Title: Moments In Malacca

MOMENTS IN MALLACA

When my friends asked me to go for a 3-day holiday in Malacca on the last week of March, I was not that excited coz I thought there isn't much to see there.
Just the usual touristy spots I presumed.
Lo and behold, when I was there I fell in love with the place.
It has both old and new. Not to mention a mall where they do friendly copies of your music CD's. :$
So there and back again I went this weekend.

This is how I see, I shoot, and I share my moments in Mallaca.
A different story to tell about this beautiful place.

All taken with A700 + CZ 24-70

A City of Heritage

I was standing on a platform on the river when I took this.
Gave it a nostalgic look.
Would you believe I waited for birds to pass by?

Beneath the Ominous Shroud

After putting my things in the hotel I immediately went out to shoot.
This is the first scene I saw on the jetty beside the Mahkota hotel.

Ebb Tide

Taken at about 3 pm and it was low tide.
Found the vein-like formations on the ocean floor interesting.

Morning at the Jetty

I woke up at 6 a.m. and waited for the light.
Arrgh, too lazy to bring tripod from Singapore. :knock:
I never learn.

Tranquility

Taken on the other side of the jetty.
Using a polarizer and minus exposure compensation.

Eye of Mallaca

Also taken in the first morning light
Cropped photo.

On my last day I went to a mosque which I saw on an adjoining island (just 5 min away)
The hotel staff arranged a cab for me to take me there.
Not sure whether they would allow me to shoot inside but it was now or never for me.
Glad I made the decision to go to this place.
The guard was kind enough to allow me to go inside.

Salaam Alaykum

My jaws really dropped when I saw this scene.
Just amazing.

Then the moment I've been waiting for came.
This is the photo which made my trip worth it.

Abdullah, Servant of God

I graciously asked (die die must ask :'( ) the nice man who was cleaning in the mosque to pose for me in the middle of the scene.
Told him to just mop as is but stay in the center.
Am very grateful he agreed without hesitation.
I even removed the bucket and his slippers to clear up the scene.
Yes. That surely made my day.

So that's it for now.
Thanks for viewing my See Shoot Share. :D

Hi doc,
before reading the last part on the last picture on asking the guy to pose for you, i almost hesitated to think that you would have waited for the moment just like the birds in the first picture... :D

very nice and beautiful shots there... my personal favs are the 'Ebb Tide', 'Tranquility' and 'Abdullah, Servant of God'. Thanks for sharing~*

cheers,
Benny ^_^

Nice photo Doc !

For City of Heritage, what time did you take it ?

Jupiter - April 15, 2009 02:49 AM (GMT)
Beautiful!!! ;)

Pic 1 - Not sure it's the same river I saw (think only 1 river there ba). They had cleaned up and built new houses on one side of the bank...last time both sides were all old & dirty warehouses...

Tranquility, Ebb Tide are my fav, esp the latter, the buildings look like (from far  ) those in Europe!

Hi Doc,

Which hotel did you stay in

I have been to Malacca before but always for the food.
But now it would be for a different objective :D

Thanks everyone.

@Benny - haha. there are times when you need to "create" the moment to get the photo you want.

@Jeff - I took City of Heritage during my first trip. According to the EXIF it's 11:08 a.m.

@Jupiter - it's the same same but now different river  When I took those orange buildings across the bank it indeed reminded me of Europe. These are shophouses built by the government but never used to date.

@ jeffrey - glad u liked them.

@Robert - haha. glad my pics enticed you to ge there. I stayed in the Mahkota Hotel. The Holiday Inn is also beside it. The jetty called Arena is in between them.
As for the food, err I will be happier taking pics and eat a sandwich.

U can try this very Nyonya style hotel which I stayed there way before it was featured in the recent "Little Nyonya" TV serial.

Dun worry about getting hungry, u can find some makan along the street..Pretty near to their weekend night maket.

*WORSHIPS DOC*

Did you use a filter for most of your pics? Because most of your shots' water foreground appear to be very tranquil and flat.. Or was it because the water there is just very undisturbed? :o

I :wub::wub::wub::wub::wub::wub::wub::wub: your first photo!

Mind making me a wallpaper in 1280x800 resolution? :D

Hi Isaac,

Please don't kowtow me.
I'm not worthy. -_-

I was using Sony CZ circular polarizer.
The pictures were taken at a time when the water was calm.

You like "A City of Heritage"?

Okay I'll send you a copy.
