It can be said that the downward spiral began when Jack sought the heart of Davy Jones; that unnatural treasure sent everyone on a mad sprint to the Isla Cruces, and all that followed was death and heartache. But what if witty Jack had discovered another way to avoid being called to join Jones’ crew?
Devil’s and Black Sheep explores an untold version of the story, in which Jack Sparrow did indeed find those one-hundred souls for Davy Jones, and continued on his merry way.
Jack Sparrow thought everything was well; he had his ship, his crew, his lover in the form of a young woman named Rachel, and he still had one James Norrington on his crew, and little could amuse him more than seeing the man bristle under his command. There is a hitch in his plans, however; in an attempt to keep his crewman, a woman named Genesis Wolfe, from falling for the former naval officer, he kisses her, sending Rachel packing. Things seem to be heading downward again for Captain Jack Sparrow.
And what could make this worse? Try having a newly-revived Barbossa appear…and appear he does. With a vengeance; in one fell swoop, he not only caught the fascination of Miss Rachel, but appears to be earning the allegiance of one Captain Kat Thomas, a ruthless captain and once-lover of Jack who, until recently, was one of his greatest allies.
But the pirate world is not the only one being thrown to the wolves. Lord Cutler Beckett, having been called back to England (which also granted Will Turner and Elizabeth Swann their freedoms), has returned as well. With Will off at sea in search of his father once more, Elizabeth is helpless when Beckett makes her and offer she cannot refuse; she and her father’s lives and reputations…in return for her hand in marriage, a move that will allow Beckett to advance himself amongst the nobility.
It seems as though things are quite different here in our little world. One must wonder…where will
you fit in?
