One thing that has always puzzled me about Sept 11 is the lack of investigation into the airport security angle. It is always presented as just a done deal, that "airport security is always crap".
Something which caught my attention recently was an assertion that the companies which were in charge of security at the various 9-11 related airports were given immunity from prosecution by the Bush government.
My understanding is that the company in charge of the actual security that Mr Atta and friends had to go through was set up by people with direct senior connections to the Likud party.
Now Ive seen some airports where security was so lax you could have smuggled a cow onboard (Athens springs to mind), but I always remember the security at Boston where I have been a few times pre 9-11 to have been pretty rigourous.
Why add an extra risk to the highjacking operation by going througn Portland, Maine airport? This doesnt make sense to me at all. He nearly missed the plane at both Portland and Boston? Huh??? This guy was a -detail- person according to his University friends. A careful, academic planner.
The biggest event of your life and you nearly miss it TWICE????
