Title: Secret Service
Description: SS failed to protect president. KEY

JackD - February 13, 2006 09:23 PM (GMT)
We all saw Michael Moore's daming footage from 9/11.

What the president saw regardign first crash, or got confused later, may be beside the point. But we should FOCUS on why his Secret Service did NOT protect him and his staff following 903am when attack on America was confirmed.

(Note that by 903am there were two buildings struck by planes in NY, and a number of aircraft possibly hijacked -- between 11 and 22 at one point, at a minium three confirmed hijackings)

Ergo -- as Bush was left in Booker Elem to read , why did his Sec Service detail NOT spring into action to move him to safety?
In fact, Bush lingered until 930am, where he gave a speech RIGHT ON TIME OF sein shedule as pre-announced?

Explanations -- pick and choose your favorite!

1) Bush knew nothing, was just clueless. Secret Service also clueless.
2) Bush knew nothing. Secret Service thought it was a drill.
3) bush thought it was a drill (therefore calm). Secret Service thought it was drill.
4) bush clueless OR thought it was drill. Sec Service KNEW it was not drill but also knew that Bush was not a target.

5) bush knew and secret service knew it was coming, but Bush not target.

I lean towards 4 or 5. Still, it is very damning that Sec Service was inactive for 27-47 minutes (from 1st or 2nd crash) in terms of presential safety. If anyone lives in a city where pres comes to talk, you KNOW that they don't take chances. all street routes, building roofs, no fly area, they are extremely cautious.

Does anyone have more creative explanations for lack of Sec Service protection until 940something that day?

All I know is that the Secret Service is over zealous about anything that MIGHT pose a threat to the President. I just remember when Bush came to Seattle a couple of years ago and a freakin' military jet flew at a altitude of no higher than 1,000 feet over my suburban neighborhood about 20-40 miles away from being even close to the president. It scared the sh*t out of me and I actually was so reactionary that I jumped out of bed and ran into the wall. Now that I think about it I probably shouldn't have told that part of the story .

Anyways there's no way that the President shouldn't have been whisked away to the nearest safehouse which would have been determined before he even arrived at that location. Maybe they wanted him to look strong in the face of danger. Instead it looks like nobody was doing their job, including Bush.

Ever read the Sherlock Holmes story on how he found out the owner did the crime because the dog didn't bark?

After all, the dog would never bark at his best friend or someone he knew as a friend.

Now add that logic to the Elementary School tale.

Why didn't the S.S. (Hah, funny how familiar that looks to Hitler's army) whisk Bush away?

Simple......The dog did not bark.

...unless of course your last name is Kennedy. :(

For 9/11, the only thing I can imagine is that they had the same stand-down orders as the military and the Pentagon's defense systems, or they were aware that there was no threat to Shrub. I lean towards the latter.

That's the likely scenario -- mission was to keep president from knowing too much too soon or attempting to assert command during the mission critical 815am -930am window.

The secret service employed a tactical device to stun the president -- they made him read along to "My Pet Goat" --- and in the ensuing delay (hey reading is HARD) ....

other interpretation is that we are missing some big 9/11 pieces -- SOMETHING was supposed to happen, it didnt, and the 9/11 plan went way off script.. the secret service basically froze while awaiting plan B orders. i dunno.

at the least, if you subscribe to the OFFICIAL THEORY -- there should have been amassive reprimand or firing of the president's security detail afte r9/11.

As soon as first plane hit, 846, there were 3 aircraft lost to radio. the secret service either failed (incompetence) in which case heads should roll, OR -- they had different orders, and in fact DID their jobs as told.

history -- what happened to JFK's security detail and limo driver after assassination? Investigated, indicted, fired, demoted -- or exonerated? Esp the driver.....

Is it normal for the Secret Service to place a battery of stinger missiles on the roof of the hotel where the President is staying?

"At the Colony, the Secret Service was getting everything secured for when the president arrived on Sept. 10. That included snipers and surface-to-air missiles on the roof and the Coast Guard patrolling just offshore" Sarasota Herald Tribune 9/10/22

Or maybe they knew something was coming

Yeah perfect analogy.

Heres one thing though.

there are reports that there might be a terrorist threat to Air Force One. It could have been the reason there was a delay getting the President into the air.
I would imagine he would have been told that possibilty though and not just "mr.president America is under attack".

I think it needs confirming that someone has talked about a terrorist threat to AF-1 though. ill post if I find it.

"They also made it clear they wanted to get us up quickly, and they wanted to get us to a high altitude, because there had been a specific threat made to Air Force One. ... A declaration that Air Force One was a target, and said in a way that they called it credible. ... So they wanted to get us up quickly. They also wanted to get us up with fighter air cover."
-- White House senior counselor Karl Rove, quoted by Nicholas Lemann in the Sept. 28 New Yorker.

QUOTE
"We have specific and credible information that the White House and Air Force One were also intended targets of these attacks."
-- White House spokesman Ari Fleischer, Sept. 12 briefing.

QUOTE
Vice President Cheney : "The president was on Air Force One. We received a threat to Air Force One -- came through the Secret Service ..."

Tim Russert : "A credible threat to Air Force One. You're convinced of that."

Vice President Cheney : "I'm convinced of that. Now, you know, it may have been phoned in by a crank, but in the midst of what was going on, there was no way to know that. I think it was a credible threat, enough for the Secret Service to bring it to me."
-- NBC's Meet the Press, Sept. 16.

QUOTE
"Finally, there is this postscript to the puzzle of how someone presumed to be a terrorist was able to call in a threat against Air Force One using a secret code name for the president's plane. Well, as it turns out, that simply never happened. Sources say White House staffers apparently misunderstood comments made by their security detail."
-- CBS News reporter Jim Stewart on the Sept. 25 CBS Evening News.

QUOTE
"[Administration officials have] been unsuccessful in trying to track down whether there was such a call, though officials still maintain they were told of a telephone threat Sept. 11 and kept Bush away from Washington for hours because of it."
-- Sept. 25 AP report, quoted in the Sept. 27 Washington

Makes me wonder who made the call.

Also makes me wonder why the hell they would put him on the plane if it was a possible and credible threat.

they seem to have tried to deny there was any threat afterwards also. Spin out of control or an attempt to spin that went wrong?

they also had no air support for AF-1 whilst it was up there for a while. this has been both admitted and denied. Im not sure on the official standing of this atm.

They keep handheld SAM missiles on top of the White House at all times. I had a friend in HS who was really interested in how national defense works. He had mentioned that they'd been keeping the SAMs on top of the White House ever since a single engine plane tried to crash into it.

It's probably not much of a stretch to have them wherever the President is visiting as well.
