Yes. Even for Echoes' multiplayer mode, which is accessed from the main menu.
1 & 2 have the token system from 3 added to them for unlockables.

The control systems are about equal in my opinion, not a huge loss. Anyway, since I own two of the games already I don't really see the point.

I hope they fixed that thing in Echoes where you'd see the Varia Suit when you go through a portal even if you got the Dark/Light suit. That pissed me off every time I saw it.
