Title: Need Some Ideas...
doug - March 25, 2009 12:23 PM (GMT)
My CCA teacher asked me if I'm interested to join this photo competition... The theme is reflection... I was wondering if a photo of long exposure and silky water against the CBD buildings would be a good idea not... :( So pls advice me... Thx

Difficult to give advice if only words.
Better take the picture and post here so we can give comments and add more idea to improve yours ;)

People often take such shots and they really don't create a "wow" factor anymore cos they're too common. Of course unless the overall composition really stands out, otherwise it is a direct interpretation of the theme.
Be more creative Doug, you have it in you. Take some time as you walk in your neighbourhood, in school, at rest, etc. to ponder about the word "reflection"

Reflections was one of the topics for a competition that I joined a couple of months back!
The winner had taken a picture of an old, run down flat in a puddle of muddy water in a crack in the road.
Just an idea for you!
However, I agree with bro Peter and you should just sleep and think about it or walk around the neighborhood and think about what the word "Reflection" really means. You can even look it up in the dictionary to see the different meanings!
Good luck with the competition. :)

Reflection can mean the act of reflecting or the state of being reflected, or a fixing of the thoughts on something; careful consideration...depend how you see it...
Agreed with Jeff, may be you juz post yr pixs here, the experts will sure give you good advise ;) As all the 'gor-gor' (big brothers) said, walk (slowly) around and take a closer look at things. ;) Don't rush into it k...
Hope the following will give you some ideas:

Some areas for you to consider -
1. Water
2. Glass
3. Mirror
4. Small objects such as spoon, watch, etc
5. Shiny objects such as sculptures, etc
6. Car windscreen
7. Eyes
That should be enough for you to start.
If you wanna go deeper, you can consider looking for twins, having them stand face to face with one another .....

I want to do that actually
But need to drop a lot of water at the street
And someone might take a picture of a photographer make the environment dirty and post it in "My Paper"

I see #4 more suitable for a theme of "Shadow" than "Reflection" .... But it is a nice photo nonetheless. I see you've been trying very hard, great job keep it up !

#3 if you're trying to capture this as a mirror image, you've to work towards perfection ... i.e. everything must be in alignment. One side off will ruin the picture ...
Well that's for me lar ... I'm quite "niao" when it comes to such images. Not saying that you're wrong or what, but just for your consideration okie :)

Some cropping might help... Is this better??
soulexpress - March 28, 2009 03:20 PM (GMT)
You need to crop and rotate a little, to get the right perspective. Well, I'm sure you can do it. Do yourself and do us proud Doug.
You'd find a breakthrough somehow. Often the best shots are taken when you're led by your feelings ....

Good shot. Looks like you did ponder about the points I've shared with you, well done. Hope you'd get something from the competition, else the learning experience is valuable enough too.
