Title: Knives vs Staves

I have always found the option of giving knives to a Sage a strange one. I mean, I have yet to see any real plus to doing so.

Quite frankly, no Sage has enough strength to utilize knives to their fullest. Might as well stick with Volke for knife usage. Seriously, why use knives if magic hits both 1 and 2 panels away anyway? Doesn't it make more sense to choose staves? It never hurts to have another unit capable of healing at hand.

The only way I could justify knives is to make a Sage a good mage-killer, but considering most magic units go down quickly at the hands of a capable weapon-user, why bother?

Opinions?

There is really no reason to choose knives. The low MT of knives plus the low strength of mages means they won't even do much damage to other magic users.

I've found no point with sages using knives. I mean, 2 Atk+ 4 MT=6-6(enemy's defense)=0. That's why I always choose staves. With staves they can pwn other enemies and heal they're allies, IMO it's the ultimate combo

And besides that, most magic users have enough MAG in comparison to the enemy's RES to do waay more damage with magic than they could ever do with knives. At least they gain some usage with staves, even if you they aren't often used as healers.

Go staff, you get 2 other sages that can use knifes anyway, but its pretty useless to sages in general to me, cause they gain more for MAG then STR. Plus its nice to have people that can heal and do good damage.

lol, knives.

It's like, not even a choice.

It's good to see that so many agree that knives are a poor choice. Yay, staves!
