Title: Any Aircraft Sonic Identification Experts Round?
Description: naudet prop jet sound..Possible Smokin G

I have always thought when listening to the naudet film "why does that sound like a prop driven plane not a jet?"
I was looking around at some other stuff in one of these threads and found this (along with lots of witness statements indicating small plane for the first plane)

I was told by somebody that we had an eyewitness who happened to be an off-duty firefighter who
told me that he saw the first building get hit and it was hit by *a prop jet*, which I think turned out to be the wrong information, but everybody sees things differently. But he said
he was an eyewitness. I gave him to a fire marshal. I never got his name personally.

anyone with more aircraft experience than me comment on the noise of the plane in the naudet film? sounds distinctly propelerish to me.
(this should in fact be easy enough and EXTREMELY obvious smoking gun to prove with a good audio analyst, a recording of a 767 at high speed and some recordings of likely suspect prop jet planes..)

(theres a short clip from naudets film, showing the crash, here:

down the page a bit.

From ABC News:

DON DAHLER reporting:

I'm about four or five blocks just north of the World Trade Center. And at about 10--I would say 10 minutes ago, 15 minutes ago, there was a loud sound that I can only describe it--it sounded like a missile, not an airplane. Then there was a loud explosion and immediately lots of screaming out on the streets. And I don't want to cause any speculation, but that's the only way I could describe the sound. And it was definitely not the sound of a prop plane or anything like that.

SAWYER: And am I right? Are you a pilot?

DAHLER: Well, I have flown. I do not have a pilot's license, but I--I grew up on military bases. and I know the sounds of jets. And--and I've been in war zones and--and heard those kinds of different sounds. So, again, not to cause any kind of undue speculation but the sound itself was not of a prop plane. It was perhaps a jet. But it could have been a missile as well.

GIBSON: Can you give me--was it--was it a whining sound, Don, or what?

DAHLER: Yes. It was--it was a--how to describe it. It was a high pitch, but it had a--a--a whooshing sound. Not--not like a prop plane.

Turbofans have a sound like a turboprop.

767-200 taking off. Note the "growl" that sounds like props... :30 seconds in and another 767-200 taking off at 2:40. There are a few other planes taking off/landing with pure "jet sounds". They have different engines. Turn sound all the way up..

Tha Naudet film does have a brief "growl" tone as the 767 is coming in from behind them.
