Title: Best GBA Games

yoshi71089 - January 20, 2009 07:09 AM (GMT)
Sooo, I'm pretty attached to my GBA. I mean, it doesn't get much cooler than this. And in my nostaglic-ness, I've been thinking about the best GBA games ever. I've made my list, feel free to add/comment on the games here:
    God tier:
    - Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow - Can't say I've ever been so involved in a storyline or gameplay as much as this in this game. Everything about this game reeks of awesome, and has pretty good replay value.
    - Fire Emblem: Sacred Stones - No comment, we all know why this game is awesome.
    - Yoshi's Island (SMA3) - Great transfer of a great SNES game. Has nothing to do with my screenname.
    - Metroid Fusion - Amazing. Actually the only Metroid I've ever played.

    Great tier:
    - Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga - One of the funniest games I've ever played, I was laughing the whole way through it. Gameplay is great.
    - Zelda: Minish Cap - Great gameplay, kinstones are addicting, love the backstory feel.
    - Fire Emblem - Again, no comment necessary.
    - Zelda: Link to the Past/Four Swords - Amazing much? Plus FS is fun with three brothers each having their own GBA.
    - Super Mario World (SMA2) - Love the transfer, although IIRC, they messed with a few of the things I liked from the SNES version.
    - Final Fantasy I/II - Added by Lubu: One of the biggest hit offs for RPG games
    - Golden Sun - Added by Reikken

    Good tier:
    - Advance Wars - I'm a big fan of mulitplayer games (having 3 brothers), and this one is one of the best. Never actually beat single player mode. XD
    - Fire Emblem: Sword of Seals - True, I've never actually played it on the GBA, but it still counts.
    - Sonic Advance - Added by Denning: Incredibly easy to be with Tails (especially) and Knuckles, but the levels were amazing, and the music wasn't bad at all.
    - Kirby: Nightmare in Dreamland - Great transfer, with even better enhancments from the SNES version.
    - Breath of Fire - Haven't finished it, currently playing, but awesome so far.
    - Super Mario Bros 3 (SMA4) - Great transfer, loved the SNES version.
    - Pokemon Emerald - Added by Denning

    OK tier:
    - Bomberman Tournament - See Advance Wars above.
    - Mario Kart: Super Circuit - As frustrating as this game was, it was still very enjoyable.
    - Riviera: The Promised Land - Added by Reikken
    - Pokemon Ruby/Sapphire - Added by Lubu
    - Lord of the Rings: Fellowship of the Ring - I have no idea what I like about this game so much. It has to be the glitchiest game ever created, but I absolutely love it. Love the gameplay, love the way it sticks closely to the books, love the music.

    Suck tier:
    - Sonic Advance 3 - Added by Denning
    - Sonic the Hedgehog - Added by Denning
I wish I could remember more, but that's what you guys are for. %::%

actually based on your games and ratings i can agree with you for the most part, you forgot Pokemon though, i would put that in either great or good tier(or god tier depending on your opinion), FF1/FF2 was also put on the GBA and i would personally put it in the god tier as it was one of the biggest hit offs for rpg games. at own possible risk, i will put yugioh in the good/ok tier, i played the card game and enjoyed it, as long as its not sacred cards/any of game that doesn't properly play by the rules. those are really the only games i would add, you did a good job on the list, although move Legend of Zelda: Link to the past to God, that was the greatest Zelda game(aside from Ocarina of Time), although once again thats opinion based because some prefer wind waker(great game, cell shading is not for me though), or Twilight Princess(also extremely good, but i'm all about old school)

Sonic Advance 1 4 good tier. Incredibly easy to be with Tails (especially) and Knuckles, but the levels were amazing, and the music wasn't bad at all.

My fault, I put god tier originally. |:

Fixed the format, somebody retarded did it weird. Added y'all's, and just assumed on which version of Pokemon you meant.

@Lubu: Meh, I like Minish better, although I didn't play LttP as a kid, so it has less of a nostalgia feel for me than it probably does for some people.

Well, for the FE games, I like 7 then 6 then 8.

I also love Golden Sun games (I liked the first one more) and even tough I didn't finish it, Final Fantasy VI

Le Gasp! How is M&L: SS not God? Being the best Mario spin off game, and arguably the best Mario game thus far? An excellent game, and deserves a bump.

Pokemon R/S should go down. As a set, they weren't really that great; once the game was beaten, there was NOTHING worth doing. At all. Emerald is something I would exemplify, but Ruby/Sapphire just honestly weren't all that great.

I'll also need some reasoning why FE7 < 8, btw. They could be on the same level, but I do know that FE7 shouldn't be that far below 8, if at all.

FR/LG for OK tier; just beneath RS. Emerald can go into good.

Pokeymanz D/P/P for Great Tier. Really impressed by all the improvements.

Perhaps if that set of versions was released for the GBA, then yeah. I'd agree with you, too.

Sonic Advance 3 and Sonic the Hedgehog (Gen. port) for bottom tier. Yes, they were that bad.

SA3 involves you completing the levels with various character combos (Sonic/Tails, Sonic/Amy, Tails/Amy, Tails/Knuckles, Sonic/Knuckles, etc.) which as a whole were useless for blazing through the game - which you could also blast through with Tails.

The StH port would've been nice if you didn't die by being within a centimeter away from an enemy while you lacked rings. And if Labyrinth Zone weren't already somewhat challenging before; the horrendous lag time in the game raises the difficulty level to impossible, and what feels like three minutes of playing through a zone is actually six minutes. I still haven't beaten it, whereas I could blast through the original StH ten times instead. With all the Emeralds.

no Golden Sun on there is slightly surprising

also, needs more Riviera: The Promised Land, best game ever

and for Fire Emblem, 6 > other two

-Why is Sacred Stones above Sword of Seals? I can understand Blazing Sword beating it, due to availability/language problems, but I don't think FE8 being in an unreadable language would detract from it. In fact, being unable to read the dry, thin text they call 'plot' would probably make it better.
-Kill Ruby/Sapphire and just leave Emerald, since there's little difference between them unless you're a fanatic. Maybe replace them with FR/LG, since it has different plot, pokemon, etc. I'd also say knock it up a fair bit. Despite how embarassed you are playing it, it's one of the greatest and most successful RPGs in existance.
-Shove Buu's fury in there somewhere, maybe under Riviera. Legacy of Goku II would be my preference, but apparently people disagree.
-Yggdra Union wants a spot in Great Tier, probably just below/above Fire Emblem.
-Dragon Ball: AA for bottom of good tier. Crazy addictive, fun and exciting gameplay, actual difficulty. Four stars, would buy again if I didn't already own it.
-FFTA deserves a spot, I think. Alot of people compared it to FFT and whined, but it's a new era with new developers and new hardware. Look at it by itself and it's a thoroughly enjoyable title - I recommend good tier.
-Sword of Mana definately needs to be in there somewhere. Mid-Great Tier?
-Tactics Ogre: tKoL was an unsung masterpiece. I'd even go so far as to say it was far better than most of the list, but perhaps not. At least bottom Great Tier, IMO.
-Where's the megaman at? I'm not sure which I'd put up there, maybe Megaman and Bass.
-We need at least one CCG/TCG game. Yugioh's probably got the smoothest games, the rest of them had pretty terrible interfaces. Magic was pretty, but eye-bleedingly difficult to play.
-Donkey Kong Country, please. Top of OK tier. King of Swing was okay, but more for creativity than actually being good.
-I'd put F-Zero: Maximum Velocity above LotR, but below it is fine too.
-Monster Rancher for top of god tierin the okay tier somewhere. Pretty sweet game if you don't mind the pace and have the attention span to play it for a few months.
-Shining Force was one of the greatest turn-based RPGs of all time, so I think it's port deserves a spot. I'd put it above Golden Sun. The Shining Soul games were okay, but I dunno if worthy of the list.
-Tales of? I know it's hugely popular, but I've never seen its charm, personally.

I'd also like to say that Breath of Fire = hax. Looks pretty cozy where it is, though. I'd also switch LttP and Minish, but that's just me.

there's my activity for a good month or so.
