It's good pictures. But I believe you can achieve a better one. Good background blur show with FZ18 ;)
And as Jupiter said, the photo will be better if they have meaning ...
Or have its own unique.
Just keep shooting ! :D

Hmm.. compact cams these days seem to have quite good lenses attached to them!
Quite an amazing effort with a compact cam, Doug.
Keep shooting and saving $ for your dream cam and lens. ;)

Doug, the pix are quite nice... keep up the good work.
Isaac - wonder have you use such 'prosumer' camera before? Given the right conditions, they do capture very nice pictures... I did have some nice pix while using my FZ-5 then :P
Isaac - October 28, 2008 07:41 AM (GMT)
Before my D40X, I actually used to shoot using an Olympus compact camera..
It kind of looks like this one.

I've never actually ever HELD a prosumer cam like the one you and Doug have.. are they really that good?
I would actually like a good video cam..

I chose the word mystery because i think Macro shots are always mysterious as you can't tell what's the part that is blurred out... :P

Isaac - some of the prosumer cams are pretty competent... my FZ-5 do tend to over-expose at times (most likely I don't know how to use it effectively then... :ph43r: ), but given the right conditions, some of the pictures were quite stunning in fact.
This is one of my favorite pix taken during my Korea trip... as you can see.

Hey Doug,
Nice try on that Medal photo.
Abt that OverHead Bridge pix... Mmm... not sure what you are trying to tell from the picture.
I didn't know prosumer cams can do such zoom-in effect!!! (I'm sure they do... it just that I didn't explore my Lumix's potential... shame to say that :ph43r: ) But no comment on your 3rd pix as its your practice shot.
Keep up the good work...
soulexpress - October 29, 2008 03:15 AM (GMT)

Actually... Erm the effect was done by me but must bear with some public people walking pass as u'll look like siao... As you'll hav to try to move the cam manually like the one featured on Mr Bean's holiday try to move it nearer and constantly so as to achieve constant steaks... Guess that's how i get the 3rd pic...

Oh I see...
To achieve that kind of exposure, 1st you need to mount your cam to a tripod. Set Shutter Speed as priority, somewhere around 15~30 sec. These are the 2 basic steps.
To get more control on your exposure, you can also set in Mannual mode and at the same time play with the Aperture (so call f-stop, smaller aperture ie f20 will gives the street lamp lighting a starry effect).
Not to mention you can also adjust your ISO, exposure compensation (EC) etc. But do try out the basic step 1st...
Advertisement - if you see my pix postings, I usually posted with my cam settings along with the picture taken. you can take that as a reference.... cos I also learning

Ok... But my cam can't go to f 20 leh... Max is f8.0...
Isaac - October 30, 2008 05:22 PM (GMT)
I think F8.0 is sufficient.. from what I heard, the number of "spikes" on your starry-effected lamp posts are affected by what F number you are set on.
e.g. F22 = 22 spikes
F8 = 8 spikes..
Something like that. :)
The other reason why you would want a small aperture is so you can maintain clarity and sharpness from front to back of your photo.

Erm I've no clue .... 2 of us have just gone thru almost 14000 photos in the first round and another probably 10000 photos (after filtering and processing) in the second round so .................
You can check online in a couple of days' time and see if there's one of her. The shots have all been renamed with the runner's tag.

Doug, you might want to start a new topic for your new pictures because some people might lose interest or cannot be bothered to click so much just to view one post..
It helps draw more attention if you load pictures to a topic with a new name ^_^
