Title: Some New Shots

Isaac - May 21, 2009 11:21 AM (GMT)
Well, I've been taking a photography elective class in school recently and it's been VERY hard to do themed shoots in such a small location with barely any colors. (Republic Poly has only like green and gray colors throughout the entire campus)

It really does push the limits of your imagination!

Since the campus is so dull, I figured that perhaps a more serious tone being applied would be much easier on my part. Serious to me meaning black and white, noise, dark shades etc.

First Theme - Loneliness (Has to be silhouetted)

I wasn't going for "abstract" for this shot, something which I had in mind at first but changed because of the limited resources and locations because it was raining that day!

Second Theme - Reflection

Once again, due to limited resources, I opted for a black and white photo and vignetted it for more focus on the words instead of the silhouette. A different take on our normal "reflection" which could mean reflections off mirrors and water etc.

3rd Shot (Not done in school, just took today through a rare opportunity upon waking)

The caption may not be appropriate per se, but I saw this king fisher waiting for a meal out of my fish pond(which it actually got without any hesitation at all, let alone permission from me) so I captioned the photo "Patience". It's supposed to be like one of those inspiration posters you see at bookstores..

Anyway, C&C is always welcome! :)

Cheers,
Isaac

P.S.
Doug, maybe this would answer your question about the contest you participated in themed "Reflections", right? ;)

Great shots, Isaac!!

Kingfisher pic was well done... however, I like the 'Reflection' pic best.
How do you vignette the picture? through photoshop?

Isaac - May 25, 2009 12:13 PM (GMT)
Thanks Jeff!

Glad you like the photos..

As for vignetting, it can be done through Photoshop or Lightroom. In order to do it the easy way on Photoshop, you'll have to use RAW files in order to vignette your photos. Only alternative in Photoshop is do to it the long and hard manual way which is really not practical..

In Lightroom there's a Vignette function somewhere and allows for easy and fast vignetting of any photos!

Hope this helps. :)

Will be updating this post WEEKLY for comments on more photos I shoot every week!

This is this week's photo captioned "The Grand Adventure".

It's supposed to be for a band's album cover.

The Kingfisher photo is really nice, very sharp, can see all its details :)

Nice setting and concept in the latest photo. The closed gate is good but if the wooden door is opened it might be more interesting. Right now it looks like the girl is gonna open the gate and bang into the door..

Quite pronounced barrel distortion in the photo, was it done delibrately? :)

Are the 4 persons in the photo the band members? All the best to them!

Here's the full sized pic..

The barrel distortion was not done intentionally; It was because I didn't know how to remove it in Photoshop! Have yet to learn that since it hasn't been much of a problem for me recently. :)

The 4 people in the photo were just my team members for the day's shoot and we were supposed to model for each other so they aren't exactly a band! :P

Thanks for the comments! Check back again next week :D

Personally, I like the feel of the kingfisher & the 4 young ones

I like the idea of the 2nd photo :)

Is it a set up photo ? Or candid ?

Thanks da jie for your comments.. :D

Jeff - All the shots were staged except for the kingfisher one! ;)

Since I'm actually on a school holiday now, here's a link to an album for a paid photoshoot I did just yesterday using an experimental technique.. ;)

The horizontal shots were quite badly done with harsh shadows due to this 'technique' I used unfortunately! :(

C&C is appreciated

One comment.
Why did your girl always look down ?

Give expression that she is a shy girl ;)
