Hi Everyone...
I am benny and i came across his forum after Master Julian was teaching us on the lines of exploring the use of the dSLR last Sunday at the sdw... had a great time learning to shoot kinda professional with just a A200... made me wanna get my very own dSLR this weekend...
Currently I'm studying part-time in the night will working in the day at a service dept at Xerox.. will be planning to get the A350 this weekend at the IT show.. but perhaps just getting the body first as I am abit low on budget and would wanna get the DT 16-105mm F3.5 – 5.6 lens the following month which I plan to use for my fren's wedding coming end May...
what do you think ? will that be a good lens ?
By the way i was looking into the web at sony and it doesnt really tell much of this lens (DT 16-105mm F3.5 – 5.6) and it is priced the same as the DT 18-250mm F3.5 – 6.3 . Any advice ?
Thanks for all ur help! I believe i will greatly learn alot from the Forum, events and the people around. =)

Hello bearbear!
Welcome to the family.
The Sony a350 is a great camera to start off with and it provides excellent versatility and flexibility. The 16-105mm F3.5~5.6 is - in my opinion - is a substitute for the 18-250mm 3.5~6.3 when they don't have any left in stock! In terms of shooting a wedding, there are times where you probably won't be able to get in close enough to the bride and groom to take proper photos. Thus, having a larger focal range is important.
The 18-250mm allows you to shoot all the way up to 250mm ( which is really, really far away. Probably like 4x normal vision ) and you'll get all the action without having to move much at all!
The 18-250mm sells out really quick at the IT show, so remember to go there as early as you can to grab yours!
Hope this helped!
Cheers,
Isaac ;)

Thanks Isaac for the prompt response.. Wasn't expecting a quick reply but that was fast! =D
Hmm but just a question, if the 18~250 would be a better lens, why is it priced at the same as the 16~105 ? =P
Thanks lots!
Isaac - March 10, 2009 01:06 PM (GMT)
Basing this off from what I know so this is just an assumption..
Technically, lenses' prices are based off how 'bright' they are - which translates to how wide open a lens' aperture can open to. Just for example, an 80-200mm F2.8 would cost a lot more than an 80-200mm F3.5~5.6.
So in this case, although the 18-250mm has a longer focal range; it can only open up to f6.3 at the long end while the 16-105 can open up to f5.6.
So even with the longer range, the 18-250mm has its limitations and would cost substantially cheaper because of that, making it the same price as the 16-105mm.
Of course, there may be things affecting its price such as its build and where it was manufactured. E.g. Stuff from Japan may cost more than stuff made in Thailand.
Cheers,
Isaac ;)

Hmm...
with this in mind, i guess i will learn more about lenses before getting them... perhaps the best method would be to try them out... =)
Thanks for the help! really appreciate it...
Cheers,
Benny

Most people would prefer the 18-250mm, and I'm quite sure of that! ;)
Just wait for one of the more 'senior' people on the forum to reply to your question and I'm sure you'll get your proper answer!

Ooo... I would have thought you would have gotten it since you are there... I guess its the best time to get one since the promotions are quite good...
How was the crowd ? managed to view all the IT stuff at the other booths also ?
Robert - March 13, 2009 04:02 AM (GMT)
Hi Benny,
Welcome to the family.
I have the A350 too and I bought the SAL18250 separately. No regrets so far.
The SAL18250 give me the flexibility, especially on travel.
I have just added a UNIPLUS Tube25 to get better macro instead of investing in a
55F2.8 which I am not ready for it. But the Tube25 is only for macros. If taking tele,
I have to change back to basic SAL18250 lens only.

It's a bit difficult to move. But will be much harder to move in the weekend.
Not yet bought, because I am indecisive guy especially if want to buy for something cost more then $500 ;)
So finally what do you buy ?
bearbear90 - March 13, 2009 05:13 AM (GMT)
Hi Jeff, heard its raining heavily now... hope it will settle later this evening.. yupz weekend will be more packed... like sardines perhaps...
Will be going down later after work.. think reaching about 7.30-8pm or so....
I read in the other posts that you went for the chinese garden gathering (correct me if I am wrong), i guess gotta make a move soon or will miss out all the fun stuff that you can shoot... =)
planning to get A350 body later and will ask about more of the lenes from Evonne later.. cause i guess in the long run if I were to get the dual kit lens, it will be sold after upgrading.. so wouldnt mind spending more now then next time...
Hi Peter, Doug, Shadow, Robert!!
thanks for the welcome and sharing... =)
will let everyone know once i'm back from shopping this evening~* :P
