Sup.
So, why was I gone?
Me and another student from my school, Melektha, have been recruited into the SEAT - the Student Equity Advisory Team. Basically, we inform the DET and schools about equality problems in the education system. As well as being the youngest SEAT members (8th grade), we are the first people from the Northern Sydney region to be in the SEAT. I got picked due to my Aboriginal heritage and having a rough school past. Mel was picked for the same basic reason, sans the Abbo background (She's Indian).
Me and Melektha recently held a survey for 8th grade based on what equity problems exist in school if any. We reported that to the DET and got good results.
Anyways, I left for the '2009 New south Wales Equity Conference' with Mel and my teacher Mrs. White, who's setting up our region for SEAT. I got free hotel accommodation, free food, free transport - all at a 4.5 star hotel. This is all paid for by the government, as SEAT is a government-based project.
Plus, we got to wear blazer jackets to the conference itself.
So, even if there was internet connection at the hotel, I was doing paperwork, getting things sussed out for the next day or hanging with other SEAT members from all around the state while raiding the vending machines for snacks and holding li'l parties in our rooms - like my first SEAT conference all over again.
So, in total, it was a great time. I lost my blazer and missed out on the chance to buy some Dr. Pepper (do you know how hard it is to get that stuff here in Australia?!), but that didn't ruin my trip at all.
It's good to be home. Aaahhhhhh...!
Fuckin' with this weed and patron got me cra-zay!
