i want to ask your thoughts about which lens to use on 25 sept :P

Minolta 300mm f/4 HS G APO
or
Sony 70-400mm f/4-5.6 G (D) SSM

BOTH :D

If only can take one, choose Sony 70-400mm f/4-5.6 G (D) SSM

You will be frustrated if only take one prime lens to there.

You may choose Minolta 300mm f/4 HS G APO, if you also bring another lenses which cover your wide to mid-range view.


As comparison, I will bring 2 lenses :
24-70mm f/2.8
70-200 f/2.8
That's what all I need.

i also thought of bringing the 70-400 G SSM but im afraid that it wont be bright enough as the aperture only F 5.6 ..

i mean which telephoto lens i should bring? :P

i would just go for 70-200 if i have the option~* ^_^

if not will be Sony 70-400mm f/4-5.6 G (D) SSM instead.. if it is not bright enough, may wanna increase the ISO

Hi Fredy,

Based on my personal experience on last yr's F1 shoot, many a time you can't have the perfect location to shoot due to the crowds... so I would reckon that the sony 70~400mm is a better choice as its more flexible if there's a need to shoot on different spots.
If you've just the 300mm lens, you probably would only be shooting on other people's head & shoulder as there are not many areas that are high enough to have a clear view on the racing track.
As Benny suggested, shoot with ISO in between 400~800.

hmm.. after much consideration i decided to bring 70-400mm.. :D
