take 80 damage but couldn't.
However, Red Dragon Defence ranges from 17 to 19 untransformed. A few Red Dragons can survive one shot from his big bad crossbow. But of course, they'd hang on to little amounts of HP, less than 10. And then there's the question of them standing on cover >_>;;
As for White Dragons, there's nothing to worry about. Their physical defence suck and I doubt even Cover can save their scaly hides from ending up on his mantle.
Leo's a level 12 Marksan if I recall. The chapter before he got to level 11. Since this is Hard Mode I couldn't have gotten him this high solely on Bonus EXP. In Part 3, he'll be battling Beasts in high quantity. I used this same trick but with Beast Foe that you find on the chapter you get Meg and a regular Crossbow would do like 60 damage to Tigers. Transformed of couse. So yeah, each turn he owned a laguz which tend to give lots of experiece. Best of all, Strength is of no influence. So Sanaki could beat him in arm wrestling for all it's worth regarding laguz. XP
Say hello to Leonardo the Laguz Hitman! *pictures him with shades and a big grin*
EDIT: If it isn't obvious already, put him in Tibarn's team. The constant onslaught of Laguz should make him easy to level. He went from level 15 Sniper to Level 7 Marksman in that chapter with Izuka

Wait, how does a Crossbow do 60 dmg again?

Arberlest has 38 MT
Bonus damage triples the weapon MT
38x3=114 MT
This is when Defence kicks in which usually doesn't really save the victim. You must have a clear picture now.
Crossbow has 28 MT and Bonus Damage increases MT to 84. It's really as simple as that.

...they're effective against Laguz? o_ô

Why's it have to be Leonardo? Shinon or even Rolf would probably kill the dragons more effectively, not to mention they're much easier to train.
In fact, since it's a crossbow, you could give it to Boyd or Nolan for even more damage.

Because he wanted to use Leo.

It's the skill Beast Foe. Automatically deals bonus damage to Cats and Tigers.

Eh? Crossbows are independant of Strength. A weakling like Sanaki could wreak just as much physical carnage with these special weapons.
One last side-note. I gave Sigrun full inventory and then got her to get Dragonslayer so I could send it directly to the convoy. Because it's a shared convoy for part 4, you can assign to your teammates on a different team. I gave that to Elincia and then saw her 1-2 KO those mutant sunburned igguanas with Amiti.

By doing the same damage?
Hyric_the_Soldier - January 1, 2008 07:28 PM (GMT)
Well, Leonardo because he's the most dificult one. I just thought that since his strength is low, he might do more damage with crossbows. And then I remember how Tibarn took nuclear damage from a Sniper with Crossbow and realized how powerful those weapons are when they deal bonus damage, then I remember the Beast Foe scroll and the fact that Leo would be facing lots of Laguz and ultimately dragons.
So yeah, to demonstrate even Leonrdo can be of good use. Way to simplify my Rebirth (3) for me, Leo.
Sure, it can also be done with Rolf and Shinon.

What about the crossbow with birdfoe in 4-5? :O

Heh. You get a point for sarcasm.
