I guess I'll start with my newest mug that I've been working on. I am trying to make a GBA style Alec mug.

The turban doesn't really fit the style of the rest of the mug.

Jeigan - February 13, 2008 04:42 AM (GMT)
Hair needs outline. It would look better if you used a dark gray or something instead of the outline color for thhose inner parts of the turban

darklink - February 13, 2008 01:11 PM (GMT)
Thanks. It does look better with the gray instead of the black outline.

I changed the head a little too.

Inuyasha Lover - February 16, 2008 01:37 AM (GMT)
I don't think the turban really fits with it.

darklink - March 14, 2008 09:37 PM (GMT)
Alright. Here are some recently made mugs that I'll be putting in a FE6 hack (I am starting one but in all honesty I probably won't finish making all of the mugs, much less putting them in until a long, long time from now)

Any criticism would be appreciated. I also posted this at FESS. I heard somebody complain about the critique from there so I am going to compare it myself...

Brace yourself.

For splices they look decent.

darklink - March 28, 2008 05:43 PM (GMT)
Here is some of my really old stuff for you guys to laugh at or whatever.

user posted image
My first splice. Horrible. Not to mention wrong format.

user posted image
My first map. Notice the mysterious letters on the grass tiles. I didn't even put those there. They came from FE6 maps. Overall, not a good map, but good enough for an RP.

user posted image
My first battle sprites. Not that bad. Simple splices like all of my stuff, but not bad. I just hated the way mages always had KKK hoods and myrmidons always had long hair. I even made full sheets for the mage with no hood and short hair myrmidon.

user posted image
My second attempt at battle sprites. A little better, but still not quite good.

user posted image
A pretty bad second attempt at my first splice. Way too much wrong with this to even bother writing about.

user posted image
Then a while later I made it look better. Still some problems, but way better.

user posted image
I also made this for an RP. At this point, I finally learned how to splice correctly (took me long enough).

user posted image
This is the second map I ever made. I am still not very good at maps, but at least good enough for RP maps that don't require perfection.

And then this next one is more recent as in I just made it today:

user posted image

Another evolution of my first splice and a slight edit from my current Avatar. I am not sure about the emblems on the shoulder pads because they don't really stand out and are not really needed, so eventually I will probably just splice that headband onto my current avatar.

^that.

Everything else looks decent. The bridge on the first map looks out of place, imo, but it's fine otherwise.

I have to agree with you on that one. The second from the right on the top is cool looking also.

New map...and yes, it is symmetrical...kind of.

It's going to be my castle map for my RP.

Map tips: The roads are far too straight.

Gameplay tips: Way too easy to get to the throne. High DEF/RES unit can just plow through.

^that.

You have one too many row of stairs on the bottom staircase, but the rest of the height stuff looks good.

I like the ponds, but they look out of place a bit, not being connected to the castle. Also, the grass is too even and repetitive, try making it more random. Overall good map though. %::%

Cugar - May 30, 2008 01:28 AM (GMT)
Also, the top two chests lack shadows.

EDIT; kekeke

darklink - May 30, 2008 01:58 AM (GMT)
Good point. I'll edit it to make it a bit harder to reach the throne too.

There. I still have to vary the grass and maybe mess with the new palette for the floor some more, but other than that I'd almost call it done. I took out the pillars because...they'd help the guys siezing it more than they'd help me defend it.

Here's some mugs I've made or helped make with Mavs from Fe planet(I'll mark those specifically):

Oh wow thats a lot of mugs. XD For the one with all the different hair colors, I think the blonde one and the dark purple like one fit him the best.

Exxucus - May 30, 2008 04:56 AM (GMT)
The top map is quite good! There are a few shading errors, but is overall a good map.

Firefly_43 - May 30, 2008 06:04 AM (GMT)
The treelines, paths, and river in the bottom map are unnaturally straight. The paths and river can be fixed by just making them more windy, and the treeline should be more random; put a patch of grass of two among the thickets, and stagger some tress so the treeline fade out instead of coming to an abrupt halt.

I thought it'd be fun to redo a FE5 map GBA style.

It was more complicated than it had to be though because I started out using the tiles from the Lilina chapter FE6 map...but it looked too bright, white, and purple for a dungeon so I recolored it using the palette from FE8 CH14 Ephraim route. That's where I got the tiles by the stairs too. Then I got the throne from FE8...CH8 maybe? I had to recolor that too though. The pillars were spliced from part of that as well.

LordUldren - June 15, 2008 10:35 PM (GMT)
Pretty hot stuff right there. Should have used a darker tile set though.

AngelOfDeath - June 15, 2008 10:37 PM (GMT)
I think you used the wrong flight of stairs for that area in the top left corner <.< And you're missing a shade in that little hole in the bottom left corner.

Edit: The throne needs shading too... I think.

Yeah, the tile east of the third throne tile needs to be a corner shadow.

Did you try Battle Before Dawn? FE7CH25(?)

This is a freaking awesome map, I love the idea. Its really sweet. I love the tiles that you used for it. Brilliant job!

but I think the water shouldn't just end in a straight line..

Room in the middle is random and has an inappropriate shadow.

Exxucus - June 17, 2008 04:56 AM (GMT)
That is an epic remake. The stairs are incorrect, but that's the tileset's fault, not yours.

Alright, here are some of my more recent mugs (all still splices though..haven't quite gotten into customs):

And here are my more recent animation remakes:

I basically just took off the hat. and added another knife.

I think I just added a shield...I did it so long ago I can't quite remember. I submitted it for the FE4 hack, but I think somebody else made a better one or it would have been too hard to insert it or something. Or maybe I still needed to fix the shield's animation at the end...it was so long ago I don't remember.

Anyway, I know I haven't progressed too much since last time, but that's mainly because Calculus ate away at my spriting time. It payed off though and I have no regrets.

Exxucus - August 12, 2009 08:36 AM (GMT)
Nice work on the mugs. They're all well proportioned, have good color choices, and are a nice mix of pieces so that nothing is immediately recognizable. I really like the one you're using as your avvy. Something about the color scheme and design just works so well...

darklink - August 13, 2009 02:01 AM (GMT)
Thanks, I hope to make a few more mugs in the upcoming days and maybe even try to do one custom. It all depends on what inspires me. Right now I'm also working on some vectored backgrounds for FE characters though (Zephiel (work in progress) looks like such a pansy with such a limited, purple color scheme).

I'll have to look at my old to-do list too...I think I was trying to edit another battle animation too. I think it may have been the female myrmidon one since I became annoyed at the pig-tail and wanted a female myrmidon with long hair. That sounds about right.

darklink - September 7, 2009 04:05 AM (GMT)
Okay, got around to spriting some more. Tried to make my first custom mug:

Any tips before I start shading? I've been using Asvel's guide up until this point...

Then I made some progress on the Zephiel vector (not quite spriting, but whatever):

Asvel's style isn't that FE styles, so don't expect yours to
look like hers in the end unless you choose to.

darklink - September 7, 2009 07:14 PM (GMT)
That's actually not the tutorial I used...but it seems Asvel has taken the one I used down. I have it saved to a file on my computer (saved it there about a year ago since it seemed interesting and I knew it might not always be there given it was a photobucket image). I would re-upload it and post it here...but I'm guessing that would be in bad taste. If Asvel took it off her photobucket, she probably had a reason for it.

Oh, and here's a very sloppy vector of Elie from Rave Master (I got lazy...really lazy):
