Gotta use at least three shades on hair unless you really don't need it. Also, you gotta clean up the shading when you splice. At this point, I'd say you should spend more time on individual sprites, instead of making a whole bunch at once.

Wats up with he random Priscilla?

Aeorys Kirru - February 21, 2009 02:55 AM (GMT)
He removed Prissy's shading and got rid of the feather.

The animation would be better if it ran faster/had fewer frames and had blurs.

ArchaiaSai - February 23, 2009 01:28 AM (GMT)
ehhh... didn't really do much

and tried to fix up the hair... I know this is kind of a request but can someone do the clothing shading so it looks real?

Aeorys Kirru - February 25, 2009 03:16 AM (GMT)
The end of the whip-thing disappears when the myrm flips back the first time.

Also, I think it'd be more beneficial to you as a spriter if you tried shading the clothes yourself first. First off, the hair is waaaay too bright for FE7 colors. Either switch to FE8 colors or tone it down. Second, lots of chunky shading going down by the neck. The collar region looks like a flat panel of skin. If it's female, there's bound to be some sort of bosom shading, so you might want to add that in. Second, there are collar bones and neck muscle contours that should be added in. Seeing as your light source comes from the right, most of your shading would naturally be on the left. As soon as you get body contour down, the rest of the shading shouldn't be too much of a task.

fixed up Azh a bit and added the collar... my problem with this was that the design kind of prohibited my shading...(like I think my avatar is pretty ok, except maybe the shading on the far shoulder) but i'm a quite happy with it for now and sure, she's a Colette Brunel (Tales of Symphonia) but hey, Colette was... wait, she kinda sucked... lol still remember that washboard scene xDDD

and fixed up the animation... gonna work on the critical which will be more custom but first going to show the rest of the attack (where it gets cut off)

oh and will choose better colors

Umpadumpalump - February 25, 2009 09:26 PM (GMT)
Say man, you might wanna start with splices before you do editting, because it doesn't seem like you understand how to shade completely yet. A lot lot of your mugs are practically unshaded, and you usually don't use enough colors. Use other FE mugs for reference.

b0nest0rm99 - February 25, 2009 11:17 PM (GMT)
I started out doing crappy, custom, pillowshaded
work but worked my way up. Archaiasai's sprites
aren't pillowed like mine were, but the shape of
the shoulder's seem rounded.

ArchaiaSai - February 26, 2009 12:07 AM (GMT)
Tried to fix it a little more, still a much of a WIP
now i think I should try and fix the hair. :dv:

had them both for comparison...
oh crap I think the shoulders could be a lot better... btw the 1st one's the edit

Going to take Umpalu...etc's advice and try to do some splices even though they aren't very inspiring...

and are my avatar's shoulders like REALLY rouNDEd or just a little...

and btw... is pillow shading.... what is it?

and does ftw mean for the win or for the world... cuz first i thought it was f*** the world

lol tangent

Aeorys Kirru:
QUOTE
Pillow shading is when colors are layered thickly around a border. The effect creates an embossed, or 'pillowed', feel because the lightest color, generally in the middle, is strongly highlighted by the surrounding darker shades.

Simple terms - You're lining the edges with solid colors and making everything look puffy.

EDIT -- Example (pillow-shading on left, normal shading on right)

That's what you weren't doing though.

I think you should try simpler clothes. The design on the shirt
doesn't really make sense.

tips plz

sai - February 26, 2009 04:44 AM (GMT)
This isn't about your more recent sprites, but your whip animation. The one thing that bugged me the whole time was the two different whites. This is an eyesore to see the shifting whites and a pain if someone wanted to insert it into an actual ROM. And to learn some basic shading try the classical ball shade (I still can't get it right >.>).

ArchaiaSai - February 26, 2009 11:30 PM (GMT)
lol for the animation i was just focused on making the whip look real... didn't really pay much attention to the details...

and for the edit I meant how to shade the far shoulder... ball shading is just shading a ball?

sai - February 27, 2009 03:09 AM (GMT)
Yes well I'm just saying because your doing the most basic of shading just thinking you should try it out. The sprite with the teal armour and gold cutting in it were just small pillow shades and the hair was only two colours :l

ArchaiaSai - February 27, 2009 03:50 AM (GMT)
lol i must be real bad cuz that's not armor... o_o...

all right thnx for the advice

decided to lay off mugs and shading for a little while.. I was just playing with this concept... thought it was ok, but not what I had in mind... i can see 5 flaws in the animation... if u see more, tell me.

EDIT: oops, i'm not supposed to double post, right?

neways how do u delete posts?

Vampire Elf - February 28, 2009 01:04 AM (GMT)
well aside from the fact that nergal is a lil choppy is it his shadow attacking?

and double posting isnt that bad here specially if u got new work and its nto just spam :)

ArchaiaSai - February 28, 2009 06:10 AM (GMT)
;) yep it's called shadowmancing... I wanted it to be like a mix of a druid's critical and divine y'kno?

lol I do a lot of concepts, but the execution isnt always so great.

and can someone please sclue me into al the terms and stuff ssuch as RP and oc and stuff like that? :| o_ô

Aeorys Kirru - February 28, 2009 06:35 AM (GMT)
RP = Role-Play
Role-playing is when you place yourself as a character and perform their actions. It's like writing a story, basically. When you RP, you become the given character and act as they would. For example, if you were an extreme pacifist and super conservative in real life, but you RP a super violent, rash, and liberal character, you would have to get out of your comfort zone and act as how that particular individual would, rather than how you would. There's also the idea of separating what your character knows and what you know. Keeping true to character flaws is a HUGE part of a convincing role-play. You may know what happens in the plot, but your character, being a victim of this plot, probably wouldn't, and you should try to reflect that.

OC = Original Character
There are loads of character types: fan characters, canon characters, and original characters. Original characters are specifically targeted at original-content characters made by the creator. One of my OCs would be Aniphyxalle (Ani). She is of a half-vampyr race I created. Her world and all the characters that belong in it are entirely original. On the other hand, AK, who you see in my avatar, would be considered an original fan character because she belongs to the Fire Emblem fandom. She has her own class, skills, weapons, etc., but because she belongs in the Fire Emblem universe, she is a fan character and not necessarily all-original, though she could still be counted as an OC. Canon characters are characters that already exist, like Lyn from FE7.

Anything else?

ArchaiaSai - February 28, 2009 06:46 AM (GMT)
ftw... o_ô

oranj - February 28, 2009 06:29 PM (GMT)
for the win?

ArchaiaSai - March 3, 2009 04:15 AM (GMT)
lol I just pwned my friend who kept saying it was for the world... XD

neways.. did another concept.

going to be revamped... I think I will make it a character and give mug work another shot...

once again, I know there are flaws

Ragnarok - March 4, 2009 07:13 PM (GMT)
That's an interesting concept you have with the shadow coming up an attacking (in fact, I was planning to make something like that). I like your first concept better though.

ArchaiaSai - September 25, 2009 07:52 PM (GMT)
haha please go to my request in the request sections!!! thanks ppls! great work everyone
