Title: Khrene's Pixel Art and the Like
Description: I'd like to advance my skills.

I know I'm not the most active member on this board, but FES has to have some of the best spriters and pixel artists, and every critique I've gotten here has helped me out a lot.

Well, one piece I wanna pick up is a very large image of a couple of characters.

I used nothing but MS Paint and an old scanner for this. First off, I scanned it (duh).

Original scan:

Second I lined it.

Then I saved it as a 16 bit .bmp to turn all the paper and lines into gray and black, then got rid of them. That's why I used bright 16 bit colors to outline. I used multiple colors so it'd be easier to not have everything have a black outline.

Finally, I began to color and shade.

I already know this is coming. A lot of the shading is pillow-y. But I think current my strong points are her face, her left hand, the shine on the gauntlet on her right hand, and the sword and the claw on her weapon look good to me.

That is a very interesting way of making line art, very impressive. Looks good overall too. I still think there are some areas you still need shading in, but I like the style.

LOL I would have never thought to do lineart that way. That really is interesting.

Interesting, Out of my curiosity, did use just regular ole' Paint of Paint.net? I think Paint.net would save you some time if you had to go back and erase all the paper part of it out.

Thanks guys. I just used normal MS Paint, azn. And also I just saved the outline with the paper as a 16 bit bit map and all the paper was turned into white, either 2 shades of gray, or black and my colorful lining was saved. Then from then on all I have to is do a few copies and pastes and the black greys are gone.

Aeorys no I didn't girl-ify him, it's another person who stole his clothes and mended them to her physique with something I call texto-mancy (sounds better than magic cloth mending). And you won't say anything about a girl getting this power when you see a giant curtain cleave you in half. And I actually got the idea for the line work off of youtube. Some guy GIRL posted a tutorial. I'll see if I can dig up a link.

EDIT: Here's where I got the method
