Title: Semi-formal roleplay?
Description: expressions of interest
Charisma - March 1, 2007 10:22 AM (GMT)
Okay so I'm more used to scenarios, not necessarily DMed, but with a vague plot in mind. Generally I like fantasy settings, so...
Well, who's interested in setting up something of a village? Or maybe something else, I don't really know. I've kind of been pretty obsessed with BJT forums lately, so I'm a little out of ideas for generic fantasy non-GM roleplay...
Anyone else got ideas? Or want to do something semi-formal like this, with something of a plot to work with? I'm on AIM, MSN and Skype if yall want to talk to me that way instead of here...

Double posting but what the hell.
If you're definitely up for it, why don't you post up a character concept in this thread or something. We can start posting properly in another thread.
EDIT:
Awesome guide to Roleplaying and everything
here.

Example? sorry, new to text based rpg
Charisma - March 1, 2007 11:42 AM (GMT)
Not a problem. Character concept is basically what you want the character to be like, and usually includes things like name, age, appearance, race, personality, maybe a bit of history if it matters, any weapons or items of interest they might have. Also their place in the village, if they're part of it, or their place in the world if they're just passing through. So something like the form below...

Name:Calin
Age:26
Gender:male
Race:human (defaults to human)
Appearance:tall, thin, glasses, a large worn black greatcoat over tan and green shirt and pants
Personality: quiet and generally shy
History: grew up in the city, often scaring people in the quiet darkness of the night for fun
Weapons: a coiled piece of black wire and a dagger
Other possessions: a small silver broach tarnished with age
Place In Life: just passing time, waiting. in the mean time, helping out with trapping and hunting.
Miscellaneous character notes:
Charisma - March 1, 2007 12:11 PM (GMT)
Name: 'Auntie' Keziah Yam
Age: 73
Gender: Female
Race: (defaults to human)
Appearance: Old and wrinkly, her faded brown eyes hold a mischievous and sly twinkle. She definitely knows more than she lets on - despite the fact that she lets on an awful lot. Her once-red hair is now white, but she doesn't seem to mind and usually wears it in a bun, from which wisps frequently escape. Skirts, petticoats, a half-apron and rolled-up sleeves are her characteristic style of dress, though oddly enough she never wears shoes.
Personality: Auntie knows everything - or at least, that's what she encourages everyone to think. She's the village gossip, always up for a juicy story, but if you're hungry there's no better place to be than Auntie's kitchen. On the other hand, if she knows one of your secrets she'll keep it tight to her chest and never tell a soul - so long as you're good to Auntie, of course.
History: Auntie grew up in the village, and though she never married and had children of her own, everyone calls her Auntie because she was always willing to look after the kids. Possibly because they never know when to keep their mouths shut.
Weapons: Her tongue and your secrets. And beware her honey buns, they're fiendishly good.
Other possessions: A cookbook handed down through her maternal line. No one's ever seen the recipes inside.
Place In Life: Village Gossip, Babysitter, Free Food (well, almost...if you don't mind giving her a hand, of course)
Miscellaneous character notes: Everyone lives in mortal fear that Auntie really does know everything. She does, of course, but she isn't telling them that.
KitClairvoyance - March 1, 2007 01:51 PM (GMT)
Name: Kristen
Age:22
Gender:Female
Race: Human
Appearance:
Sleek strands of raven hair fall down ontho Kristen's small shoulders. At 5'2", her light build gives the impression of someone who is quick on her feet. A pair of hazel eyes are set deeply, offset somewhat by her thin eyebrows. A series of horizontal slits run down the bridge of her nose, serving no other purpose than for asthetics. A simple attire of old, ragged shirts and dusty skirts serve her well. She has a dislike for footwear, preferring to walk barefooted.
Personality:
An introvert, Kristen keeps to herself most of the time, not that she can speak even if she wanted to. Her disability forces her to be more independant than most, but she won't hesitate to help another. She has a soft heart, especially for animals.
History:
Born a mute, Kristen found it difficult to grow up in a village where the kids used to taunt her. Forced into solitude, she found comfort among the creatures of the forest and often disappears to be among them.
Weapons:
-none-
Other possessions:
A small one-roomed hut on the outskirts of the village. A tiny cloth bag within which what she carries isn't known.
Place In Life:
Simple village-girl.
Miscellaneous character notes:Mute

Name: Joseph
Age: 28
Gender: Male
Race: Human .. mainly
Appearance: Neither tall nor short, more of an average man, tan skin, short black hair with brown eyes that hint that there is something more to this person then whats on the outside. The person in charge of the local Tav, called "Bar" (imagination wasnt one of his strong points), usually seen in his white apron cleaning glasses serving drinks.
Personality:
Quiet guy, he'll listen to your troubles and suggest something if you ask, but usually he'll just stand there smiling gently listening to your woes while you down another drink.
However there is still something more to him .. people cant seem to pick it but some of the locals may have ideas ..
History:
Came into town one day, looking for good clean honest work with nothing more then the clothes on his back. Stayed in a room above the Tavern when it was under the management of Ole' Jim. Helped Ole'Jim around the bar serving customers, cleaning up after customers, throwing customers out, common stuff for the bar. When Ole' Jim was ill. Joe (as Jim would call him) basically took over. Okay, so I've kicked off the thread with a generic intro and placed characters in what appears to be their homeground or at least place they can usually be found. Hopefully yall don't mind where I've put you.
From here, there is no real plan. There is possibly something going to happen, but it's likely to be up to you to figure out what that is. If nothing happens for a while I'll throw something in, but until then...
Rules and suggestions for nice posting styles in the link above, though I'll not be stringent and set standards or minimum lines - though I'd prefer if you kept it at more than one line.
Enjoy :)

Just wondering about technology, magic and all the other fun things. Specifics of whats in and whats out.
Charisma - March 11, 2007 12:58 PM (GMT)
Technology? Uhm, think generic fantasy. Basically, the whole thing is generic fantasy, though we might have some technomancy in the cities. That could be fun.
Basically, if you can provide a viable explanation, it's probably in. But it's essentially middle ages.
Charisma - June 26, 2007 10:56 AM (GMT)
Everyone except Anithis and Auntie just died in the massacre. Congratulations.
coder928 - June 27, 2007 07:15 AM (GMT)
Name: Mage Blyden
Age: 102 or so he keeps saying, probably older.
Gender: Male
Race: Human
Appearance: Sports a full head of white hair just over shoulder length and a full length flowing white beard, dresses in what appears to be wizards robes that have spirals on instead of stars and moons. Through the robes he appears to be about 6 foot 2 inches of medium build
Personality: Slightly mad, but generally friendly unless you pick the flowers in his garden.
History:Been refused entry into the wizards guild 17 time before due to not being able to cast a spell that works the way he wants, hence why he has to call himself a mage, because the title wizard is one reserved for only the members of the wizards guild. Been the winner of the brilliant gardens competition every year for as long as anyone can remember, due to the unusual and rare variety of plants found is hits little garden surrounding his quaint little cottage.
Weapons: Normally an oak staff, or if it has been left at home, some stick picked up in the garden, after all no one faces displacer slugs unarmed.
Other possessions: a random assortment of trinkets that other people would call junk found in various pockets in his robes.
Place In Life: Avid Gardener
Miscellaneous character notes: Keeps applying for the guild of wizards even though they think he's quite mad and don't want him in there ranks. It is suspected that the random assortment of plants in the garden come from various dimensions, however has yet to be determined.

Yays, accepted, now it's a three-person show

Name:
Tristan Fenrir of Moorlin Esq.
Age:
Appears in early 30’s
Gender:
Male
Race:
Human appearance
Appearance:
Once describes to have fantastical beauty. Tristan has collar length dark auburn hair, which he seldom ties back. Stormy blue eyes, sometimes mistaken for steely grey, they can be as reflective as a mirror, or transparent as glass. He is a pale, but not white, medium height and good build.
Tristan generally dresses in all black clothes, and cloak, though occasionally wears blue.
His distinguishing feature is a long pale thin scar running down the left hand side of his face.
Personality:
Tristan is always charming, using a mixture of this golden tongue and his looks, he could talk the birds out of the trees, or kill you with a smile. He is highly intelligent and cunning. You can never be sure what he is thinking or planning, or who exactly he is underneath his smile. He is also utterly ruthless, a hired killer originally, conscience corrupted. There is something that lurks beneath this, undetectable.
History:
Awarded his lands and title, he came into the service of the king three years prior and is now one of the Kings trusted advisors. Not much is known from his past, it is said that he just turned up one day and took a position on the court.
Weapons:
Proficient with most weapons and fighting styles, his previous occupation as an assassin, made it essential. He favours the bow, using a characteristic triple barbed arrow head. But is by far a superior bladesman, his sword Sonnenadell is said to have a magical past.

A silver pendant that he carries but never wears.
Place in Life:
Esquire of Moorlin, currently in the service King Thorin II

Charisma - June 28, 2007 03:10 PM (GMT)
Kimmy - August 6, 2007 01:41 PM (GMT)
Name: Me'air Marse, Also known as Shift
Age: Twenty something, by appearance
Gender: Born Male, though that hardly makes him actually a he. More like a both, it and occasionally an either. He is of two species known for creative viewpoints on genders, if not outright powers related to them.
Race: Born as a result of a union between a Demon and a Fey, he is rather unique..
Appearance:
A tall muscular man, though not imposing. His nails tend to be coloured in dark themes, being slightly too long and quite claw like. His eyes seem to leave small trails in the air, at least to those who can see magic. Still, everybody finds his eyes are harsh to look at, burning darkness and power into your very soul, reading far more than normal. His hair is a deep red that always seems to glow in the light. Many women would kill for his long hair thats left in a long ponytail. His skin is tanned, with no scars.
His colothing is usually a long cloak thathides him in its depth, or something in a brigth blue made of fine silks and with bejeweled daggers at his belts. His clothing is over the top with finery and jewels, showing his obvious successes, though its all in fact glass and silks.
Personality:
A man such as he, who can stand before a king doing a hand stand and expecting the king to obey his every command is not someone who is easily understood. At least thats what one might think. Its more if you simply understood his heritage, the total adoration he held for both his parents and their uniqueness, his desire to follow their lives, his craving for amusement and mirth form the lesser races, his utter confidence in himself and his luck, his complete lack of fear from anyone besides his parents disapproval and the idiotic ability to focus on what he wants, no matter what the situation that is provided before him, then just maybe you might begin to understand his motives.
To those who dont however, they simply see him as a fearless fool who causes trouble at a whim, a total lack of morals and respect for rules, sensibilities, social awareness and almost everything else a society holds dear. And perhaps a good dollop of insanity mixed in, though thats not far from the truth when you think about it..
History:
Wandering the world, he finds amusement in tracking down unusual people and unusual talents within them. He uses his tracking skills to find the worlds rarities and beauties, finding amusement in their company.
Most of his history is shrouded, as he spent time with each of his parents when growing up - His father was hardly one to stop and raise him, but willing to lend some time every so often to ensure his son would grow up with the knowledge of his true capabilities. His mother raised him for a while, but even her love waned as she wandered off with a new husband one day, leaving Me'air to his fate amongst the worlds open cruel surface.
To Me'air, being left behind really didn't worry him after too long. He found he was usually lucky enough to get along out of any scrapes he needed.
Weapons:
His bejeweled daggers are almost useless as anything more than a steak knife, though his claws are quite useful for tearing into flesh though. He relies on his inhuman speed and strength more than any weapon. Any weapon will be deadly in his hands, though poorly made weapons may break under his strength.
His main weapons though come from each of his parents - One gave him luck. His body simply creates it own luck, oozing from every pour as raw magical power. And his father left some another, darker talent. Something noone alive has ever seen..
Other possessions:
Though he never really remembers whats in his pockets, he often carries some baubbles from his exploits and work as a acquirer. He gets by on luck more than coin. Though somewhere in the worlds various banks, his family name carries weight and coin. Though often the banks fall long before he ever withdraws the coin he leaves behind.
Place In Life:
His place is to explore the world as it changes slowly over the edges of time. Its constant fluxations and changes provide Me'air with all the amusement he could ever want. Though as people age around him, he moves on to a new place, a new time, a new life.
Miscellaneous character notes:
I am Me'air Marse, wanderer, entrepreneur and luck bringer extraordinaire to the world! Hire me to do all your needs and I will bring a new brighter power to your life. When I leave, my name will fade slowly into time, only the books of time remembering my deeds and exploits. But for now, you are graced with my presense and wonderous splendour.

Lmao Welcome to the Chronicals of Mereton 1- Life as Usual
Charisma - August 7, 2007 05:25 AM (GMT)
*shrug* you can't do that Lady. Sorry, but true.
The 'personality' bit is a cop-out, but I'm content to wait for it to be figured out using the Bar.
Lady D - August 7, 2007 09:24 AM (GMT)
You can't exactly refuse him either. I mean its not like we are goddesses here to rule and say who can and can not join.
Charisma - August 7, 2007 09:47 AM (GMT)
I can. Not because of modly whatever, but because as threadstarter I get to say in/out, especially after it's already started. I'm not GMing it, but character apps go through me first.
Lady D - August 7, 2007 12:07 PM (GMT)
*pouts* I practically make all the plot decisions. If you want to be obtuse then do so.
Kimmy - August 7, 2007 01:18 PM (GMT)
Ah the joys of power. And the joys of ignoring it.
There is a personality for you. That should explain everything. If it doesn't, then you simply have to work it out on your own, because thats what i intend you to do. I hope thats acceptable, because it is what it is.
Charisma - August 7, 2007 01:44 PM (GMT)
Insanity is very fashionable here :P looks pretty good to me - I understood enough to say join in now ^_^
And Lady, making plot decisions has nothing to do with it.
