Can someone please shade this for me. I just cannot shade it right. D:

Well, there's a problem with the sprite itself that is bothering me, it looks like Lucius has a bit of a large belly.

Aeorys Kirru - November 26, 2008 04:02 AM (GMT)
Is that a purposely exaggerated pair of hips, or Lucius pregnant?

aznswordmaster1 - November 26, 2008 04:05 AM (GMT)
If you don't mind, I'd like to fix that up for yea, and someone else can do the shading since I already have my hands full.

Lucius - November 26, 2008 04:11 AM (GMT)
Yeah I kinda rushed the outline.

aznswordmaster1 - November 26, 2008 04:13 AM (GMT)
Alright I'll edit my post or something when I get it done.
EDIT1: Well I'm almost done making changes but, the right arm (our view) its too short if the hand is going to come out right out of the end of the sleeve. So do you still want some want some way for the hand to be in their or leave it be for now?

EDIT2: I left the arm alone for now and I'll post up what I have for you, if you want the arm changed, let me know right away, I'll also PM it to you just in case you don't see this post.

Looks awesome tyvm.

Aeorys Kirru - November 26, 2008 04:30 AM (GMT)
<< In general, everything except the head and hips are too small/short.

aznswordmaster1 - November 26, 2008 04:32 AM (GMT)
It still urks me that Lucius is a male, cause I felt really weird after I started to make changes that I was giving him a female build minus breast. XD Well like I said in my last post, the arm is pretty short and needs to be longer so if you want it to be changed where the hand is seen to, let me know right away.

Lucius - November 26, 2008 04:33 AM (GMT)
I guess if you think it looks short you could make it a little longer.

*irks

@ASM - Try these proportions. (Arm could still be longer.)

I didn't add details to the fingers just cause I'm running out of time to use. :/

That looks awesome, thanks.

But I still am having problems with shading. Is there a tutorial on shading half bodies somewhere?

Aeorys Kirru - November 26, 2008 04:31 PM (GMT)
'Fraid not. Shading is something you have to practice to get right. I have my halfbody tutorial, but I don't really go into too much detail when it comes to shading. You kind of just have to try, get critique, and fix it until it looks right.

Wrong light source. His face is being illuminated from our right, so most of the dark shades would go to the left. Also, don't mash in a bunch of color around the borders. That leads to pillowing.

is this any better?

Aeorys Kirru - November 26, 2008 05:10 PM (GMT)
Better, but still the wrong approach. Clothing follows the curve of the body, and bodies aren't flat.

Well first think about where the light is coming from, and clothing and the hunan body it self isn't a flat paper like thing. What I could also recommend is also try using FE9 sprites as a way to look at the way things are shaded, FE10 has a bit of a different feel to it but can help though.

Not quite, a little more loose with the Darkest shading, your using a great deal of it.
