Hi...what's your opinion on this shot?

the bird can be placed more towards the left?

julianw - February 3, 2008 03:12 PM (GMT)
Hmm, yes to a certain extent, but actually the current position is fine :) This shot was done in a panning fashion, and that is possibly why the head portion is inclined towards the centre.

how about zooming out a bit and placing bird in lower left "1/3" of photo?

Just as you were telling us about placing an eagle in upper 1/3 of photo (and creating space below) to show it is high in the sky, i thot that it might be nice to place this bird in the lower 1/3 of photo to show the expanse of ocean that it was flying over :P

just a thot... nice photo tho. taken from a plane?

Hi Cecil,

What you mentioned would work too, it depends on what the photographer actually wanted to portray in this image.

Zooming out would show the expanse of the ocean, but zooming in (as what it is) shows good details of the bird in flight :)

This shot was done by one of the most recognised bird photographer in the world :) I believe it was taken using a long lens from the shore...

must have been a high vantage point... like a hill or a cliff :P

danielyeo - February 11, 2008 01:44 PM (GMT)
i think its a very nice panning shot...the details of the bird looks so sharp

The picture look sharp and nice. So what is the camera settings like. If it is a panning shot should be around 1/80 with a high aperture. Newbie to this kind of photography. Learning especially from our Sifu Julian on the tricks and trades of A700. Thanks.

Hi Kamadon,

This doesn't look like a panning shot to me...I believe it was captured with a very fast shutter speed (prob 1/500 sec). What I'm pretty sure is that this was done with either a 500mm or 600mm lens :)

Kind regards,
JW

errr ...Julian, you mentioned in your 3rd posting in this thread that it was a panning shot and subsequently you retract that notion ...

So ... was it a panning shot in the first place ...since you posted it ... hehe

For me, my inclination is that it is not a panning shot ... too sharp ... hehe ... probably a fast shutter speed at the long end of the telepo ?

Please correct me if I am wrong. =)
